Excellent review, thanks! On mine..... first I removed the set screw and blade, then added epoxy to keep anything from wiggling loose. Also added better matches and gear to the kit. The sheath is flimsy for sure, but I took some sheet metal (cut from an old license plate) and made a protective tip reinforcement. On the front side I polished the metal to make a sort of signal mirror, and on the back side I glued a section of sand paper for sharpening or striking matches. Burn some holes with a hot awl or use grommets and you can attach a signal whistle & some more cordage for whatever. Just my 2-cents ✌️
i think these are great as introductory gear.. I mean face it, camping gear is expensive today and when a novice camper can get a knife, hatchet and folding saw that will get them through their overnight camps and introduce them to a new hobby for 35 bucks or whatever then i think thats a great purchase.
Great video! Either UA-cam never sent me a notification or I missed it. I would have watched it before now. I like hearing other people's opinions of this cheap knife. I love the knife for some reason, but can't explain exactly why.
Another guy has a video where after gluing the blade in, he throws it about a dozen times, then he makes a spear out of a straighter stick than you use and he throws the spear, sticking it in a dead tree several times. The blade and point came through with flying colors, so you could abuse it more and it will hold up.
Yeah I've been thinking about doing another video where I do some modifications to it and put it through some worse abuse. Several people have mentioned the jb weld trick now, it seems like a pretty good idea to try out.
The spear function alone makes this worth the $10. Could use this to spear an animal or fish without having to risk losing or damaging your primary (expensive) knife. I would dump the contents out of the handle and fill it with paracord for this purpose. Good review!
eehh I don't think so, could try to re-temper it to get a harder edge, but the steel used is not going to hold up to much no matter what you do. Just need to be willing to re-sharpen it often I'm affraid
Gerber knives are not very usefull compared to mora and joker mid level knives. Bear and sons are china quality assembled here, but mine has crappy temper. Purdy soft. Victorinox swiss are quality. Buck was. Well well. Mora 24/7, vic swiss everyday. Joker every nite! Gerber sits in old truck in tearz! Lol. If I got your hf knife would it sharpen and cut? My moraz are at ready on hip! Lol
Agreed, my moras have never let me down, although I mainly use them for carving, but I have a few of their survival type knives too always within reach
sweet, glad to see it turned into a spear. looks fun. i might try it too. constructive suggestion: try to be mindful of the "uh" and "uhm" and "ah" it's just a habit that takes a bit to break yourself of.
@@mataooutdoors you can try practicing on a daily basis. once you break yourself of the habit, it gets a lot easier. of course it's easy to always fall back on it, especially if you're speaking extemporaneously and thinking of what you're saying. but at least you can get rid of the factor of just pure habit
@@mataooutdoorsthanks, i own some 8-9 inch blades totally fine (just cant carry them in public) i was thinking more the store its from is an American based store and not sure if they deliver to uk?

For $9.99, I think you can get more than $9.99 out of that knife. It could be an ok truck knife, do you want to use your more expensive knife for splitting wood?
You are right, you can get more than 10 bucks out of that knife for sure, but eehhh, Id still rather have one quality knife that I can do more with. But...this knife is for sure not as bad as everyone claims it to be.
When you're poor homeless that's probably the best value you're going to get I have bought many of them use many of them gave many of them away the other stuff you can do to improve on them but for 8 or $10 you can't buy nothing American that'll hold up like that and the more knife for 10 or 12 bucks it's a nice little knife but it won't hold up to what this holds up to once you guys leave it alone and give it a pad on the back every once in a while it's easy to sharpen it's easy to fix
Increase your B Complex vitamin intake for about a week before you go into the woods. IDK why it works but it does. Mosquitos hate it. Also burning old dried used coffee grounds repels them😂
Excellent review, thanks!

Wow those are all great ideas!!
I used two mix JB weld to attach the blade more firmly and that also water proofs that connection! Even stronger than epoxy.
JB weld....drill and pin blade

Yeah after seeing it perform the way it did, its growing on me quickly!
Ha ha, my wallet loved the price! In this case you get a bit more than you pay for, imho.
I'm pretty sure this knife would be my number one pick-- especially if it were the only one on the list.
Makes for a short list.

Doug shoe bushcraft is the channel
I just got one too. Still in packing but plan on drilling thru and using a pin as well as jbweld. For the price it’s a great buy.
Definitely can't beat the price!
Try wraping the handle with Paracord. Adds padding and gives you a length of Paracord.
Take blade off and JB Weld the handle in with set screw
Good idea! I've heard the JB weld trick a few times now, I'm going to have to give that a try. Thanks for the tips!
I wrapped mine with waxed bank line. Or just wear a glove!
The first thing to ask yourself is "how much is my life worth to me"? If your answer is $8, this one is for you.
lol well said!
0pinel blades are thin slicers 7 or 8 . 9 size is tougher. Never had a 12. Maybe a tougher blade.
Agreed
I wanted to seesaw. Hmm?
I showed some sawing in it no? Its more for cutting notches

Thank you! Yeah I was completely surprised it actually held up as a spear.
can you show us a super easy rawhide sheat making for this?
Yes I can do that for sure, it will give me an excuse to do some leather work.
Is it worth re tempering to see if

Oh Im so aware of it, its drives my nuts, I try to edit out as much as I can, but I will try to be more mindful of it as well when filming.

Real 550 paracord has 7 inner strands.
You are correct, sorry if I misspoke. All I had at the time was the 5 strand.
When I got mine you could shave with it, I guess it goes back to quality controll.
Yeah I bet if I would have dug through, I may have found one a little better? Who knows.
can i purchase this online in the uk?
HHmmmm I'm not too sure. I would assume so, but not sure the knife laws in the UK.

It's a joke of a knife and I would not depend on it
I agree
You should not have to do anything
Very true, for a high end knife I wouldn't expect to have to do anything
