I have never heard this man's voice yet I have seen him a billion times and have known his personality for years.
It's weird that referees are not allowed to talk and perhaps, if they were allowed to explain their decisions or admit mistakes, we might get on better with them, since their lack of a voice dehumanises them and makes them seem like robots.

@@nronan3 I can't obviously remember every game he's reffed, but the last 2 years it's been embarassing for him. In an end-to-end match you can clearly see he can't keep up with the match and will blow for fouls the second a player goes down, and he's usually 30-40 yards away if that.
As an avid football watcher, I've never seen a ref so obvously bad at his job than Jon Moss and I'm incredibly happy he's retired.

Agreed, i do however think at times it would help the game if we had an understanding or an explanation of some decisions, might even make the game a better product with that sort of transparency. Perhaps we even see less diving and more balanced game if refs explain the thinking behind decisions. Same goes for VAR refs.
@@thesubstitutes agree 100% it doesn't have to be all through the match. Just if a free kick is given for example and the ref is talking to the captains or senior player who is questioning the decision. They can say let's listen in and see what the ref is saying.

Honestly this makes the ref more likeable. Should do this more and also should allow them to be interviewed about their decisions as it can put it into perspective to how they see it.

He actually acted more down to earth than I thought he would😂 what a legend. You won’t get this with Jon Moss or Atkinson. He’s a character on the pitch, unless so many others. And that’s what we need, besides doing his job ofc.
The FA are always scared of this stuff but I think people would be more understanding of decisions if refs were given the opportunity to explain decisions and things.

Its good to see the human side of refs. I feel like a lot of people disregard how hard it must be to be a ref witgh tens of tousands of people disagreeing with your decisions regardless of whether or not you are making the right call,
Mike seems like a great guy.
Regardless of what you think about the job he does, hearing a referee talk this open and honestly and show actual personality about the experience of his position is just great to see.
Shocked to see a villa fan like yourself have a nice word about this clown. He’s done us over proper over the years especially against Man U, he’s only shown his face because he loves the attention! Every other Ref keep their dignity and retiree into the shadows. I bet if you ask him about his f*@k ups on camera he wouldn’t be so eager. I was in stitches seeing the first pic of him as a caddy! I don't think any PL ref has stuck out to me as much as Mike Dean. Absolute legend and hearing him talk about "getting wrapped up in the football" shows that he was always in it for the right reasons.
Would love to see more of this. Referees are definitely thought of as people who just get let out on a weekend so it's great to know the bloke behind the whistle
I saw Mike at a Refs night in Cheltenham some years back You were absolutely superb Mike I loved it and so did my fellow refs from Bristol. Thanks for everything Mike and I wish you a wonderful retirement

Hes made mistakes but so have most refs. But one thing most refs haven’t done is been a real character on the pitch and bring some entertainment. When hes gone and people notice theres no one like him around he will be missed for sure.

He said it himself in the video, he has gotten caught up in the moment and likes to entertain during football matches. He’s not a referee that you do not notice during the match
