  • TRAINS Magazine chartered ex-C&O #1309 for a weekend of photos along the entire length of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad during the last weekend of February 2022. #1309 was of the last Baldwin built steamers for the American market. It went thru a rather public rebuild project that, despite delays, offsets and naysayers, was completed. It has been pulling for the WMSR since December 2021. Day 1 of the charter started overcast & gloomy, then after a snow flurry at Helmstetter's Curve, it brightened up. We did runbys and static shots from sunup to sundown, followed by night shots at the depot in Cumberland. Much of the right-of-way required a lot of brush cutting, which was tackled with many volunteers leading up to the event, after years of non-charter activity. Of the hour or so video I shot, these are some highlights. As is usually the case with large groups in photo charters, there is a lot of camera chatter in the audio....I see why pure video shooters like to get far & away from the crowd.
