  • I big thanks to Ian (Aka ‪@Hagar2670‬ ) for giving me the heads up on the longer suspension Shackle on the lift axle. it didn't lift as much as I'd like it to so I prototyped 4 shorter shackles out of plasticard to see if having the same length shackles on the steer axle and lift axle would improve things. Equal length suspension shackles seem to be the key to the lift axle working properly....

    Thanks for that Teri. It was as I suspected then. I would think put the shackles back the way Tamiya had them; maintain the downward pressure on the main steering axel and get the optimum lift. Personally I am considering the full 8X8 and drop the lift axle altogether.

    Hi we have also worked out that with the axle bn plastic they flex we changed it to normal metal steerin axle on them longer shakules is the second dimple the same as shorter shakules just thout

      I really doubt that the lift axle would flex because you would have to put an unrealistic amount of weight on it for it to do that.

    And can a second servo be aded to the chassis to steer lift axle seperately? Thanks

    • @TeriWilde
      @TeriWilde  4 місяці тому

      I've fitted a shifter servo to the transmission, next video, so I would say its possible to have the lift axle steered by the servo on the side and the stock shift servo used to steer the front axle..., but you'd need some fancy radio settings to get the steering angles right and a Mix to turn off the lift axle steering when lifted.... it's a cracking idea though.

    It seems that you have the wrong shackles fitted to the wrong steering axles The longer shackle goes on the front steering axle and the short shackle is fitted to the tag/lift axle as per build manual. You have mixed up you ma45 and ma46 shacles and whwere they were mean't to be fitted thats why you are having the problem with the lift axle all you need to do is swap shackles.

    • @TeriWilde
      @TeriWilde  4 місяці тому +1

      As stated, I fitted the long shackle to the front axle but the lift axle didn't touch the ground with the short shackle on it. I tried swapping them around, but then the longer shackle on the lift axle didn't lift the axle up more than 1.6mm... I fitted equal length short shackles, and it's far better.

      What I have always have had to do is bend leaf springs to suit every single axle on the tamiya kits as everyone needs to be adjusted to suit the build.
      If you bend the front leaf spring down and tag axle up just a few mm you will get it to behave just as you want.

      @rctrucksni7252 u don't like bending things to fit, I've never had to bend the springs in the past, and I'm not about to start. Equal length shackles is, IMO, the correct way, and the chassis sit perfectly level.
