And just like that blender becomes that much more powerful. This one is a game changer and it's only going to get better
my whole day has changed as a result of this video, and I expect future days as well
Hell yeah
It's so amazing, now I can animate (I was too lazy to draw frame by frame before, but this makes it so much easier)
And all of that is for free
This....is phenomenal. The amount of motion graphics we’re going to see come out of this is bound to be amazing.
how do you think it could be used ?
@@jabir5768 It's used in most modern 2d animation. I love that blender is just going ahead and taking on another industry completely, there are only a few core features that I miss from other art programs (mainly a streamlined brush and color settings ui) before I would feel comfortable switching entirely to blender for that, it's crazy how fast it's evolving.
@@truemetro181 true, I love blender so much for that
I did not make the interpolation. Could someone please help me? Step by step
@@truemetro181 Only cacani has this interpolation system in, and it costs several hundreds of dollars every year
No way. Holy shit this is the best gease pencil update yet
are you sure? :) yesterday lineart branch was merged into master, I have done extensive testing and it's becoming insanely stable, especially compared to freestyle. so yes, now we get real time viewport lineart with all the modifiers
@@Blenderislove It is not really time actually...when creating lines from a simple cube with 20,000 faces.
@@atticuslv1399 sure it does slow down with complex scenes. nevertheless you can now preview final work in viewport .that was not possible before.
also give it a little time, it will improve. for now it is single threaded. will improve in future :)
Blender is the single greatest piece of open-source software to ever bless humanity. Thank you to the community for making an already amazing program even better🙏
WHATTTTT this is incredible??!?!! My mind is blown. All this in a FREE and open-source tool. We really don't deserve Blender 😭
Blender is literally the best piece of software I've ever used
agreed
This makes animation 50% easier omg u guys are great
I've never been able to figure GP out, but glad others enjoy the tool.
Literally was the only thing keeping me from using grease pencil exclusively. So awesome!!!!
ok that's cool, I might need a slower explained tutorial on that one.
same here
An Ian Hubert tutorial at 20% speed or an Andrew Price tutorial at 500% speed would be perfect!
There is not much to make tutorial with, "Interpolate" tool transforms stroke from one keyframe to another, kinda like shapekeys do for meshes
1. Select keyframes you want your strokes to interpolate between
2. Select "1" then select "2"
3. When you drag "1" with interpolate tool, the "1" will slowly transform into the "2". It's good to add some dynamic between frames to smooth out the movement.
Automatic interpolate transforms the stroke automatically with chosen curve ease, kinda like using curves for mesh movement.
Thank you so much for your generosity .
grease pencil is getting better and better!
God! I love blender so much, it has been the perfect software for me. What i can donate is so little, but if any of my projects take off, i hope to be able to donate a lot more than what i can.
This will define animators before and after workflow. Impressive!
Would be even better if you make the tool not destructive, maybe like a modifier or something that doesn't generate in between keyframes, that way if you need to tweak something you don't have to delete all those keyframes and start all over again
Like AFX does, I agree. It seems like it's getting closer to that though so maybe it's just a matter of time.
That's a great idea. And you could then apply the modifier if you do need the tween frames
We cannot do that. Internally the depsgraph evaluation is by frame, so if we evaluate all frames at once the FPS will be very bad.
@@antonioya Awww that would have been the ground breaking feature to win over majority of motion designers. I still commend the progress grease pencil has made thanks for your hard work and the rest of the grease pencil team. I look forward for future updates. Cheers!
@@antonioya Might as well solute this issue with some AI-based interpolation, but that's just me.
I feel like I'm going to cry. This tool blew me away the first time I used it, I can't wait to try out all of this. Thank you so much for all the work you all have been putting in to Grease Pencil!
I've said this for a few years now:
Grease Pencil will be Blender's "turn--to" feature to the world of animation and design.
This is basically automating the same interpolation process used in traditional and "tradigital" animation, but with the added benefit of a completely non-destructive, completely-modifiable workflow that even can be integrated with 3D.
Yup, I think so too!
CACANi: I'm the best tool for in between animators
Blender 2.93: Hold my beer
aah finally found what i need. take me couple of hours to know this difference between the former version
This will be an incredibly helpful tool for Grease Pencil 2.5D head rigs.
My favorite tool in blender is now even better.
Finally, a hands-on "autotween". I have no idea if it'll be able to help with the hard (fun) stuff, I'll have to just see what it can do... but I can already see this is, at the very least, going to save my hand from hours of tedious busy work.
I think this is going to be really big this will be for future animation, it's like people haven't realized it yet...
This looks way better than what Adobe Flash or Animate can do.
This changes EVERYTHING
Thank you so much for what will hopefully get studios to try something besides Toon Boom products soon. Thrilled at development!
grease pencil needs a way to make sharp edges, preferably a fill brush that works like the regular flash brush: you make a brush stroke and it generates fill geometry that you can trim later on
Wow, this “only selected” option will save some time, now I don’t need to remeber witch strokes I made first or try to manually get the shape with the sculpt mode. That’s pretty epic
saving half an hour into a minute, amazing!
Oh wow! How very cool! This really makes tweening as simple as possible
I just wanted to say that the background music made it even better :]
Better and better.
A similair technique was used in Disney's Paperman. Amazing how it's now free for all to use.
Yes, I inspired on that when I did this tool. Initially I did as add-on, but later I converted to C.
@@antonioya Wow that's amazing!
Awesome! I can’t wait to test out that stroke selection!
0:34 wow, looking sooo much like those motion graphics videos.
I'm not drooling... it's just the rain!
I've seen poor interpolation where the fold of the thumb turns into the fingernail and vise versa. That was the problem with interpolation with Flash. We shall see if Blender ends up giving the same kind of mess or improve upon it.
I thought you can interpolate per stroke. That shouldn't happen if they're selected individually
@@gentlebear9936 Yeah, that might help but I can still see where 2 becomes 3 type scenario the middle frame clumps into a mess of points if you have a more complex drawing.
it is like shape tween
You may not know this: you’re saving my life 😂😂😂❤️
THAT'S INSANE. HOW AM I MISSING OUT ON THIS???
this is incredible, and here I thought animator actaully sit there for hours upon hours working individual frames : P
The biggest reason for switching to the computer was a much faster workflow. Instead of redrawing it frame by frame you can also simply copy and paste your old frame and edit that. There are even filters that make it look like it was redrawn for an olschool feel.
They used to, it was actually a job, the inbetweener. Although it probably still is in higher end productions.
you still have to do that for more complex movements like head turns and walking animations
@@giggling_stars Head turn and walk cycles are not advanced, they are the basics...
@@mikysb1434 i didnt call them advanced i called them complex. You still need to know how to make it look consistent, which generated inbetweens struggle to do.
I have seen such interpolations in Toon Boom Harmony 😁 long live Blender.
I love blender :D
Keep it up, devs!
I love you blender team! I really do! You guys are the best period! This is what ive been dreaming about!
This is awesome.
The only thing which needs some work on is the mult falloff editing.
Like when im using the mult falloff in edit mode i have to select all the strokes and i cant see the stroke that ive selected.
I just woke up... my brain isn't functioning as fast. It took me a second to realize what "interpolation" mean and when it hit me... whoa... what... what? Am I still sleep?
Blender is the best ! =)
Now Toon Boom Harmony needs this sort of thing.
I used Toon Boom, and I'm pretty sure they have (In fact, it's one of my to-go tools), too bad it's kinda lame and not good enough.
Woowww fall in love with Blender 🥰 With the current version of Blender 2.92 the interpolation option works only if drawing the same order and the same directions to the canvas. Otherwise, if I drawing randomly with any basic shape, the interpolation calculation massed up and the translation is not correct. It can be very hard to remember what I was done with the earlier keyframe in a complex and busy animation drawing. Will there be an improvement for that? Chears!
What you said is what is featured on cacani (used by all major anime studios in Japan). I need to know if grease pencil shows stroke order...
Pro in blender!
Suddenly you have Sakuga in just a few clics!
Blender is taking our jerbs!!!
but shift + R tho...
awesome update!
Second life of Flash)
This is wonderful
I love blender ♥
👌🏼blender3D the Best 🐒
More POWER!!!!!!!!
I tried this and it's cool but I think we need to be able to interpolate between specific sections of strokes. That would make it much more usable in various situations. It's currently only possible to interpolate from one whole stroke to another.
@@bWWd0 but it's a pain to have to consider stroke order while you're drawing...
Thing is, Cacani has been around for a decade and does exactly this: showing you the stroke between keys and how you drew it so it can interpolate correctly. I was thinking of trying grease pencil but if it doesn't function like cacani it isn't worth switching just yet...
that's just crazy !
Blender is Coming
Not sure why you can't just switch from constant to linear or bezier in the keyframes menu to make this happen. That's how the 3d modeler accomplishes it. I'm only curious because I can't make a stick figure slide across the screen but I fully understand geometry nodes. Any thoughts? Maybe it's what you're doing at 32 seconds. What are you sliding left and right between the changing numbers. It's not keyframes. This isn't very clear.
This is 🔥
WOOW that's crazy!!!
I met the tool with Cacani but now it's free :D
Exactly, cacani was the only software able to do this, and it was based on this thing, now we have it in blender FOR FREE
Wow wow wooow! Magic! thanks a lot!
Mind blown
The legend
I like the music 🌚🎵
Great feature and stuff. But I hope one day they focus again in improving 3d rigging/skinning/animation which atm seems quite unintuitive. Some of those features haven't been touched for a while imo. :D
Oh god I love this!!!
Insane!
Amazing
So blender are you releasing 2.93? If yes when? I can't stop myself.
There's still a few months left for the stable release of 2.93 ... But you can always download the alpha version to experiment with these new features
@@ehsancharolia3297 Thank you
This good version is a shame that it does not have support for windows 7, although you want to be able to open it on windows 7 using a dll in the compressed folder, this interpolation was great, the accuracy is a little bad but as it is still in development and it is likely to improve even more. I think the best thing to improve the accuracy of the lines would be if instead of having lines with multiple vertices, there were some main vertices and the lines would do as in the Multiresolution modifier, so when the blender processes the lines, only the main lines would be the rest would be the result of the subdivision, and the interpolation would be more accurate. When drawing the lines that I am not used to drawing even the line or curve, I do it directly in Edit Mode, I use the same shortcuts that I use in 3D mode, it seems that in this section the selection is more difficult to select the vertices when subdivide the 2d object.
yay interpolation fun
Great... 🙏
great job
Effing amazing
Too much power😍😍
Too powerful
This is so cool! Wish I could draw tho...
How about the amount of nodes. Doesn't they have to be the same quantity in the initial line as well as the final line? I mean, don't they have to be the same nodes so the interpolation can work?
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!
Please add an easier way to make outlined text material for text objects.
I quite Flash Animate for good, serisously!
Holy SHIT friends
please do a more in-depth tutorial on this
Yay! : D
Hi there i am a fan and i love animate at blender! Also i am working on modes! And more!!!!!
Dayum
*nervous adobe noises*
I don't like that you gotta click a button to generate the sequence when it should just fill in the in-between frames by default. Imagine if you had to click a button to tween when animating armature bones, that would get really old really fast.
Does this mean that all other Grease Pencil animations I've seen so far have been created without key frame interpolation?
quick mafs
I keep getting an error about not being able to find valid keyframes, even though I have frames keyed and they are a Keyframe type (now break downs)
This line-by-line interpolation seems to be good, the problem is that I am unable to enter the program because of 2 annoying errors that I cannot solve, the program does not even open.
Holy shit
HALLELUJA
DAMNNN
What can be done about the 1 morphing in 2 and 2 morphing to 1 please?
I have the same concern. Need some A.I. to solve this.
They were demonstrating that it works by selection order. So you'd just select both 1s in order before interpolating instead of the 2 and then the 1.
