With all of the issues the Philadelphia Eagles had seemingly ran into down the final stretch of the regular season, some were skeptical if we’d see the same dominant team we had all year led by Nick Siranni in the 2023 NFL Playoffs. Well, after just one game in the playoff divisional round vs the New York Giants, and while now waiting for the San Francisco 49ers, Jalen Hurts & this squad look more dominant than ever, and it might not be due to what you expected.
Despite Jalen Hurts shoulder injury potentially limiting him to some of his full abilities in their playoff game vs the NY Giants, the Eagles offense still clearly operated as one of the best in all of football. Because aside from Jalen Hurts playing perfectly almost all game, big names like AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell, etc. all continually played their part to remind everyone how insane this team is when they have almost all of their pieces in place.
And then even in terms of the Eagles defense, they seem to be hitting their best stride of the year. And with Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, & Haason Reddick locking down the front and James Bradberry, CJ Gardner-Johnson & Darius Slay controlling the pass attack, this side of the ball is bringing more to the table for Philly than most give them credit for. But will it be enough to make a Super Bowl appearance?

Weathers going to be GREAT and the fans just feed this physical type of team and all the Niners have to do is take out Hurts, right? I believe that’s what this #1 defense does, they aggressively neutralize their opponents main threat in the first half, then hammered them in the second.

@@noza64 easier now than before his injury. Nobody’s really gotten physical with him since, so yeah the number 1 defense in the league is the perfect squad to check if that socket is still compromised. Hurts is irreplaceable, for the Niners it’s just next man up!
If we dominate on the ground we need to stick with it. Hurts can go off in the pass or on the ground but when our ground game is dominant we flat out control the game on both sides of the ball.
Facts
( I wish I had a PC instead of this cell) People were arguing about Hurt's passing yards/att. The simple fact is that those were "game management" numbers, because they had over 275 rushing yards, positive time management the way the Giants played back in the day. Rushing the ball takes time off the clock, whereas incomplete passes gives the opponents free timeouts. ( how many times have you seen that: last year's Bills/Chiefs divisional game)

I just can't help but question how a QB with passing statistics as mediocre as Hurts' are this season could possibly be in the MVP discussion. There were like four or five games this season in which he didn't throw a single passing TD, and they relied primarily on their RUNNING GAME to win.. Does that strike you as the criteria of an MVP QB?
I not going to minimize the fact that he has HELPED lead his team to the Super Bowl, but they're not there as a primary result of his QB play. And because of that, there's no way he should be in the MVP (Most VALUABLE Player) discussion..

That’s 💯!! The 9ers had a fought team and were use to pushing people around . That stopped when they came to Philly and they started getting pushed around . The Eagles bullied them from the first snap and they didn’t know how to handle it . That’s why we seen that frustration in them ! That’s why they were getting so many penalties in a row ! What I appreciate about the Eagles is when they sacked the quarterback it slows them down from scoring and when we passed the ball early and then run in the second half we usually win 99% of the time

The coach has to have the coconuts to run it (Run pass Run). But if you don't have a good Oline, a QB who is a good decision maker and can hurt you running. Its not gonna work. Its like the Run and Shoot offense. Only Warren Moon Houston Oilers made it work. The Eagles Jalen Hurts maybe the only one to make it work this well in the NFL.

The "usage" doesn't paint the full picture of what makes Jalen Hurts so good. There is no accurate stat to show Jalen Hurts making the right reads in a read option offense other than looking at team rushing yards. They had 5 games this year with 200+ rushing yards. Like no other "running" QB in the NFL Jalen is able to read coverages, read edge rushers and make the right protection adjustment switch to a different play AND make reads on how those players react once the ball is snapped. The dude's football IQ is unreal. Now add in the extra dimension of his throwing ability and the Eagles offense is nearly unstoppable.
I agree. I freaking hate stat watchers who only look at his passing yards and undermine all the other things he’s done. His running ability makes the offense 3 dimensional and confuses defenses. The Eagles offense itself is built around his ability to run the ball, but he also makes great decisions as well. Not just in reading edge rushers and the defense, but in passing as well. He has great football IQ and he’s also Top 5 in the league in QBR. Of course you need a good O-Line to pull the Run Pass Run Option off but you also need a good decision maker who can make the right reads and decisions to get the most yards off each play.
Haason Reddick Vs. Mike McGlinchey is a huge mismatch. If the niners don't chip or use a TE on his side it will be a long day for Purdy. His numbers are just as good as Bosa's.
9ers will most likely have to use Kittle as a backup blocker which will be interesting

I think we're good enough to win it all right now. When you shut down the run ( which no one has ) we pass, when the receivers are covered we run or let the screen develop, or throw out of the backfield. And if that's not enough, if Jalen doesn't have anything he breaks a run for a few yards or a first down.

When J. Hurts was allowed to finish the game, I have to question the severity of his shoulder injury. How much does his so-called injury impact the point spread? San Francisco is a very good team, but, +2.5 points may not be enough, then again Ref's have been known to make some weird calls.

We call it the Run Pass Run option since Jalen can take off as a third option. The Eagles have so many weapons, it's hard for a defense to be ready for everything. And Jalen has become great at finding the best option to go with most times. That's the key and why he should be MVP.

Dan Marino was a great thrower and has no rings. Trent Dilfer was serviceable at best and won a SB because he had a great TEAM. No QB wins by himself. Basically the eagles are a great coached team
It seems obvious to do, and sounds easy to do, but I guess it's not because other than that every team would do it.
What is "it"? Have a really good offensive line that is able to make paths for a run, and also hold back to give time for a pass, forcing the other teams defense to cover both. This allows one to move the ball what ever is easiest each and every play. Do this, and get off to a early lead.
Then have a really good defensive line where you can rush just the 4 guys almost exclusively and still get pressure/sacks, and then use all the extra guys not rushing to quarterback to play man and cover the pass really well. This is why getting off to a early lead early is important, it forces to other team to have to pass or they will simply run out of time. Since your covering the run so well by rushing only 4 guys and still getting a lot of sacks/pressure then you are basically guaranteed a win!

@@TheTsar69 yeah an unmentioned part of this is that those 150 pass yards were pretty much all in the first half, and then once it was clearly a blowout they just reverted to the run game and clock chewing drives. If the fans had been closer I think we would have seen a lot more passing from Hurts

How do you stop a multi-option offense that includes the QB? Both the Eagles and Chiefs have QBs that put more pressure on the defense. The difference this year is that Mahomes is injured.

A complete team is hard to beat. Defense like Reddick Hargraves Sweat make it a nightmare for the other team. Offense with Hurt Brown and Smith make it Arial and the run game with Saunders Scott Grewall make it a third element. Not too many teams have that much potential. Mahommes will be doing his homework for sure otherwise it will not be a great game.

I once played for the Eagles in Pop Warner as a gunner on kickoffs. My Coach thought so highly of my skill he limited me to two plays a game. LOAD MANAGEMENT.
