Yokosuka Naval Base tour by car 1987

- My parents took this video in December of 1987 while we were stationed in Yokosuka. It is a drive by car around Yokosuka Naval Base showing quite a bit of the base and how things were in 1987.
The ship referenced in the video is the cruiser USS Reeves CG-24. My Dad was the CO from 85-87. Good times. Hope you enjoy.

This is so great. I lived in Yokosuka from 1984 until 1989. My dad actually took command of the USS Reeves after yours in 1987! Thank you so much for posting this.

Oh yeah I lived from Yokosuka when I was born 2010 to 2014 and moved to the states with my dad and my mom and brother
My dad was a cook and Carried supplies around the carrier uss kitty hawk
loved that base, there on reeves 86-91, under your command and Capt Center. OS2 Damron OI Division Force track coordinator and CIC wWatch Supervisor. Came back to pearl With Reeves. renlisted then came back to Yoko and served onboard USS Thach FFG-43 91 to 95 OS1 Damron OI division CIC watch Supervisor then Watch Officer. You were a good captian enjoyed serving under you Captian and Captian Center.
Man......this was probably filmed on a weekend because the High School parking lot was empty or it was probably on a holiday or winter break. I was a sophomore back in 1987 YO-HI. This brings sweet memories. It brought back the good old days. I used to cruise the base myself back then from the hospital, McDonalds, Bowling Alley was not shown here, Benny Decker theater, Thew Gym, the field, the Towers, housings, The Exchange, MWR, Chase Manhattan bank, chapel, youth center, package store, gas station, A33 where I worked, and more.......! Great memories.
I was there served under you and b4 that met you when you were on PEB team. Thanks for posting these videos. 4 years on the Reeves. Best ship I ever served on.

Capt Center was a fantastic overall person. He loved his crew and treated us with respect.

Funny how I all of a sudden decided to Google video USS Reeves and came across your video. I served under Captain Chappell. I was onboard during our port visit to Quindao, China. It was my first command. I was 21 years old. Thanks for the video.

Thank you for sharing. I was stationed there aboard the USS Midway from 1989-1991. Brought her home to the mainland for decommissioning and now she is a museum. Feels like a distant memory now.

Thanks for posting this video it brings back the old memories when I was stationed there back in 1985-88 on the USS Midway, "B" division & our CO was ADM Mixson.. I remember the old barracks "B", Bldg 1492, The "A" Club, The Locker Club, NEX, McDonald's, and right across the street from the front gate "the famous Honey Bee's restaurant".. 7th Fleet for Life,,,The Blue Ridge, Kirk, Knox, Oldendorf, Cochrane, Reeves, and of course- the USS Gaffey..
I was stationed on Reeves from December of 1986 to September 1989. Served under both Captains Chappell and Center. Great respect for both. Spent a total of 10 years on Yokosuka Naval Base and this video brought back some great memories. Thank you for posting it and all the others.
Thanks for posting this. We were there from June 83 - June 88 when my dad was on the Midway and then the Towers.
I was there from 80 to 83 my dad retired from the navy and that was the last place we were stationed before coming back to the states. I remember he worked out of an office called MOTU-7. Great memories!
My dad was on the Frances Hammond in the mid to late 70s, I spent a lot of time on that base, brings back so many memories.
1986-88 lived off base (Kamoi-cho), 1988-1991 lived on base (19 First St and 62 Jones)
I wish we could live there longer but my husband didn't want to get another sea duty.
I visited my mom in a retirement home every year from 2010-2014. I miss Yokosuka. :'(

Cant believe the Benny Decker has been there since ‘87! Those lines use to be packed for the latest cool movies like Harry Potter lol wonderful bliss times as a child. 2000-2006

Great Base!
I did 4 great years there (86-90) on Reeves, before that 3 interesting years on Parsons (77-80) and finally CDS15 (93-96) lots of great memories.
Two years after I left the USS Midway, which was stationed out of Yokosuka.
I was there from Aug 2015 to Aug 2018. Surprising how much of the base is still the same.
My dad was on the Kitty Hawk here. Miss every minute of it

I was there onboard USS Lassen DDG-82 from 2013-2015, and it looks almost exactly the same except for some updated signs and stuff like that!
