Thanks for the video... I messed this up because I fertilized through bottom watering, but I let it soak for too long. Letting seedlings soak in regular water for 90 mins seems to be fine. But they need to come out of the weak fertilizer solution after only 30 min. Otherwise the salts in the bottom watering "bath" will disproportionately affect the seedling.
Fortunately only the lower leaves were affected, and those will be pruned in any event for deep planting.

Hi Gary, I’ve been gratefully watching your videos for years.
Unfortunately I lost everything in the 2018 campfire including my laptop that had all the notes taken from your videos. I’m starting over finally with my seed starts under my lights. I’ve been watching your newest videos with some confusion on fertilizing, cinnamon & hydrogen peroxide uses. I’ve watched your separate videos but my question is do I use them all together at once, separately, and how often? I sure hope you get a chance to chime in. Thank you Gary.

Oh no. Fertilizing is on its on and mixed in water. Cinnamon I dont use much anymore as I found boiling water kills fungus and fungus gnats to start and letting the surface of the mix dry goes a long way. If issues come up I use h202 when I see the problem.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN man, well attempt number 1 did not go as well as I would have hoped.
I got 4 Tomato seedlings out of 24 seeds and 5 pepper seedlings out of 36 seeds.
Basically I just assumed my heat mat would be ok to just plug in and leave, because it is specifically for seeds. Turns out, it heats up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. So 90% of my seeds died.
But, lesson learned. Thermostat ordered and new seeds picked up.
Time to try again, and try my best to keep the little surviving seedlings alive. They are fighters so I'm hoping they will live.

I was going to ask the same thing about Miracle Grow seed starting mix, but he's not answering any of the questions here. For some reason, Home Depot and Lowe's are carrying only Miracle Grow soils now. I guess they made them an offer so good they couldn't refuse, if they took out all other brands except theirs. Don't know how much fertilizer they put in and how long it lasts. In any case, last year I grew starts indoors and never fertilized them and they seemed to turn out fine.

That is fine to use. It gives a good boost. Maybe less water-soluble will be needed but if you go slow and low, nothing bad will happen.

In years past you said to use spent coffee grounds as a fertilizer. I just read an article from Oregon State University…it was so confusing. In the beginning it said (Coffee grounds are about 2% nitrogen by volume.) and then further down it said Coffee grounds are not a nitrogen fertilizer. In a germination test at the GrassRoots Garden in Eugene, OR, coffee grounds were mixed with potting soil at a ratio of 25% by volume. Lettuce seeds showed poor rates of germination and stunted growth compared to lettuce seeds planted in potting mix without coffee grounds. I feel frustrated & or dense! 🤷🏻‍♀️😩 Can you help explain this please! Also do you recommend fertilizing onion seeds that are from seeds…mine are about 10days old

Well 25% is too much and the decomposing of the grounds will impact plant growth. It is considered a green, like grass and has to break down. It basically, at 25% , is taking nitrogen from plants to decompose. Lightly fertilize onions 1x with water soluble to start. I find they dont need much. Mid growth again is fine. Just cut coffee grounds down by scattering it on surface or greatly reducing mix in soil. Look up coffee grounds on my channel. Good luck.

Worm tea is really low in NPK. You can pretty much use that weekly.

It varies. Its really about size of plants and roots. The videos examples are pretty accurate. It is when they have been growing many weeks.
