    My wife recently returned to Australia and I immigrated with her, everything you’re saying rings true! Amazing coffee, a great culture for beer, seeing friends, spending time with family and an amazing work/life balance. Top that off with amazing wages and Australia is an absolute winner! While i am super happy to be back with family, I do miss the life I had over there and am still making a new one for myself here (not helped by the two years of lockdowns etc etc). Hi. My Father brought our family to Australia from England in 1964. I was 2. Definitely the best decision he could have made for his children. Australia is a fantastic place to grow up and get educated. The culture teaches you that almost anything is possible. Currently I live mostly in Thailand but return to Australia 🇦🇺 around 4 times a year.

    There are a huge number of Brits and Irish living in Perth. Its well known that there are more British born people in the northern suburbs of Perth (near Joondalup) than anywhere else in Australia. Why? Hot dry summers. Perfect beaches. Large houses. Less congestion. You get to a Perth beach easily within 15 minutes or less, as Perth stretches/sprawls extensively north and south. So you can be 3 suburbs from the beach in Perth in cheap housing, but only 10-15 minutes by car. Near major train route into the city and freeways. Laid back and relaxed and lots of trees and parks. Very well planned road, transport and infrastructure.

    Our family move to Australia in 1981, when I was 4yo. I've made the most of the opportunity and work as a geologist in the iron-ore industry in WA. It's fair to say I earn significantly more than any of my of our cousins and obviously I never would had these opportunities had we stayed in Malaysia. The only thing that is missing is not growing up with relatives, but it's not too expensive to take flights. Weather in Perth is pretty superb for about 7-8mth of the year. Peak hour traffic isn't to bad as well either.

    Nice video. Another good thing here is that there’s so much to explore in Aus, especially Queensland where you can see the Gold Coast, Cairns, Hamilton island, Port Douglas, Airlie Beach, Townsville, Sunshine Coast and the Great Barrier Reef. I’m from Sydney and I went to Gold Coast recently for a trip and it felt like a different country because of the tropical climate up there. I definitely think Gold Coast is a great place for a family vacation as it’s got a pretty skyline and lots of theme parks such as Movieworld & Dreamworld.

    I went the other way, giving up life in the Melbourne suburbs to take the family with small kids to rural Scotland. We went intending just 12 months. Been here 25 years. Here are my observations. 1. At some stage the initial new and exotic becomes old and normal. 2. Despite the best of intentions your friends in the old country move on. 3. Individual things like house size, tax, wages, healthcare etc are not as important as the overall; on balance where are you leading the better life? 4. The easiest migration every is UK AUS but be prepared for the endless, gentle non-aggressive racism (call it banter.) . 5. Be prepared to find new friends and hobbies. 6- the most important - give it a go. We've had horrible experiences, but we've also learned German, lived in Switzerland, learned to sail Yachts in Greece, skii'd in Austria, taken cheap holidays over to Florida, and despite moving the kids around the globe they were just fine and are happy adults. Would not have done any of this without taking a leap into the unknown. Finally - we can always "go home." :)

      yes a lot of Aussies say they go to the UK and get "bantered" about being convicts etc etc, some got so sick of it they say they would never return and hate the place + people.

    • @lennytheleopard
      @lennytheleopard 2 роки тому

      @@robert-brydson-1 Indeed, and yet I remember Aussies (and I was one of them) did the same thing to "poms" "wogs" "packies" and all the others. It's ok as long as it's banter ie friendly and not hatred. For all the anti-Aussie jokes I had to sit through in the UK
      (and heard them all before) not one of them was said to me in spite. UK people on the whole have a genuine affection for Australians. Most of them have relatives there.

    Disclaimer - came from recommendations and i have no issues with people moving here, that being said, study thee town you plan to live in. Be aware that every year we have bad fires and bad floods, and the more houses that get built, the worst the flood gets. Just a month ago, half my town went under water due to the newest houses had changed the path of the flood waters. Plus depending on the town, the more houses, the more stress farmers have on trying to keep all / most of their land.
    Also keep in mind, our towns and cities are not really built for a constant high amount of traffic, take Sydney for example. There are towns running out of room to expand. Yes our country is large, but 90%+ of it is unlivable. I don't live in a city so that could be why my views sound "harsh". Most towns cannot keep up with the growing population and demand for more jobs and more buildings, i've seen so many new houses being built straight into flood zones where that would either make those houses get damaged/destroyed or severely change the path of flood waters, causing harsher floods.
    So yeah, if you plan to live here, study the town and be aware, because most housing developers don't warn you about the floods. Plus, prices are increasing like mad man.

Now I'm suddenly feeling drawn TO Australia. Just not feeling it in NZ and Ive lived here my whole life. I just resonate better with Australian culture and even my Aussie relatives. They're nicer. My partner's job is 25k more for the same job here in NZ. The beaches, forests and mountains are beautiful here and that's all I'm really going to miss. Alan I was born in the 50s here in Aus. I made many wonderful Italian, Greek friends in my teenage years, still friends with an Italian girl and her husband after all these years. Married I had a few Italian, Greek, Macedonian and English neighbours, all friendly funny, welcoming and funny. The English girl was so funny, loved the heat more than the locals. We’d all swap recipes. But I learned ever to joke to an Italian about food lol. Dear Italian lady across the road said she was making pizza for dinner - I said ‘jokingly’ as us Aussies do, “send one over my way” She did, she took me seriously. Oh she was a dear soul. So I mixed quite easily with people from different countries moving here, I still do, with people from other countries coming here now - the diversity of food restaurants is fantastic and I love hearing about their culture, how and why they came here. Some wonderful, some really heroic stories they’ve told me.
