Fortunate enough to have seen him perform live many years ago. Got to meet him afterward and got my album autographed. Great performer and player. Definitely doesn't get the credit he deserves.
He's really one of the greats but was also in a class by himself. Few people of any genre could pull off that level of authenticity and hit those soulful notes like he did. We was a real class act and influential artist.
Words about Little Milton. Brother has a band in St. Louis for years. He is drummer and manages a band. Visiting in a gold Cadillac, 500 c.i.paisley interior, landau top. He changed bad generator upon arrival. An engineer happy to help. So much music. He turned me on to Little Milton. Takeoff. That ship flew years ago. The Blues is alright.
MY QUEEN AND ME OR I WENT TO SEE HIM PERFORMCE IN MEMPHIS AT THE CLUB PARADISE. WE ALWAYS HAD A GOOD TIME WATCHING AND LISTENING TO THOSE GREAT BLUES LEGANDS PERFORMAN.
This song is so big in these parts, thanks to the late Phil Givant and his wonderful radio program that ran for years on KVMR, Nevada City. It was Phil's theme, his opening tune, every time the show came on. I was unaware of any live recordings of Little Milton performing this... Sweeeeet serendipity.....
Robben Ford/ Marcus Miller/David Sanborn/ Omar Hakim on drums. Robben was steeped in the blues, touring with Charlie Musslewhite when he was 18 years old. He has those goods in spades - on top of being a great jazz player.
I played in a band fronting LM on a little 3 day swing through southern Texas. (possibly his last live performances). He and I were talking about this song and I commented that it's almost like a blues anthem. Every band in the world in the world covers it. He said he hadn't made shit off the song. Very few had recorded it. Gary Moore was the only one I could recall.
Agreeing with all the other praise here... what a smoking band! Bass line is off the hook - every blues band plays this groove, including ones I've been in, but who is this bassist? He kills it. Wow.
Yes that is Robben Ford, I believe. "how often do you see a rhythm guitarist in a blues band?" Well, let's see. How about the bands of: B.B.King, Albert King, Albert Collins, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Elmore James..... Is that enough?
In VERY loving memory of Mr. Little Milton Campbell (1933 - 2005 R.I.P. Gone but NOT forgotten).
