- TEENY TINY TANKS!!!
These T-34/85s by GHQ are adorably tiny. They also look rather good and even better once they're painting.
I painted these tanks quickly and I think in a rather simple way, but they still look decent.
What do you think about these micro tanks? Let me know in the comments below.

You can use them for monopoly !
Next time I play monopoly I will! and I will refuse to pay rent because "Fuck you, I'm a tank!"
Herbert Erpaderp you can also destroy your friends house and hotel
You can't put a tank on Boardwalk. It can't handle the weight.
@@HerbertErpaderp so funny
The quality of 6mm miniatures never ceases to amaze me. I've actually painted quit a few 18th century minis for the War of Spanish Succession. They are actually quit easy to paint but do require a different technique.
I didn't now GHQ was still around. I had a bunch of Panzers back in the 1990s. Hmm might have to get some...
More info for the disinterested. [edit: didn't find previous comment. Hope extra links prove helpful.]
_GHQ_ Micro Armour provides the best _eye candy_ for 1/285th -1/300th (6mm) scale. At current prices of $11.95 (USD) per package, on the majority of selections, they are also one of the highest priced items on the market. Close second, with less _eye candy,_ greater 90° design, tread/track pattern continuing around the bottom, and slightly lower prices, is _CinC_ - www.pfc-cinc.com/front_page.html -
Older production (prior to mid-late 1990s) miniatures were made from a lead-tin alloy. Due to some self anointed New York state official, with over inflated ego, GHQ, CinC, and other miniature makers were pressured into using more expensive pewter.
_GHQ_ provides fairly effective step-by-step painting instructions on their website:
www.ghqmodels.com/pages/military/modelguide.asp
More elaborate and eye catching results can be obtained through methods developed by _Ritterkrieg._ However, the process is rather involved and takes a bit of practice to master. Unfortunately his original site no longer functions. The Internet Archive preserved the process at:
web.archive.org/web/20120814181748/www3.telus.net:80/Ritterkrieg/paint.htm
I have collected over 5,500 1/285th - 1/300th scale miniatures from several companies. Most are unpainted. No videos have been made due to health & privacy reasons.
Played with these in the late ‘80s when I was in the 8th grade. A bunch of us boys would stay after school and set up board games in the classroom. I think we used the Panzer Grenadier rules. It was so much fun! I still have my tanks and my 8 year old son plays with them. I’m ordering more!
i love GHQ miniature's. I bought some of the modern armour a few years ago and the details are amazing. I still intend on getting more to make 2 forces for 6mm AK47 republic some day.
You did a very good job on these tanks, especially considering their size, well done.
Many thanks for sharing,
Joe
0:08 Right above the bar code on the package, It says "R-2 T34/85" 2:08 There is an inexpensive hobby tool called a Pin-vise. Its a tiny little hand operated drill. On many of GHQs tanks you can cut off the barrels of all your tanks and drill a hole right into the gun mantles. Then replace them with the same sort of wire you see in the GHQ Air stand set. Also, try a dry brush of rust on the tracks. Most armored vehicle tracks I have worked with or seen are coated in a kind of Tar like substance that wears off very quickly in the field leaving the raw metal exposed to a bit of surface metal rust. because its mainly applied to protect the tracks during outside storage.
Very astute. The sticker says it's a T-34 etc. The packaging is generic GHQ micro armour. I'm not sure why so many people seem to take exception to pointing this out.
OMG these are so cute!!!
I'd really like to see more from this company. imagine a swarm of these tiny little tanks.
Absolutely adorable :D
Super cute! You're right on the "less-is-more" aspect, they look really good with such a simple paint job, and not muddy or overdone.
Me and my friend were thinking on buying some GHQ stuff for Team Yankee, so we can have cheap but decent sized armies to play against each other.
He also showed me a place to get some cheap but great looking 3D printed models in 6, 15, 20, 28mm and 1/48 scale, called Butlers' Printed Models, so you could maybe check them out for smol things too! They specialize in WW1, WW2, and post WW2 vehicles and items. Dunno how much shipping cost though.
This was a nice thing to see, and I can't wait for what you do next!
Micro Armor is A great way to have a huge army or armies and not take up much room for storage, lower cost, and have epic battles on a kitchen table. I usually have my display pieces and MBTs made by GHQ and the support and cannon fodder I buy from Superior and other manufactures. The infantry I stick with GHQ due to the quality and lack of molding mistakes that tend more common with the tiny details, such as guns and arms, from cheaper manufactures.
Boy, this brings back memories. I was a big Micr Armor collector and player back in the 80's and early 90's. Mostly modern (at that time) aror, US, Soviet, and some NATO. That was when my eyes and painting skills were better!
I went to a national wargame in Ottawa in 1980. Played on the soviet side. Lost against real Canadian Army officers. Highest ranking officer was a Major. These guys where good.
It says that they are T-34/85 on the label on the upper left. Unless you mean they don't print it directly onto the box.
There are 2 high quality sources of 1/285th micro armor (armour for those across the pond & bigger pond). The first is GHQ and can be found on the Internet at: www.ghqmodels.com/store/ghq-military-models.html - be sure to spend some time to read and follow the myriad links available. There's even a link for hints on painting several different model types & colors (colours) in the "FAQ" section. Note too the "Forums" link.
The second company is CinC: www.pfc-cinc.com/front_page.html - again take the time to read and follow various links, though not as many as GHQ. CinC miniatures are cheaper than GHQ miniatures, come in small clear plastic boxes, are not as convenient to order and pay for, and don't have the 'eye candy' detail of GHQ. However, there's still lots of detail to be seen in the clean simple lines of the miniatures. One other thing, CinC tank treads continue along the bottom; thus, mounting them
on a base is unnecessary.
My collection has been growing since 1980 and currently consists of over 5,500 vehicles, guns, and accessories (buildings & bridges). An 'elite' 1944 Panzer Division *theoretically* contained around 180 tanks and over 4,000 trucks and other vehicles. No two Panzer Divisions were exactly the same. On the other hand, 1944 U.S. Armored Divisions followed the standard 1943 TO&E except for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd - which followed the March, 1942 TO&E with 'modifications.' These 'heavy'
Armored Divisions had around 232 Shermans and somewhere in the neighborhood of 4,500 trucks, jeeps, and half-tracks.
See www.sturmpanzer.com/Default.aspx?tabindex=5&tabid=620&item=3&sec=0 for German unit organizations and _U.S. Army Handbook 1939-1945_ by George Forty, ISBN-10: 0760708487, for standard American armored unit organizations.
CinC models look pretty good. I'll have to get some and have a look at them some time.
I did learn in sekrit documents that the bent gunbarrels are too improve accuarcy.
Been building for years, love them and there are others taht come in a few more parts
I have bought some ghq models as well and quite like them. They fit very well with the scale of battletech.
Two Herbert videos in one day? And one of them is a review/painting hybrid? Sweeeeeet...
GHQ sells decals for their vehicles. Great video. I have never used AK Ultra Matte Varnish,,, but I like the effect I'm seeing here, just ordered some.
PS, I've got a few 1/285th scale topic videos on my channel "In The Game Room".
Sir ! That was a truly superb how-to video for painting and detailing 6mm micro armor ! There are not many of these types of videos out there, so thank you very much.
I have been a fan of this scale for about 32 years and my first attempts to paint my 6mm miniatures was so abysmal that I couldn't bring myself to paint anymore. In fact I have a U.S. M1A1 Abrams tank company and an M2 Bradley company that I bought about 10 years ago and several spare models from my youth that I couldn't bring myself to ruin, lol. I would love to get an M109 Paladin artillery battery and a comparable adversary force.
Your video was very informative and your miniatures exceptionally well painted and detailed. You should be very satisfied with the result, decals or not (I personally wouldn't apply decals). If I could paint mine half as good as you can, I'd be happy.
great video as always! These are adorable, my boyfriend told me about them but never owned any, so I know what to get him for Christmas!
They'd make a great xmas gift. They're cheap enough that you could get a few different tanks for a reasonable price too.
I have hundreds of these vehicles. Fun hobby
Yeah I have quite a bit of 285 scale vechicles and I like them very much. Would like to use them with flames of war rules, I think they would work out great.
I wanna do this and make a mini in a jar/bottle diorama of a mini tank battle or something.
That's an awesome idea!
GHQ Is the BEST in the micro armor field.
I hand-painted stars on the sides of mine's turret...looks good to me! I also have micro-armour Churchill IIIs and Panthers; they are all adorable! Anyway, GHQ also produce micro-decals for these models, so you won't have to look far!
I could have searched their site to find that. It's good to know they exist though!
Love the video! Excellent paint job! Can you make more GHQ WWII tanks?
@Herbert Erpaderp
Flames of war would be cool in this scale the tanks ranges would seem a lot more realistic
There are also the English company "Heroics & Ros" which has been going for many years, and produces miniatures at 1/300th scale. Though admittedly the GHQ models are slightly more finely detailed, Great Vid.
I think micro armour is great. I own tons of these tiny tanks however I get mine from Heroics and Ros. Their vehicles are a slightly smaller (1:300) and less detailed but cheap as chips. I believe the majority of their vehicles (Which is a few hundred) are about 40p a model which is great! -They do planes and infantry too!
Just the thought of painting 5mm infantry scares me O.o
15mm infantry is small enough for me.
6mm is terrifying!
Its easier than it might seem, the key is not to go over the top. A base colour and detailing like skin and weapons is usually enough for a decent looking miniatures. The downside of course is the amount of miniatures, I often find myself becoming sick of painting these tiny men due to the boredom of doing the same thing over and over again.
I suppose you're right. I usually want to add just a little more detail so it can be hard to just go really simple.
A big part of why I don't like painting infantry as much as tanks is the whole repetition thing too.
They seem cute, but wait until you see the wrath of the Soviet power,
I can't believe you did not paint the vision blocks! I-94 ENTERPRISE have some nice micro armor decals. Decals really do make those little tanks look gooder, at that scale it is just BRAGGING RIGHTS but platoon and company command vehicles should be marked at least for sanity on the FEBA. That fish in the background was eyeballin me... tell him to watch it!
great job
Adam
aawww, they're so cute XD, but seriously, they look great for what they are, and turned out very nice, i did not expect the tiny tanks to look so realistic after paint, personally i'd paint the little exhausts too, but they're fine the way they are. These little tanks really remind me of the old micro machines tanks, I still have a lot of mine, including a Tiger, Sturmtiger and an elefant (and more :D) too bad the micro machines are quite rare in good condition nowadays
I did actually paint the exhaust on two of them, but then forgot the rest and forgot to mention it in the video. I am not a smart man. haha
I just bought some t34 76s .
Wish you made some more 6mm videos!
Absolutely loved the video! By any chance, what is the score you used at the beginning? It sounds very similar to Dance of the Knights.
The pacage does say it's T-34-85 above 44839 02002
No. That's a sticker on the packaging. Not the packaging itself.
"What the package doesn't say is that they are T-34/85s"
R-2 T-34/85 clearly labeled on package (as all GHQ products are)
GHQ are the highest quality 1/285 scale models on the market bar none.
I too, am taken back. It's a vintage package, correct? Sometime in the late 80s? The stuff on the back is all the puffery you used to get when these were sold in person! I painted lots of these, which I still have, and always painted the markings on by hand. No decals! But I never did all the detail you did - those look wonderful.
Thanks for taking the time to write which paints you use in the comments. It really helps!
I have gone through the Goldilocks of scale trying to find the best scale for me and my son to do ww2 gaming using Battlegroup rules (which you need in your life by the way).
20mm too Big
10mm too small
15mm aaaah just right!
havent tried 1/285, reckon they sit between 6mm and 10mm? confoosed!
6mm=1/285... no more confoosion i hope
I use these for Axis & Allies. :)
Nice where did u buy them?
Will you build any Tamiya 1:48 scale tanks in the future?
Hi Herbert, could you build a plastic warlord T34/85? I'm getting one for Christmas and I'm quite inexperienced in models and I would like something to refer to while making it so I don't stuff up.
You forgot the rust on the exhaust Herb.
Hello their have a interesting question but what size airbrush do you use?
I want to get the T-95 (doom turtle). Herbert were did you get this kit?
I bought it from the GHQ site. Seemed easier than trying to find a distributor in Australia.
Well on the packet above bar code is t34/85 ..
GHQ made a number of decal sheets. I don't know if they still do ? I remember back in the late 70's and 80's that GHQ was very popular with miniature war gamers. I play a game called BattleTech and I have a large force on ground vehicles. I've put the numbers on s number of them and they really do add a lot to the vehicle. Oh! One other thing, they are a bitch to put on .!!!
00:11 - The package *literally* says, T-34/85 right above the bar code.
Oh yes. It's definitely the package and not a sticker. It's totally a T-34/85 package and not a generic one.
@@HerbertErpaderp - I get your comment, sarcasm and all. However, you worded the video in such a way that the insinuation was that there are no markings identifying the contents of the package. Which there are. The package clearly says T-34/85, it's just not printed directly on the card. If one were to look at that specific package, they would 100% know what they're (possibly) purchasing.
Can u make more PLZ PLZ PLZ PLEASE! :)
Amazing work for gaming or war dioramas, the quality is amazing and so is the detail, I did a Godzilla diorama for my nephew and to this day he loves it. I’m thinking of doing a DDG McCain firing off misiles in Honor of Senator John McCain, a real American Hero !!
What games use this scale? They look good :)
is there any way you will ever make a 1/72 plane or something like that? something bigger than a finger nail would be nice, still awesome video
I do have a 1/72 scale plane kit. I'll get around to building it at some point!
There’s a big Micro Army Team Yankee movement going on now.
Do you have a link to a forum ?
Can you do microants
POV: your looking for a tank for your Godzilla collection.
The rolls are sleeping mats
Hi ! What is thé dimensions in mm ? Its 6 but the XYZ AXE
I have no idea. I don't have them on hand to measure.
What wargame?
I don't know the names of any specifically... I don't play any myself.
I am sure there are a lot though. You could probably even play stuff like flames of war at this scale.
googling 6mm wargames should yield some results.
i can inmage 1:700 tank
Instead of a file you should use the earth its flat aparently
Черт, я не представляю, как такое можно было сделать! Особенно, кто твой нынешний минимум - 1/150!
i stopped watching 10 seconds in, it says t 34 right on the bar code
A stick on label is definitely part of the packaging. Yes. Thus it's not at all generic packaging.
How unfortunate to lose such a valued view /s
Hm... these models are too big too me... 😆
Understandable. They ARE pretty darn big.
That moment when a monopoly piece is more detailed than a 1/76 model tank, also cute betta fish in the background at 4:55
ghq has 2 quialtys. blister is worst serial. the cheap version.
