- Drafted in the 13th round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, Brian Sipe became renowned for his role as quarterback of the “Kardiac Kids”, winning the NFL MVP in 1980. Now living in California, Sipe reflects back on his playing days in Cleveland and the excitement of taking his grandchildren to their first Browns game.
I love this guy ... What a fine human being.
They don't make players like him anymore with the grace and humility to go along with the charisma and gutsiness. The game of football just isn't the same.
💯. Game isn't the same. Still miss him and that whole team. Some cold days in that stadium, warmest feeling ever!
still droppin dimes
Still my hero... #17. I'm almost 51 yrs. old, and I still love the Kardiac Kids.
Brian Sipe was the man! From 1975-78 Greg Pruitt was the best RB in the NFL, better than even OJ Simpson but he had SO MANY injuries that hampered him & the Browns evolved into a pass oriented team with Sipe emerging as the passing wizard! He had really good receivers in Reggie Rucker, Dave Logan, Ozzie Newsome & Ricky Feacher. Sipe would call his own plays, sustain concussions and keep playing, he could get it done! The Browns outside of 1980 never had the championship defense to match that prolific offense orchestrated by Brian Sipe!
I'm almost 51 also... BRIAN WOW he's back 😁
Sipe is now my freshman head coach for torrey pines hes a great coach
Tell him Thank You... from across the Border...He is great.
BRING BACK THOSE UNIFORMS!!!
I was just thinking that.
Those dont look good with modern day uniforms the shape of everything is so different ... It would look plain and trash
@J Dial they both look trashy and gaudy
@@tori9365 well they brought them back and they look amazing
@@tori9365 they brought them back and made them better
what is doing now.
it sounds that he is a Christian. cool way to go .
I sensed he was a Christian almost before the end of his first sentence. His gratitude was so obvious...happy to see he's happy and enjoying life. He earned it.
Steelers fan from England...Brian Sipe was a helluva football player. Should've gone to SB XV.
+David pollard Fouts of San Diego would have gone. But, much like the San Diego chokers 4 yrs in a row. Sipe blew it in the divisional playoffs. Should have won 15-14. Lost 14-12. Kosar would choke 86-87.
@@snakeoiler1292 Rutigliano caused the loss with his atroicious handling of the game--the INT against Oakland killed the Browns season and the play should never been called in the driving winds/chill of that day--the Browns went on to a few more years of mediocrity under Rutigliano and he was ultimately fired-and never coached in the NFL again
Blame elway in 86/87
Sipe was my first Browns QB. Fun to watch. Kardiac Kids games pulled me in to watch the full games. Good stuff.
Mine too
Same…
Still my hero Brian sipe. For the browns
Thanks Brian, for a great run.
Sipe is the reason I became a Cleveland fan (and I live in Texas)... and even a football fan in general. When I was a kid... I'm 50 now.... I saw him on a kid's TV show... "Kids Are People Too"... and for some reason he just resonated with me and I have been a Browns fan ever since... except for a brief hiatus... but we won't talk about that. To this day... I have never even been to Cleveland. Alas, I don't get the same excitement I used to get from watching football... Football is different today. It seems a lot of players don't know what humility is. Anyway... yeah... Sipe.... he da man (or was anyway)
Great job Brian, the Lord has blessed you with a rewarding life!
One of my all time favorite. ❤️
Sipe-great guy...
Brian was a hero of mine as a CHILD growing up, i idolized& still idolize him plus, he had a cool name too.
Hey Mr Sipe...Thank you for how you inspired us...Cardiac Kids.
I'm a lifelong Bengals fan, but Brian Sipe is my favorite Browns player...bar none
You were great with Rutigliano, and Jerry Sherk was a pleasure to watch. 2018 should be an exciting year for us.
That Cleveland Browns should have won a super bowl that year about several times in 80s 1980-1981 season and 1986-1987 /1987-1988 & 1988-1989 and 1989/1990
Love You Brian Sipe!!!
Miss you dude..
God loves you even more
I know in heaven we won't study war..
But maybe just one more football game with bodies that never grow old
😞
One of the most underrated qbs of his era
I grew up in Pittsburgh in the 70' s.......i feared 3 QBs.....Stabler....Bert Jones....and Brian Sipe. Greise, Fouts, Staubach, Tarkenton......Nah......Sipe was deadly to Steeler Nation
I have no connection with the Browns or Cleveland except one Christmas around 78 or 79 my dad's military friend bought me and my brother Browns windbreakers. I'm from Louisiana so being a Saints fan in the 70's was torture, so just for a little while I became a bandwagon Browns fan and had the jacket to match. Those were good days for you Browns fans. I of course went back to my Saints.
I'm 56 now and Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar top the list of the best Browns QBs since '74.........
I'm a browns fan just like my great grandpa
One of only two Browns players to win NFL MVP the other is who else but the G.O.A.T himself Jim Brown.
Back in 1997 through work I came across this woman who’s last name was Sipe so of course I HAD to ask...
She was related to him through marriage. I told her how he was my favorite QB as a kid! Yeah I wasn’t the first to ask that question within 2 minutes of meeting her. 👍🏻
shot out to the legend and true warrior brian sipe....and to the new black brian sipe DTR handling unfinished business for the browns this season 🏈 👑
thank you so much, Brian!!!
I will never forget in 1981 how then Cleveland Browns coach Sam Rutigliano said he couldn't care less that Brian Sipe jumped to the USFL-as he was "damaged goods" anyway. He had complete confidence in QB Paul McDonald as he was a "very special player". Well that "special player" completely "choked" (the Browns started 1981 at 1-6) had to be benched and ultimately Rutigliano was fired by then Browns owner Art Modell
1983 was Sipe's last year with the Browns. They went 9-7 and missed the playoffs by one game. Paul McDonald started in 1984 and was awful. Sam Rutigliano was fired after 8 games and the defensive coordinator, Marty Schottenheimer took it from there! Paul McDonald didn't make the team in 1985, he was cut! The Browns had Gary Danielson starting and rookie Bernie Kosar backing him up!
I remember that also.. But I thought it was Modell that pushed him out.. Clueless leadership.. Then to the Generals where Flutie and his magic couldn't top Sipe... Along with Herschel Walker and Mourice Carthon and others.. How did they not win the championship.. Was Trump that teams owner? Bring back those games so I can watch.. Anthony Carter Michigan.. Philadelphia Stars.. LA Express with Kevin Mack.. They were fun to watch
Yes, and in 1985 genius Modell fired Bill Belichek. The Browns have had talent but always lacked intelligent ownership. Haslem is no better even after having been a (very) minority owner of the Steelers to get tutored on owning a professional sports team. I don't think he learned very much. He should have stuck to the truck stops.
At this point in the 2020 season the Browns are in play for a decent playoff spot. I bleed Steelers black and gold but have always been a Browns fan because of the Turnpike Rivalry the two teams owned for years. The Browns are on the way up and the Steelers continue to tread water, at best. Ben is old and tired and Baker is getting excellent experience. Teams ebb and flow and it's fun to watch. The Rooney's are becoming more socially woke and sacrificing talent and fire just to be politically correct. No way to run a business especially in the tough, hard hatted town like the Burg.
Brian Sipe is my all time favorite Brown's QB, he had a great arm and he was so dam good looking lol, not gay at all!
Look at Sipe next to Ozzie, then remember how Bernie was bigger than Ozzie
2016. CLEVELAND BROWNS Should hire Brian Sipe as there next coach, class act. I think he would help out Johny M. a great deal. Not only in football but in life, so come on Cleveland give Sipe a chance.
Great QB and even better Man.
I started watching the Browns when I was 6. I remember the 80s Browns so well! Some of the fondest memories ever! The city was on Fire with Sipe and the guys. FF to 2020/2021...Baker is now our modern day Sipe. GO BROWNS!! Will it into existence!
Brian Sipe lives close to me? Dang. Great memories back then. Every game was a treat!
That season was an emotional roller coaster!
will have them glory days back again with Cleveland Browns on top Brown's forever
Thank you Mr. Siper.
I'm related to Brian sipe
Still my all-time favorite athlete. #17 🧡
Best eva!! Sipe rules!Kardiac Kids was SPECIAL!
I went to a game when I was a kid. Brian sipe was the quarterback. A fan had a jersey with his number and because I was only 8 years old I thought Brian sipe was in the stands somehow. I realized when the guy turned around it wasn’t him but my little kid brain got confused
Cody Kessler .. I see it. :)
Best QB Ever. Leader of a group of guys that played for the love of the game and for each other, and the best fans. Football has never been the same since. A real champion!
Only today I learned about Brian Sipe!
Could be proud to be browns fan then now u have to be crazy
What a fun time that 1980 season was!
Players weren't babies then
Sipe or Kosar? No comparison.
aw rats, right up until he said "god"
Well I hope this isn't something terribly upsetting but something I learned fairly recently.
As you know, the Cardiac Kids 1980 season ended with the Red Right 88 play in which Raider safety Mike Davis intercepted Sipe's pass intended for Ozzie Newsom in the end zone with 41 second left. Oakland won 14-12 - and went on to win the 1981 Super Bowl.
In 1982, former Cleveland Browns players DE Lyle Alzado and RB Greg Pruitt were traded to the Raiders. Their new teammates told Pruitt that Mike Davis had easily the worst hands on the entire team. Gene Upshaw said Mike Davis couldn't catch a cold in Alaska in January. Yet there was Davis intercepting a pass on one of the coldest days in NFL history. Some of his teammates are still wondering how he did it.
Remember when he took over for phipps and left for USFL $$$ now I dont blame him
At 0:37-0:39 he sounds like a young Neil Diamond actually. Great guy and great team!
I miss the Kids
Grew up in the '70s...next to Fran Tarkenton my favorite QB
Named my son after. Brian sipe McGuire
This guy is why I am browns fan
The cardiac kids!
