All done over the internet. None of the musicians or Tori were in the same city. The gray haired fellow, Jim, produced the song and the video. Amazing.
I wouldn't call this a cover. It is far more. It is at minimum a tribute, and in my opinion a rediscovery. What wasn't mentioned here is that Tori is multi-talented. She's 20 years old and is an accomplished vocalist, plays guitar and piano, and is an audio engineer and has her own studio equipment. Much of the background harmony is actually her voice that was recorded in layers, and then produced by her collaborator, Jim Wilkas. That's what makes it so beautiful. If you check out her channel which I highly suggest, she has a video where she actually demonstrates how she creates the layering to create the Carpenter sound. With all that said, between UA-cam and her social media she has a number of other artists covered, and she still has a bit of that Karen Carpenter sound. I know she will be releasing more full Carpenter songs, but currently has quite a number of their songs as shorts.
Thanks for the review. WingsOfPegasus (YT) did a review showing how Tori and Karen compare by looking at the frequencies of the performances. It really helped me understand why I hear Karen so much in this, while still recognizing the differences.
It's so great to hear a voice so beautiful that so closely resembles Karen Carpenter's voice. Tori Holub is an amazing singer. Thank you Dani for your reaction.
Tori is also technically inclined, knows alot about the recording techniques, and is a big Carpenters fan to boot. Her voice will likely even get better with age - she's still quite young too.
Thanks for your reaction Dani. Karen Carpenter will live in our hearts forever, but I am happy to listen to Tori Holub, keeping Karen's music alive. I wish Tori all the best and hope to see her in concert one day. I never got to see The Carpenters live.
Soooo completely missed just how amazing the actual video was, as it cleverly showed you what each part was doing and when it was doing it, a very creative and smart idea for a video
Tori, if you have the time, take a look at "Wings of Pegasus". The man is very knowledgeable and breaks everything down via software. Very informative.
This is really amazing. I am so blown away by this. To perfect a sound that comes anywhere close to magnificence of Karen Carpenter is an overwhelming, if not impossible task. What a fabulous performance by Tori. Very, very impressed.💗💜♥
The first time I heard this song (I was only about 10 or 11!) ,I thought to myself:"This is a of a kind voice! NOBODY will EVER achieve this softness, tenderness that Karen had! I stand corrected! OMG! What a beautiful remake! 🥰💓
Thanks for the reaction Dani ❤. UA-cam is letting me write, at least for now. When Tori and Jim dropped this my head exploded. This, to me, is the finest tribute/homage to the great lady that has ever been. It has already been side by side compared to the original YOU video, Karen sitting in the U. It’s note for note (one piano key to the end was doubled (Jim!). Same guy made another video where he just subbed in the cover under the original so Karen is lip syncing to Tori’s vocal. Perfect match and all visible instruments and Richard all match. Jim did an engineering masterpiece and the vocals are perfect. It was released on 3/2/24 Karen’s birthday in heaven. All the musicians, everyone loves Carpenters, it shows. More is coming. And I know you have more from Tori, an original! Can’t wait Dani ❤ Joe
Hi Dani, It is wonderful that Tori sings so beautiful, and she does and Karen has a lot of imitators and that is all they can be. Not taking anything away from Toni, But it is impossible that there will ever be a singer who had 37 layers to her voice like Karen did. I am 62 years old and in my lifetime since I am a huge music lover I have heard thousands and thousands of singers and they are all wonderful and I am a big fan of hundrens and hundreds of singers, but there is ONLY ONE KAREN. No one else will ever come close or equal the Richness of Karen's voice. She is the only singer who gives me chills down my spine when I hear her sing and I experience 37 emotions. Karen was a absolute Genius.
She is by far the closest sounding to Karen. To those of us Karen affondiasos from long ago😂, we can tell the difference in the edginess, clarity, and enunciation. This is no knock on Tori . It is just why the original is usually the best.
If you just play the audio and listen to her singing voice and the music with the background vocals it sounds almost exactly like Karen Carpenter or very similar to her voice in the original song. Can you react to "Never Knew Love Like This Before" by Stephanie Mills from 1980 as I have requested it about 5 times so far. Thanks.
Dani! Tori's actually been to the Carpenter's house and her tomb. She's also amassed a fairly substantial library of articles and periodicals on the Carpenters; so, yes, she loved them ... Karen in particular. What's amazing about Tori is that she sings better then a lot of mainstream pop singers, so well that that's all she needs to do. But she also knows her way around the ProTools sequencing application suite and multitrack decks. She knows all about production. If you see any of her videos made from her home studio, you'll see the walls lined with anechoic wedge squares. One thing I find pleasing about listening to her is her vocal range, in the alto region, which helps her do covers of the Carpenters. What's stunning is her on-pitch delivery and her sustained vibrato, which a lot of pop singers don't have. It's rather hard to stop listening to her once you've heard her sing. Thanks for doing this one!
Hi Joe! Oh yes ... I love listening to Fil explain why he appreciates certain artists. I was jazzed when he picked up Tori's collaboration with Mike. Cheers! :)@@jbs256
@@christopheryochum3602that’s Jim Wilkas and that was my request to Fil. I misunderstood what he meant by cover and presented this to him. He ran with it. ❤ Best mistake evah!
Tori is doing a great job here; and I would like to believe that Karen would love this cover, BUT even though Tori sounds close in vocals to Karen, there is one real problem here, and that is Tori does not have the real pain in her voice that Karen had. Karen lived pain and sadness and that cannot be replicated. Nice job to Tori though.
@@justafreethinker if that’s THE difference between the sound, I’m good with that. Been on the Tori Express since October. Buckle up. Look at her history. Check out Wings Of Pegasus.
Dani, may I ask when the second song is queued for? I know Jim is getting ready to drop a song but not sure of when. Something about he’d have to off me or something? 🤷🏻♂️ I want to have clearance to request the new one when it drops. You know I’ll be here. Joe
@babayegajaeger7082 What a wonderful compliment she gave to Tori. Please tell her that. Then check the Wings of Pegasus analysis of this song and Tori, maybe both of you watch it.
Thats a great rendition but if you listen closely you can pick up on the differences...the thickness of this voice is there, her vocal emotion is not there like the GREAT KAREN CARPENTER, and the quivering voice of Tori's voice is also not like Karen would sing
Because she is Tori. She is singing in her voice with some “Karen” embellishments. There used to be a side by side video now created by Eduard4000 that shows how close Tori is. It also shows Tori is singing in a slightly lower register than Karen. Their range is different but the cross. Karen can go lower, to the basement. Tori is on the staircase down to but not at the basement. Tori can go way higher than Karen ever did. Look for her cover of ON-J Never Been Mellow!
All done over the internet. None of the musicians or Tori were in the same city. The gray haired fellow, Jim, produced the song and the video. Amazing.
An incredible talent. Hopefully Tori Holub makes it big time. She's a very humble young lady.

She's met Richard Carpenter and performed at a Carpenters celebration recently.
Tori sounds so much like Karen Carpenter it makes you wonder if you have gone back in time.
Karen Carpenter has been re-incarnated. OUTSTANDING VOICE Tori!!!😀 Lets her more of Tori
Incredible! If I didn't know who was singing I would swear it was Karen Carpenter. Thank for sharing Dani!
So Incredible Dani. I just can't believe this young lady, Great Vocals.😏

I've listened to several of Tori's short videos and she sounds fantastic. I love her Karen Carpenter covers.

Wonder if Richard C. could record a song with her?
