Really nice to see this video !
I was in Dordrecht a few
years ago and realized that there was a lot from the fifteenhundreds stil standing there.
    Never knew.
    Most Dutch people don't
know that Dordt is a very historic place ; at least what is left of it.
    Nice you found out !🌹⭐️

Best thing, you found the Dutch public transport. All corners of the country (Den Helder/Texel, Groningen, Maastricht, Vlissingen) can be done in a day-trip. And you're in R'dam ... Flemish places like Antwerpen, Brugge ... or foreign Brussels, Paris aren't far away by train. Considering the current self-inflected EU energy debacle, it's the right time to profit off this luxury before we go back to coal and steam.
Nice to see you probably got your first guest for the "rijsttafel" episode (this Indiana person), now you only need an Indonesian to explain all the dishes, haha ...

Dordrecht is a very historical town. If you go again it’s nice to do a (guided) city tour. You can learn a lot about Dutch history. And see the beautiful buildings.
For me it was good to see a little bit of the region I grew up.

Although it was absolutely worth it and astonishing, there is one thing for me to mention...: You guys tend to hang around just in the Rotterdam area, while The Rotterdam area does not represent the Netherlands...and so you guys basically have seen just an only the Rotterdam area so far. It's like visiting the USA and just and only stay in and around San Fransisco... I mean, been there done that, but San Fransisco was just one of the towns I visited... So I really am waiting for you guys to explore the northern part of Zuid-Holland, Noord-Holland, Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe, Overijssel, Gelderland Flevoland, Utrecht (not just the town) Brabant, Limburg and Zeeland !
I'd say: The Grand Rotterdam Area is covered now ;-) so...Next !

Fun fact Dordrecht is the oldest city of Holland ( not Netherlands) .. it was the first city that was givven the right to call itself a city ( stadsrecht witch means city rights )

Yes, Dordt in Stoom is a great festival, recurring every other year (pandemics permitting). I was there in 2018 as a crew member on one of the steamboats. Then it was rather rainy. The yearly "Wereldhavendagen" in Rotterdam (first weekend of September) may feature some steam again. And there are these museum railways featuring steam. Obviously, you can "preview" everything here on UA-cam.
Steam does look romantic, but keeping steam alive also gives opportunities to show the efforts and the sacrifices. You may get impressions from ua-cam.com/video/vG7-fkqKdwI/v-deo.html (Dutch spoken, me being a fireman (stoker): just going to top up the coal is a day trip, and the fire is started the day before.
Dordrecht may be an interesting town for other reasons. It was surpassed as a sea port by Rotterdam in the 19th century, and there may be a direct link to the Pilgrim Fathers.

My dad did the same, taking the waterbus to the Festival together with my 4 year old nephew, they also really enjoyed seeing all the steam engines, vehicles and for my nephew to take some kids rides.

Very entertaining video, thanks. I did not know this festival existed. How lucky that the weather was so nice. My wife and I once visited Dordrecht and it's Dordrechts Museum: beautiful, with amazing paintings, of course many with views of the rivers and the boats on it. Definitely worth a visit. As Marleen Honcoop mentioned in her comment a very historical city indeed. It's tactical position along the rivers greatly contributed to that, which is also explained in the museum.

I have never heard of Dordrecht in relation with Italy. On the other hand, Amsterdam is among the places called "the Venice of the North", and in the 19th century had an influx of ice makers, chimney sweeps and terrazzo craftsmen from Italy. (Forgive me for being unable to point to the specific regions (states, back then.)

@@chrislaarman7532 Flanders and the Netherlands were the centre of the Northern Renaissance, which followed the renaissance in Italy. But especially after the reformation the protestant North got much more restrained and less exuberant than for example the Flemish architecture from shortly before which was still very much catholic. So I wonder from when this Italian vibe is.

Nice to see that you enjoy all the different aspects of our country. For a deeper dive in the connection between our country The Netherlands and the USA i have a challenge for you. You know the history of New York. It started as Nieuw Amsterdam and Peter Stuyvesant sold it to the British. But do you know something abouth : De acte van verlathinge? In 1581 the rebels in Holland declared themself independ from Spain with this document. The original document is displayed in Het rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Parts of the tekst of this document is used in the Declaration of independence in 1776 in your country. One of the many reasons to go to Amsterdam and visit Het Rijksmuseum. Can you see De Nachtwacht van Rembrandt van Rijn. You absolutely know the Pilgrim Fathers. But did you know they lived in Holland from 1609 till 1620. In the city Leiden. In 1620 the left for Southampton from Delfshaven ( now a part of Rotterdam) to transfer to the Mayflower. The rest is history.
