That’s amazing that the Chinese fell for it. As a Chinese speaker myself, i can say that wasn’t exactly the best mandarin; he pronounced the cantonese word for “fire/shoot” (玩火) instead of mandarin when he told them not shoot.
He also made some grammatical errors & said “bu kai huo” (不開火) where it would be more grammatically correct if he was to says “bie kai huo” (別開火).
He’s a lucky man the Chinese soldiers didn’t pick up on that.
EDIT: Actually, “kai huo (開火)” is ok, it literally means “open fire” (i.e: typically you say if you were shooting cannons or something). If he was to have said “bie kai chang (別開槍)” meaning “don’t shoot (your gun)” colloquially would be better.

So what? Chinese soldiers killed Chinese soldiers during the Chinese civil war which ended around one year before the Korean war. What would the Chinese elders feel after they learned about their children killing each other. Btw if Taiwan and China were to fight each other, what will the people in Fujian feel? Because most people in Taiwan are Hokkien people, and they have relatives in Fujian as well. And also during the cultural revolution, the red guards who were pro communist fanatics sold out their elders for being too traditional and anti-maoist.
Ideologies, nationalism, politics. These stuffs destroy families. Look at Singapore and Malaysia, there are Chinese people living in those countries. Singaporeans have relatives in Malaysia and Malaysians have relatives living in Singapore. But many of them in both sides view each other as adversaries.
You thought about how the descendants of those Communist Chinese soldiers feel after learning about an Chinese American soldier repelling them off. Let me ask you, how will their ANCESTORS feel? Will they smile upon knowing who are the victors in the war?
