Interesting fact major lee had a brother who served in the us army as an officer in the Korean war and himself was decorated with the second highest award for valor the distinguished service cross. I think they are the only pair of brothers who served in Korea that received the second highest award for valor.
Family of badass
Sadly, his brother committed suicide in Taiwan. He must've seen too many horrors during his years in service.
They need to upgrade is navy cross to a medal of honor
Skankhunt42 i feel like a navy cross is just pure insult in my opinion. Do they still get saluted if you’re an enlisted? Whats the benefits of it, aside from being 2nd highest award. Do he get free gas at any px? He showed true balls there, definitely medal of honor actions.

And who says that? Oh right, all the Marines who served with him. Instead the Lt. Colonel gets it because he was killed. Nowadays it's better, when people do something noble, gutsy, great and lose their lives in the process - their death makes it clear the valor they did which was deserving of the MOH. But that guy got it BECAUSE he died.
Agreed. I just finished The Last Stand of Fox Company. Jesus, that guy was a stud. As were many people there.

To all you people calling him a traitor to china
He was born in the USA, the USA was his home (he's dead now), he grew up in the USA, he was an American, he fought for America.
How can you call him a traitor if he fought for his home, he'd be a traitor if he went to china to fight for china for a country that's not his home against his country which is his home, makes no sense
He said: do not shot, I'm Chinese. Even stupid can tell that he is for his own coward life, not the United States, at that monment to say he is a Chinese, and then, apparently he betrayed his creed and chose to use excuse "fight for American" to get himself a coward live. Traitor is not a suitable word, and coward are obviously more suitable for him. Of course one I think a coward is obviously a traitor who betrayed himself.

That’s amazing that the Chinese fell for it. As a Chinese speaker myself, i can say that wasn’t exactly the best mandarin; he pronounced the cantonese word for “fire/shoot” (玩火) instead of mandarin when he told them not shoot.
He also made some grammatical errors & said “bu kai huo” (不開火) where it would be more grammatically correct if he was to says “bie kai huo” (別開火).
He’s a lucky man the Chinese soldiers didn’t pick up on that.
EDIT: Actually, “kai huo (開火)” is ok, it literally means “open fire” (i.e: typically you say if you were shooting cannons or something). If he was to have said “bie kai chang (別開槍)” meaning “don’t shoot (your gun)” colloquially would be better.
I was surprised as well. The Chinese really don’t like him for that, but it more embarrassing that they actually fell for it.
@@matthewct8167 most of people in that ear were not well educated so gramma mistake is fine but how he fooling people was disgrace.
unlike today, during that time only a little portion of Chinese people speak standard Mandarin, most of them speak their own dialect, or speak Mandarin with a strong accent. so they might ignored the pronunciation and grammar

But I don't know what would the decendents and families of those KIA Chinese soldiers think about his action if they knew what this man had done in that battle. And also I would be curious about what his relatives in China would think about it too. Could be really interesting.
So what? Chinese soldiers killed Chinese soldiers during the Chinese civil war which ended around one year before the Korean war. What would the Chinese elders feel after they learned about their children killing each other. Btw if Taiwan and China were to fight each other, what will the people in Fujian feel? Because most people in Taiwan are Hokkien people, and they have relatives in Fujian as well. And also during the cultural revolution, the red guards who were pro communist fanatics sold out their elders for being too traditional and anti-maoist.
Ideologies, nationalism, politics. These stuffs destroy families. Look at Singapore and Malaysia, there are Chinese people living in those countries. Singaporeans have relatives in Malaysia and Malaysians have relatives living in Singapore. But many of them in both sides view each other as adversaries.
You thought about how the descendants of those Communist Chinese soldiers feel after learning about an Chinese American soldier repelling them off. Let me ask you, how will their ANCESTORS feel? Will they smile upon knowing who are the victors in the war?
