I ugly cried the first few times I heard this song. I feel like she's been following me around for quite some time!!!
Thank you for being so real and for sharing this song with the world. I needed it so much right now to know again that I'm not alone!

I ugly cry every time. It hides in my Playlists, a beautiful bomb of emotions, waiting... next thing I know, I'm sitting in the PDQ drive thru, sobbing 😭

Maybe my all time favorite Brandi song. Besides the beautiful harmonies between the three, the lyrics just kill me. I'm very lucky that both of my parents are still living. But we live 800 miles from one another and so I don't get to see them very often. Yet I do see my father's face staring back at me in the mirror and hear my mother's words falling out of my mouth. Guaranteed to make me cry every time.

I haven't seen my father in some time
But his face is always staring back at me
His heavy hands hang at the ends of my arms
And my colors change like the sea
But I don't worry much about time lost
I'm not gunning for the dreams I couldn't find
'Cause he taught me how to walk the best that I can
On the road I've left behind
    But most of all
    He taught me to forgive
How to keep a cool head
How to love the one you're with
And when I'm far into the distance
And the pushing comes to shove
    To remember what comes back
When you give away your love
    Give away your love
When you give your love away
    Give away your love
    I haven't heard my mother's voice in a while
But her words are always falling out my mouth
My mind and spirit are at odds sometimes
And they fight like the north and the south
But I still care enough to bear the weight
Of the heaviness to which my heart is tethered
She taught me how to be strong and say goodbye
    And that love is forever
    But most of all
She taught me how to fight
How to move across the line
Between the wrong and the right
And when I'm turned out in the darkness
And the pushing comes to shove
    To remember what comes back
When you give away your love
    Give away your love
When you give your love away
    Give away your love
    Give your love away
    Oh, give your love away
And remember what comes back to you
    Give your love away
    Oh, give your love away
And remember what comes back to you
I haven't seen my father in some time
But his face is always staring back at me
His heavy hands swing at the ends of my arms
And my colors change like the sea

This particular performance of this song is especially beautiful, poignant, and it makes you FEEL..it’s what she’s best at..making the listener/viewer actually FEEL her music. It’s a unique and very rare gift,...she will be an icon...you just cannot deny this level of singing and songwriting from Tim, Phil, and Brandi.

i have played this cd non stop since i got it and i did that dumb thing where i got to track 7 and went back to the start because i loved them all so much...on august 3rd my dad passed away he lives in the the UK and im in australia and from the age of 11 to 35 we had no contact...then in 97 i reconnected with him after a trip to the uk and it was such a healing thing...he did the best he could and i was able to move past any hurt and forgive him and have him in my life...this song hit me like a brick and while i cried its a beautiful gift to me now forever

Hi, Andrea. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I am glad though that you were able to reconnect and forgive him. This song hits me hard, too, and makes me grateful for all the love I received and still receive. I have always loved the band, but I have needed their music even more recently. Blessings ~

Me, absolutely! I was blessed with amazing parents who have been gone now up to 35 yrs. I listen to this song often, always returning to it ever since I first heard it a few years ago. It touches my heart to the core, gives me peace and understanding of who I am. 🫶🏻
