    “Scottish: of Norman origin a habitational name from Graveron-Sémerville in Eure (Normandy) from the ancient Germanic personal name Sigimar (see Siemer ) + Old French ville 'settlement'”
    It usually translates to “summer town” but in this case, it can be interpreted as “summer settlement”. The location this game takes place in could be the ideal “settlement” for the aliens, for reasons we don’t exactly know. But we do know that humans have been aware of these aliens, or at least their technology, for a long enough period of time to experiment on it. This can be seen by the human scientists working in the background of the alien ship.
    The red, blue, and purple soldiers were possibly alien technology that was discovered by humans several years before the invasion. The humans assumed war was inevitable, so they produced 3 super soldiers with this alien technology to prepare. The fact that humans use these abilities and that the orbs also treat you in a friendly manner seems to suggest it’s a human-alien hybrid technology, not just one or the other. However, once the aliens actually appeared, the humans found out they were vastly underprepared and failed to stop it. Now all the 3 super soldiers can do is try their best to stop the invasion, despite how hopeless it is. It seems like the alien technology is immortal, so even if one of them dies, all 3 must remain together in a new form.
    To explain why the aliens are invading and why so many children were trapped in those simulations: I think the aliens believe they are superior to humans. They think of earth as just another planet to colonize, but they are fascinated enough by humans to not outright kill them. They value mothers and children because mothers provide children, and children are “fresh slates” which they can mold into their own “better” versions of what humans should be. That’s why the mother and child were not killed when you abandoned them on the tower.
    The 3 floating alien rocks you see at the end are most likely the overlords of their alien species. In the end, you must come up with a good enough argument to convince the aliens to let you leave. If you can’t, they try to bribe you with another fake reality while they continue to destroy earth. If you can understand their language and speak back to them, they will recognize your intelligence and let you go back to reality.
    If you paid close attention to the background details, there are actually color codes hidden in some areas, which explain how the alien language works. For example, “purple purple purple” means “alien”, “blue blue blue” means “human”, and “purple blue red” means “family” (according to your interpretation of the symbols). You can also pick up on context clues for what some color patterns mean by what the orbs tell you in some situations. At the end of the game, you have to take these hidden conversational patterns to create your own argument and prove your autonomy to the aliens.
    It’s a game about understanding issues that are larger than life. Death, destruction, and isolation are common themes. When humanity is falling apart, will you choose to hang onto whatever semblance of comfort you have left, or face the harsh reality in front of you? If you choose the first option, you get the “resignation” endings where you stay in a comfortable simulation forever. If you choose the other option, you can free yourself and others and keep on living in reality, no matter how destroyed it is. You could tie this into the stages of grief, where one either moves into acceptance or stays stuck in the earlier stages forever.

      The ending makes so much more sense now.
      “Blue red blue” could be a form of greeting, like “hey, I can hear you, I can understand you, hello”.
      “Blue blue red” might be “state your business, go ahead with what you want to request, what do you want to know”, since we then respond with “blue blue blue, purple purple purple” humans, aliens.
      Which might be a question as to our relation to them.
      Then the aliens respond with “humans, blue purple purple” which might be them asking us to leave or give in to their request.
      We then respond with “humans, red purple purple” which might mean “no, we are staying, we will not do your bidding”.
      “aliens, red purple purple, red red red”
      “humans, red purple purple, red red red”
      This is where my conjecture falls apart… “red red red” seems to be confirming something..? Is them both saying “red purple purple” a way of agreeing to coexist? But that wouldn’t make sense since the pillars are shifting away from earth in the last scene.
      I thought of this in the spur of the moment without searching up a guide on this alien language. Maybe I’ll update my comment after I read through some guides.

In the beginning of the game they tried to lure in the protagonist's kid, but failed after the kid fell backwards into the trashbin. Why were they kidnapping kids? No idea. This is just based on my own conjecture, but my theory for the overarching story is that the aliens weren't actually trying to invade or be violent. I think this because it turned out that everyone who got pulled up by their abduction beams were just put into a happy Matrix-style simulation and were unharmed at the end. I think what happened is all of the destruction was caused by the aliens being unable to communicate and not understanding Earth biology. So the three endings are 1: you are unable to communicate and accept going into the simulation, 2: you are unable to communicate and use your powers to destroy the aliens, which they are unprepared to defend against because they THINK they are being peaceful, and 3: you are able to communicate the harm they've done, the aliens realize their mistake and remove themselves from Earth in the hopes of fostering future cooperation. If this is true it seems likely that the three comets were also sent by the aliens. Their purpose was to give Earth life the ability to communicate with them, but they didn't realize that wouldn't be enough because human life isn't a hive mind/central consciousness like the aliens appear to be. Thanks for the video Jack!

    • @chandlerhimmel5126
      @chandlerhimmel5126 2 роки тому +1

      @@senseishu937 I think it was an extension of the alien's lack of understanding of human biology. They arrived at Earth expecting to meet another hive-mind-like organism like themselves. This is humanizing their thinking, but I think when they saw humans they thought something like "Obviously those are the cells/neurons/drones ect. that feed information to the larger organism. I'll send in my equivalent and we'll start talking that way." So they started with the spikes, but that didn't get a response they understood. So they might have thought something like "Ok, maybe I need to make something more similar in scale to their receptors." So it made and sent in the balls, but that didn't work either. Now it's been awhile, the humans are clearly acting differently than before contact, but "Earth's hive-mind" that doesn't actually exist still hasn't initiated any meaningful contact. So the aliens go "Ok, this is making me kind of nervous. I'll make something a little more similar and have it poke them a little harder." So it made and sent in the dogs. The whole time the aliens thought they were giving the equivalent of a firm handshake to a planet-spanning sized organism, instead of terrorizing a collective of individuals.

At the beginning it shows the kid trying to navigate the house, and pushing stuff over to use as platforms to get to the window. Right as you start playing as the father, you have to do something very similar when pushing over the cabinet to get out of the house. It's a really cool way to show how helpless the father is in that situation. Loving this game so far!! It's amazing how the advanced color pallette doesn't take away from the stylized environment too! In inside they used the minimal color pallette to make the visuals striking with the very intense red. In this game they are playing with different color complements and still getting the same effect. It's genius.

The Spielberg one added an unnecessary element with the son and daughter, but it's not as awful as it could have been (also, Dakota Fanning is awesome and realistic). And the 50's version had the whole schmaltzy tone at the end...but both are absolutely amazing.

      @TheAdvertisement Рік тому +2

      I personally think it's a bit pretentious to make the player learn what the random balls you saw are doing to get the good ending. Like, it would've been really cool and satisfying on its own to just repeat what the Aliens are saying. Having to learn language sequences is something the game never really hints you're supposed to do unless you're already looking for it, and frankly the game isn't that replayable, so making the player go through the whole thing again and take notes is just annoying.

    • @nethalar
      @nethalar Рік тому +4

      @@TheAdvertisement Thats why its so cool. Its not something the average person will even consider and even if they do, its not something they are easily likely to solve. Plenty of games have really cool implementations of ideas such as this, but they are done in maybe a less vague or obscure way. And for the game being as short as it is, having this added level of depth and knowing its something I could have learned, would give it replay value for someone like me. I also really enjoyed the game Tunic and that had a whole language you had to learn and translate if you wanted to discover a really complex secret. Im talking converting an entire string of unknown language into something tangible like...a url link. Gets even deeper from there, being able to run audio from the link through a spectrum analyzer to discover a hidden message, possible lore teaser or direction for a sequel.

    • @TheAdvertisement
      @TheAdvertisement Рік тому +3

      @@nethalar It is cool, but it's not appropriate. This would be an awesome puzzle to go back through the game and try... if it gave a secret or extra ending. But requiring it for the main, "good" ending? That's just dumb. I'm sorry but you give the player no chance to figure it out beforehand and then give them a dissatisfactory ending because they didn't work out your hidden puzzle. It's a great puzzle, but the main ending of the game should not be locked behind it.
