Well, it turns out it really wasn't that difficult to prove. I used REW's generator to generate a pink noise signal at -8.5 dB only in the left channel, stored that as a WAV file (120s long), did the same but this time only the right channel, saved that as a WAV file, then did one for both channels, saved that as the third and last WAV file. Then I used Audacity to merge the first two WAV files into one, resulting in independent pink noise in each channel. Finally, I used Audicity's spectrum analyzer tool to look at the WAV files. The WAV file with the mono pink noise signal shows an average +3dB increase across the spectrum compared to the WAV file with independent pink noise in each channel.
see i think my confusion is in the way saying 6db gain in low end and 3db gain in highs is black and white. In reality it is a bit more varied. As far as the summing goes it will sound different depending on the gear you use and whether its in the digital realm or the analogue realm. The mention of how do you balance that. well my grasp is that you dont. you mis the stereo with a mono guide just to make sure all elements come together and nothing important is missing. so yes stereo and mono sound different but not just a simple downmixing gives a bass bump. generally bass is mixed to mono but not usually 100%, some effects are still sued to open it up including panning low bass higher bass differently. im no mixer but I know like with most things right through to the mastering chain its never simple rules and then thats it. one reason people like vinyl over digital even today is partly down to the different mastering, streaming services tending to be more compressed. However you have opened my mind to a problem in my comparing stereo speakers to mono speakers is this instantly makes the mono speaker sound more bass heavy because the mono will normally be more bass heavy. but the overall balance will change and on modern tracks can become more v shaped too. very interesting subject.
On the vast majority of mixes the bass is mixed to centre pan (effectively mono) so as to not create stereo phase issues during playback in stereo and also due to low frequency signals not being very directional, hence when you have two speakers "pushing" or "pulling" at the same time it will create the desired effect.
@@nebojsanestorovic1416 i know this is often said but reality is little tricks and effects are still applied to bass. but in a subtle way to avoid the phase issues. im just making the point that mixing down to mono is not that straightforward to say its a 6db gain and that there are many variables. but im not a mixer. im happy to learn more.
@@alanrossreviews I fully agree with you, I guess you are familiar with the old hifi speaker in phase wiring instructions, where you put the speakers to face each other and then reverse wiring on one of them or even on many AV amp setups if you flick the phase switch on the powered subwoofer ( where available) it reduces the bass due to the sub working against the speakers. There is a detail that is not usually talked about: the Tribit MaxSound Plus has a very annoying background noise at low volume, to the point that you have to raise the volume up to 19% for the music to sound above that noise. Therefore, it is not suitable for use at night in the bedroom without disturbing the rest of the family, for example. I don't know if it will be the same in the other Tribits, I haven't had them and I can't say for sure. The same thing happens with the Bosé Soundlink Flex, the background noise is so exaggerated that it cannot be used to listen to music at low volume. In general, they are speakers that are not suitable for listening to music at low volume. Of the brands that appear in this analysis, Soundcore is the only one that works well in this regard, its background noise is almost imperceptible and it can be used at very low volumes without problem; I have the Soundcore 3, the Motion 100, the Mini 3 and the XBoom, and they all work very well at low volumes, with virtually no background noise. Other models that work well in this regard (without background noise, or almost imperceptible) are the JBL Flip, Sony XB13, and the Marshall Willen, Emberton or Stockwell 2 (I mention exclusively models that I have had). This issue is not often talked about, and I think it is very important. Almost all Bluetooth speakers have decent sound at high volume, but at low volume the matter is very different.
Bro my tribit x sound go has this in Bluetooth mode at lower volumes. And when using a wired aux connection for playing games from my lap it doesn't make any sort of such hiss. It's the older Bluetooth version or hardware that seems to be causing the issue. Also the x sound plus 2 doesn't seem to have that issue according to some people I talked online
Loved the session. Not sure why you haven't done your own tuning on the motion 300 which you have on all previous soundcore. With custom tuning I find to be a decent speaker. Keep up the great work
Yeah i also find out that flow is the deepest, deeper than any small speaker than i had, You should try equing motion 300, for me its the best, stereo and really good soundstage
I managed to do an equalization that increased the volume of the motion 300 and increased the bass depth too, it really increased it a lot, as I don't have another speaker to compare with, I want to leave the equalization here for you to test and compare the motion 300 with other speakers like flip 6 and flow, I believe the motion 300 will do better. Eq: 48(+6), 125(+1), 287(+4), 600(+5), 1.07k(+5), 2.8k(+6), 5.6k(+6), 10.5k( +6), 15.0k(+2). If you liked the result of the equalization and want to make a video on your channel, I will be happy to watch it.
Another awesome video Al. I'm really happy with my motion 300, ended up getting it for 59.99 in a flash sale ages ago. I think it has improved a little over time. Very keen to try your EQ on it. As you say its silly they didn't give us a powerbank function even to 50% considering the size of the battery. Thanks again love to see you enjoying yourself in these vids
I'm also getting the motion 300 for 65 euros on aliexpress, the only place i can get it🤣 i could be just like other normal people having one speaker and be happy with it, i guess i'm a bluetooth speaker psychopath.. I enjoy the bose flex very much, it has a very unique sound outdoors, i went with my friends outside and it sounded very large, the lower mids are simply crazy, it's like having a way larger speaker outdoors, and thd clarity is great But i'm still getting the soundcore, for the eq options and stereo
On the Motion 300, the Balanced EQ preset tames its harsh treble pretty well. I’m happy with it after letting my ears adapt. I’d love to see your tuning too.
Thanks for another good one, Alan. Good explanation of the mono detail loss. I recall on the amps of yesteryear which used to feature a mono button, when switching from stereo to mono ( even with a finger in one ear) on could precieve the datail loss on stereo material. (BTW just added Shillcore 100 to my ever expanding collection, very impressed)
yup i guess i need to take a listen to the 100 at some point but really there's a never ending flow of new bluetooth speakers so impossible to cover everything. Yup the stereo to mono thing is an interesting and hotly debate subject. what i really never considered before is this gives an apparent bass advantage to the mono speakers due to the more bass heavy mono summing.
Giving that Kev & Perry go large with your hair. 😂🤭 Now, you absolutely distorted our perception. Just ordered my supercompact bag speaker, the smallest I can go with, the Spundcore Boom 2. That's tiny now. One of these now goes onto my keychain in cargo pants! 😀 Anyways, mad respect for reviewing these. Many thanks.
I'm really enjoying these videos. Giving me new things to listen for as i engage with different speakers -- things i hadn't thought of. Really appreciating that you're taking the time to really explore and explain. Thank you!
Hi Alan, I'm quite satisfied by the Tribit XSP2, the only issue is that kind of distortion generated by bass at 60% volume and above, I tried to solve it tweaking the eq but it seems it only goes away cutting too much bass. What do you think about it? Is there a solution for that? I find it really annoing, I'm thinking about returning it
I use latest Alan's eq, with a little extra highs, but sometimes gets distorted, tried to reduce bass, but to avoid distortion at all then it becomes too bass light
its the limitations of hardware so reducing bass is all you can do. you can also help by relatively lowering mids and highs but of course you will lose volume that way.
I was a little surprised how close it was between most of them at max. Plenty of options to choose from, anyway. Thank you for another outstanding comparison, Alan! 😁👍👏
You didn't EQ motion 300 as you did with tribit ☹ I was waiting with the speaker on and the app open. BTW with bass on it sounds "worse" (then they call you soundcore hater XD)
Eq for music that I use on the motion 300, it greatly increased the bass and sub-bass and also the volume: 48(+6), 125(+1), 287(+4), 600(+5), 1.07k(+5) , 2.8k(+6), 5.6k(+6), 10.5k(+6), 15.0k(+2). Try it and you will be surprised by this equalization.
Would love to hear your review on Bogasing G4 & M5. Heard reviews sayin the M5 is basically one of if nit the best $35 speaker on Amazon. In fact even sayin the M5 is is better than Flip6, Bose Flex, Marshall Emberton II, and Sony xb33. Would love to hear what you think!
Another stellar video, thanks for all your hard work! I was considering the Soundcore Motion 300 for a bathroom speaker but now the Tribit Xsound Plus 2 is also a contender based on your findings.
I'm going to use it to dissect drum beats in songs, so whichever one has the more accurate bass to make the kick drum more audible, the better. The Motion 300 has slightly deeper bass, but you said the Xsound plus 2 seemed clearer to you. Which do you think would be best for making the kick drum stand out in songs? I assume both speakers would have no trouble producing cymbals, snare and tom sounds.
Lmfao caught that joke , I bet not many others did. Had me dying. Haha “Should’ve left that out” & you left it in anway , that’s another reason why you have the best reviews I watch and enjoy no matter what the speaker , im learning something , laughing and enjoying Bluetooth speakers 🤣. I have so many other mini speakers ,but I’d to say you definitely have the best ones (I’m sure u have 25 other Mini speakers that you haven’t even reviewed or opened ). But. I have the storm box Flow and for what I use it for it’s not a bad speaker) hoping to get the x sound plus 2 Soon ! though , By the time I got the motion Plus , (I know it’s not In this video lol but happens to me a favorite mini of Mine (I consider it a mini anway ) but it had been out for Long time already. It still sounds better than most of my Others. I really like My motion plus , how would You compare it to the motion 300, I’ve wondered if I should try and get ahold of it but having the motion 100 near the same Price. Usually I don’t imagine it’s that much better ?) could be though that’s why im Askin. How Would You rank the motion 300 Bs the motion plus (in 2024) . 🍻 cheers great video
well i dont believe in ranking speakers as such because i don't believe it has any meaning. we all have different tastes and listening environments and needs. how can i say one speaker is better than another when one is good for bassheads and another is good for intimate acoustics?? 🤷♂️🤦♂️ its not like in the audiophile world where it really is all about neutrality and a common goal. they listen in fixed positions and in well treated rooms. bluetooth speakers are much more fun for me because there are no real rules. 😁 motion plus is way bigger than these smaller ones and has a better spread of sound but cant do bass at all.
Hi Alan… I’m really very confused between tribit stormbox flow and other tribit products like maxsound and plus 2… Just let me know if flow is good or should I go with other ones… Thank you, I hope you reply
Hi Alan, just curious what you think about the bluetooth speakers with active lower frequency drivers? I ordered a tronsmart t7 a while ago, and while I didn't manage to get the mids/treble to my liking. Much happier with a tribit. That saod, it was just nice looking at the underside and seeing the excursion when bass boosted and knowing it was active
Hello friend, thanks for your work. I watched the full video but since my English is terrible I didn't know which speaker was better. In general terms, to enjoy music, do you recommend the motion 300 or the tribit xsound plus 2? I would be grateful for your response. greetings.
Would you consider reviewing the Roberts Reunion bt speaker. I can't say that their previous speakers did anything for me previously, but this one has really piqued my interest. I can't see a review about it anywhere. It was available on Amazon for £70.00.
i only review what seems interesting because i dont have much time for the videos. so unless you can sell me on the idea its not really going to happen.
Bought them when they first came out. Less bass than the mk3, app wasn't ready, tilt eq wasn't able to be enabled yet. Gave my honest feedback to company who got very defensive and told me they knew i wouldn't like the bass. But they still went ahead and told me they tweaked the bass in a new firmware. They released it before it was a finnished product in other words. Anyways they pissed me off and i couldn't be arsed to mess with it again till it was ready for real release. Will get to them soon but imho they made mugs of early buyers like me.
@@alanrossreviews Fair enough, yeah from some of the vids I've seen demoing both, it does seem like a step back in sound quality but go louder. Not owned any Minirigs but they do sound really good imo, at least to my untrained ears. And especially when compared to other BT speakers in that size category and form factor. Which they don't have any competition in that front even after all these years (come on Tribit!). But yeah supposedly they added DSP in MK4 which might explain some of that. Shame the out of the box tuning isn't so great. Looking forward to your coverage for them, cheers
@@hinchlikescake7592 all bluetooth speakers use dsp. The mk3 sounds great with the sub but the sub is tuned to match the mk3 and they say there is no mk4 sub anytime soon.

@@alanrossreviews Thank you, Alan, for your honest reviews. I'm interested in your take on an accurate sounding EQ for the Motion 300, if you attempt one. I believe better sound can be coaxed from the 300 with Signature EQ . I've tried a few for listening below 70% but have trouble adjusting frequencies above 2K to make cymbals and high-frequency percussion audible but end up making highs sound artificial and hissy and vocals more sibilant.

Have you got any suggestions for a speaker / speakers you can put in stereo that is a nice detailed analytical listen that you can listen to for a long time and enjoy ? Something from the size of a soundcore boost to the motion boom ? Would really appreciate some help. Thanks for your time
And in comparison to the soundcore motion+ ? I still like it a lot but I have no other little speaker to comapare (it was much better than the JBL Charge 3)

Thank u ❤
For Tribit Xsound plus 2, Is it better to use xbass for high volume rather than your personal EQ? I'm just curious since I love your EQ though you didn't use it on 100% volume.
@@alanrossreviews In relation to Bombox 3 I believe, but 2 has already surpassed it, at least in terms of balance. In version 3.5 it gained a little more extension and maintains it even when increasing the volume. The Tribit sounds more natural and with greater frequency balance

What are your thoughts on the soundcore motion plus? Im trying to figure out the best speakers to get under $100CAD, and im currently deciding between motion 300 and motion +
Thankyou for the reviews Alan. You are unique and entertaining. Ive watched your videos on and off as the years have gone by. You indeed have become a little more strange 😂 but your smart and funny as you have always been so thankyou for the laughs good sir. I just ordered the new tribit xsound plus2. Cant wait to try it out! I had the original maxsound (whatever you want to call it , version 1 of this thing lol) , however I gave it away to a friend and have yet to replace it years later. I enjoyed the speaker but I didnt like its compression at higher volumes and overall lack of bass. Along the way I liked the Jbl Charge 5 (didnt like the mono, or muddines at high volumes though) but it did have a good listen under 70% volume. The Sony XG300 with some tweaking of the EQ also provides a decent listen under 80% volume I would say. Are there any speakers that have this neutral-ish characteristic of the xsound plus2 in a slightly larger size? Maybe as big as charge but no bigger than an xtreme? Could you perhaps make a video highlighting your 2 or 3 top picks for bt speakers in each genre of music, and make a seperate video for each genre? Maybe make it a 3-5 part video series, and just group some genres together in the interest of saving time. As you always say there is no rules when reviewing bluetooth speakers as opposed to true audiophile equipment. It would be interesting to hear your experience and knowledge in this manner as opposed to the qestion everyone asks of which is the best speaker PERIOD!? LOL Random question, whats your favorite tea? It appears thats what you drink in some videos? Lately I have embarked on a journey to find the best tasting Earl Grey. I really like Bigelow, Twinnings and Ahmad, any recommendations? Are you a tea man?

Yup the stereo to mono thing is an interesting and hotly debate subject. what i really never considered before is this gives an apparent bass advantage to the mono speakers due to the more bass heavy mono summing.
Giving that Kev & Perry go large with your hair. 😂🤭
Now, you absolutely distorted our perception. Just ordered my supercompact bag speaker, the smallest I can go with, the Spundcore Boom 2. That's tiny now. One of these now goes onto my keychain in cargo pants! 😀
Anyways, mad respect for reviewing these. Many thanks.

I find it really annoing, I'm thinking about returning it
Change the eq to traditional. It gets muddy and distorted on the xbass eq.
@@alanrossreviews thank you Alan
Don't you find it annoing too?
@@marcoska3659 i must use my own eq, they are working on a new eq for xbass and traditional

Another stellar video, thanks for all your hard work! I was considering the Soundcore Motion 300 for a bathroom speaker but now the Tribit Xsound Plus 2 is also a contender based on your findings.
the motion 300 is a different form factor of course with more options such as auto eq changing on how you position it.
I assume both speakers would have no trouble producing cymbals, snare and tom sounds.

well i dont believe in ranking speakers as such because i don't believe it has any meaning. we all have different tastes and listening environments and needs. how can i say one speaker is better than another when one is good for bassheads and another is good for intimate acoustics?? 🤷♂️🤦♂️ its not like in the audiophile world where it really is all about neutrality and a common goal. they listen in fixed positions and in well treated rooms. bluetooth speakers are much more fun for me because there are no real rules. 😁 motion plus is way bigger than these smaller ones and has a better spread of sound but cant do bass at all.

Hi Alan,
just curious what you think about the bluetooth speakers with active lower frequency drivers?
I ordered a tronsmart t7 a while ago, and while I didn't manage to get the mids/treble to my liking. Much happier with a tribit.
That saod, it was just nice looking at the underside and seeing the excursion when bass boosted and knowing it was active

Flip 6 vs X sound plus 2 in terms of clarity, details and soundstage which is better??
Flip 6 is more shreeky. Its mono so forget soundstage.
Have you looked into the new Minirigs (4)? Pretty expensive at £150 but they look like an upgrade from 3. With 10W more power and USB C.
