Hi, that’s my jacket! This is such a well made video, I’m super excited to see the auction end in 17 days.
Hey Jack! Awesome to hear from you and I’m glad you liked the video. Good luck!
May 12th 1970 I was 8 & faked sick to stay home from school in Deerfield Illinois to watch my favorite Cub smash his 500th home run. So me & Mr Cub , Ernie Banks go way back !
Great video great story !
“Let’s Play Two”
Great memory!
These things do happen from time to time. My friend found a Eric Clapton tour jacket, at a Salvation Army store.
Nice!
Hey Mike, ever heard of a frankenset? Currently working on a football frankenset. It’s been a lot of fun……and work.
Very cool!
I heard of someone buying a Vince Lombardi college jacket at goodwill. I think it went for like 30k.
I just looked it up, it was his West Point sweater. It was bought for 58 cents from Goodwill and sold for 43k.
Yep I have this one saved for later too
I juste completed a 18 year 1954 - 1971 Ernie Banks autograph run.. All his regular issue cubs cards signed and slabbed. 3yrs it took . FInished it yesterday.
Awesome!
My best sports find from Goodwill, an autographed Harlem Globetrotters Meadowlark Lemon basketball.
That’s awesome!
I bought a bulk lot of sportscards from a thrift shop that had a sealed 2017 NFL Donruss Optic mega box . Also got a Ralph Lauren blazer for $7 . Haha.
Wow!
I’ve often wondered if Thrift stores have a policy or procedure that every item goes out on the floor and employees can’t purchase. Would be really hard to enforce .
Yeah I bet they don’t
I have known a couple of people that worked at thrift stores and "they are not supposed to" go through anything but that probably doesn't get enforced.
Best find Ive had was a 2004 game issued Ben Wallace All Star Game jersey at an antique store for $20. Estimates I got were had it been game used it would be $8k-10k, but even game issued its probably $1.5K-2K, as there was likely only two made total.
Awesome!
Oddly enough, a Goodwill find is what got me back into the hobby again 3 years ago. I found a tattered box of 1989 Donruss factory set for $3.99. It was taped closed, but I bought it anyways thinking it may be full of a bunch of random cards or that it was searched with no Griffey or other rookies. After a few weeks, I finally opened it and found that it was, in fact, a complete set in excellent condition. I was curious if it was worth anything and went straight to eBay to check if there were any recent sales. I was in complete shock! It was peak covid, and confused. The next week I was digging under the steps for my collection and checking prices😂 I've been more involved in the hobby the last 3 years than I have ever been.
That’s awesome! When I dug my childhood collection out in late 2020 I found that not a single card was worth anything. 🤣
My brother resells part time, and he has found a vintage barbie he sold for over $1000 and he gifted me a regional horror VHS tape he picked up at Salvation Army that we later found was worth $500-700. And to bring it back to cards he found a box at Goodwill with a pretty clean, to the eye, 1987 O Pee Chee Barry Bonds. He hasn't graded it yet, but anticipate it will end as a 9.
Nice!
Fun fact or two…While Banks was the first African American to play for the Cubs…Gene Baker was actually the first to be officially added to their roster. They were the starting keystone combo for a few years together. Injury affected Baker’s career, but still very respectable.
Later as a coach with Pittsburgh, he became the first African American to manage in an mlb game when the manger and second in command were both ejected.
Good info!
I have never found “gold” at Goodwill yet, but six or seven years ago a coworker sent me a picture of a coveted high dollar Ludwig Acrolite snare drum. He said an employee had just put it on the shelf for $5. I told him YES and that I’d give him double the cost. (😁) . As he took it off the shelf and put it in his cart, the same employee told him that someone was coming to pick it up and tried to take it back. My coworker told them that once it is on the shelf, it is up for grabs and if they were wanting to “hold” it for someone else, they shouldn’t put it on the shelf. As he was checking out, the “intended customer” came in to buy it and wasn’t happy. He did, however, offer $50 for it. I still have that $10 Acrolite snare drum.
Great story!
I found a tin Japanese motorcycle toy from the 60s in poor condition for $4.99 and flipped it for almost $300, Not life changing but still satisfying lol.
That’s awesome!
Hey Mike. Love these stories. You should check out the story of the Masters Green Jacket found in a Toronto thrift store. The allure of the green jacket makes the story pretty cool. They aren't allowed to leave Augusta so its rare that they are ever found in the wild. Apparently the guy was looking for a green jacket for his golf tournament he plays with his buddy's. Really cool story
Thank you!
Heaven only knows what winds up at thrift stores. My favorite story is from years back, someone bought an old painting and inside it was an original copy of the Declaration of Independence.
I saw that! It was from 1989 and may have inspired the movie National Treasure?
Great find! Would be interested to hear what the auction ends at.
Good on the lad!
Have a great weekend away, Mike. 👍
Thanks John! I’ll update in my newsletter.
I noticed one of your cards in the background is upside down. 🙃 Is that for your Australian audience?
lol
Fantastic story. Lmk if that diamond kings signed Dave Stieb card is up for sale 🤟 Your ttm videos got me a signature from my favorite player Lonnie smith :)
Thanks Jacob! I’m sorry to say that I’m not selling any DK autos. Glad you got into TTM!
The only thing I buy at Goodwill is cheap binders
Good buy!
😮 WOW!
What a cool story!!! My first autograph I pulled from packs is a Fleer Greats Ernie Banks Autograph. Still one of my favorite cards in my collection!
Awesome!
great video and story mike. Love hearing this find stories.
Thanks Ray!
Hi Mike. That was a great find. It would be cool if they can photo match at some point. Thanks for sharing the story and have a great weekend.
Glad you enjoyed it, Jim!
Seeing an upside down slab in the background, presumably by the wifey, is the best game to play and Easter eggs to find. Love it
I’ve been thinking about a giveaway contest related to these.
There are actually 2 upside down slabs
@@wilsonthomy lol
