Thanks Andrew, it's become more important to diversify on the streaming platforms for sure. Spotify is running to far ahead with it. I'm just a bit surprised that other platforms isn't as artist friendly yet, in terms of letting you control your own profiles, promotion, playlists ect. Bigger platforms (still) like Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer and Amazon are way behind with artist services, and as long as that is the case, I'm reluctant to send more traffic to them. It seems like it's still uncertain if they will stick around..
Believe it or not, I've watched a ton of your marketing videos and just now looked up your music on Spotify. I dig it. It's a good mix of EDM, some rock elements in there and a lot of spacious sweeps and what not. Good stuff dude!
from what I remember, Andrew says that directing people to the release page yields a MUCH higher save rate. I've yet to experience that, personally. I also have never experienced save rates higher than 40-45% at the beginning of the song cycle (which then gradually goes down to about 25-30%). One might argue that the songs are just not that good or the audience is picked incorrectly, but those songs also have 40-43% popularity rates. What I've noticed though is that directing people to playlists yields a higher amount of streams per listener, and more streams in general.
On Spotify I care most about saves and playlist adds because they cause the most amount of long term streams, leading to a long tail after a campaign is over. It seems like Spotify's algorithm also cares about the engagement rates of a song in terms of saves and playlist adds as well. Generally going to a playlist doesn't generate a good save rate, but direct to song I tend to see save rates of 50+%, sometimes as high as 80% or 90%. Going to a playlist will generally be more like 10% ish. The tradeoff with the playlist approach is you'll get many more streams per listener. Apple Music does have saves and playlist adds, but it seems like their algorithm mostly cares about getting as many repeat streams per person as possible. If someone listens to 5 songs in a row on Apple, you're going to be on their home page the next time they open the app. This is why I think the playlists make sense on Apple where they don't for Spotify.
@@BOF303 realistically speaking, don’t you think it’s a little weird for 9/10 people that end up on the song’s page to love the song AND remember to click that plus or heart button. I never use it for one, just don’t see a point. Do you ALWAYS remember to hit the like on UA-cam videos you watch or posts on IG & FB? Yeah, me neither.
Hey Andrew, quick question. You almost always default to redirecting from your ads to smartlinks - is there a specific reason you don't advise redirecting from your ads directly to an artist's website? Hosting a website isnt very expensive (a fraction of the cost of most campaigns), would directly lead listeners to a place where they could buy your merch, benefits from more people going there more frequently (SEO), and you can set up a website page just like a smartlink. For example, an ad campaign I'm planning on running in 3 weeks will redirect to a page on my website that has spotify, apple music, youtube, and other links to the song that is being advertised for. Curious about your thoughts on this and whether a smartlink would outweigh the benefits that comes from redirecting directly to your website. Thanks for the video, love all your content!
Is there any benefit to me keeping a Facebook ad's account that I had running between 2016 - 2020. I believe I don't have access to it anymore though so just want to know if its worth the trouble trying to recover?
Usually this problem comes down to country or placement selection. Try using just IG placements and avoid Africa / Asia for countries. That should solve it!
hey andrew, we're running an engagement ad at the moment. It's been running for a week now and we've spent $150 so far. It's still learning which seems strangen= after its been running this long/ how much it costs. Any recs?
It will stay in the learning phase if your conversion tracking isn't set up. Another indicator you should look at to decide whether to keep the ad on would be Cost Per Link Click.
In my opinion a Spotify campaign ran from Meta ads is much better bang-for-your-buck than a UA-cam ad campaign promoting a music video. This is because the Meta conversion campaign will also grow your social following, and people will likely also go to your UA-cam on their own. The UA-cam ad campaign will pretty much just generate UA-cam views with no cross-over to anywhere else.
@@AndrewSouthworth thanks for taking the type to educate me on that. I’ve been struggle with ads for years now. I’m sure I’ve wasted so much money. I’ll refocus everything to Spotify campaigns then
I wouldn't recommend using Koji as a landing page in ads. Its great as a link in bio, but its not really made for this application. I'd use something like Hypeddit, FeatureFM or ToneDen instead.
Apple Music doesn't have the same kind of discovery algorithms like Spotify though, right? I have seen artist explode on Spotify without ANY marketing purely due to the algorithmic playlists. Does Apple Music have something similar?
Watched the video now and tried it - but in my version i can't exclude spotify. Only the "define further" button appears. Does anybody know how i can exclude "spotify" now?
It looks like Meta has actually recently removed exclusions for detailed targeting entirely. Not a huge deal, running it without the exclusion is still viable. Meta is constantly tweaking their platform, stuff like this happens regularly where a new feature is added or an existing feature is removed.
Depends, we just went back to Toneden, because Hypeddit has a lot of their own branding going on, so our brand would drown in some of their features. But as an individual artist, this may not be important. I also could not figure out what Hypeddit brought to the table, if you were already doing your own campaigns on Meta. But nothing against them, just wasn't a tight fit for us.
10k daily would likely be something you build up to over time, not something you'd get in one campaign. But the variance will be massive, possible only a few hundred per month up to thousands per month over a sustained period of time depending on the performance. The difference between a great and an awful campaign is about 50X.

Could you make a video showing the results of an apple music campaign you have done? I think that would be very useful
Also targeting only IOS would be probably a good idea (maybe you mentioned it and I missed that).
Very valuable stuff, love your channel - Thanks

Do you have to have the pixel?
Yeah 100%. Trying to run a traffic objective directly to Spotify and skipping the landing page and pixel fails most of the time.
Include iTunes and the targeted audience will be bigger.
