One thing I hate about TSN (and other sports channels): they have analysts that seem not to read over the rules in the various sports that they cover. Kneeing is under Rule 50 in the IIHF Official Rulebook: Kneeing is the act of a Player leading with their knee and IN SOME CASES extending their leg outwards to make contact with their opponent. The NHL uses similar language under Rule 50 of its Rulebook. Moving the leg outwards is not a prerequisite for a kneeing penalty but with four non referees, why read the rules and educate the audience if it gets in the way of a great story?
Watch the Beaudoin penalty and then re-read what you just wrote. Initial contact was made by Beaudoin's upper body not his knee. As a matter of fact watch the Gibson penalty back as well. I'm no doctor, but last time I checked your knee wasn't located on the side of your thigh. Canada was an embarassment all tournament but you are completely out of your mind if you think that the reffing in tonight's game was where it needed to be for a game of this magnitude. Multiple missed high sticks, a no call on a blatant sell job by Petr Sikora (yet a diving call the next period), and a no call on a hit to the head of Gavin McKenna late. If you are gonna put your whistle away for the McKenna hit then you sure as fuck better keep it in your pocket thirty seconds later on the Gibson hit.
@@AV-cc9ho I am talking about the kneeing calls. If you don't think those situations were not kneeing penalties (leading with your knee can mean thigh and negligeable upper-body contact), I can't help you. The Canadians foul whenever the opponent is better or evenly matched. They don't have the psyche for it. From childhood they hear you are the best, you are the best and many times they are, but not always. I won't even comment on the spectators. Their sour faces at the end of the game were the reward.
canadians have no clue how to body check. both those calls were hits that missed and cut opponents legs out. no game management. why did gibson commit to that hit?
LOL wtf are these guys talking about?! Both of those knees were knees....how about you pick the best players in Canada? How about we start talking about the problem of politics in Canadian hockey? What a joke!
Canada, what’s happening with you and your psyche? You were the epitome of sportsmanship and fairness for decades. Now you’re whining about officiating which only Canadians seem to think was “bad.” I know it’s a TSN panel doing this and not all of you Canucks. But, unfortunately, TSN is Canada’s main sports mouthpiece which the world hears from. These emotionally-compromised talking heads are giving your country a bad rap. Canada lost because your team is not good. The Czechs CLEARLY outplayed your guys because they’re BETTER. The refs had nothing to do with your player selection, your coaching decisions, and your team’s lack of shooting.
"epitome of sportsmanship and fairness for decades" What? I don't know whether laugh or laugh. Those arrogant americans were almost always the exact opposite of your bizarre claims, especially during losing or after a lost game. An alternative reality, that's where you live.
The TSN broadcast would improve considerably if they included a retired hockey official in their discussion. Nobody on that set has a clue of how to officiate a hockey game. Anyone can criticize the officials. We all do it. But having a knowledgeable person who can provide an expert perspective can help with better understanding the game. I thought Canada outplayed Czechia from the middle of the second period to the end of the game. They could not quite pull it out. Surprisingly.
They played about half of a hockey game, they were an embarrassment the entire first 30 minutes. No matter how bad the refs are, you need to play a full 60 minutes before you even begin questioning the quality of the refs.
You know… It is POSSIBLE to kill off a penalty. Embarrassing to see “professionals” giving no credit to the Czechs, little blame to their own players and staff, and most of the blame to officials. We might as well pull 4 people out of the stands and put them on TV.
It's much easier to blame the refs instead of looking at what's actually wrong...of course IIHF U20 WC is gonna be much softer than the NHL. That is so the young prospects don't get injured often and can actually go and play in the NHL. You don't want these teenagers to get season ending injuries in what is arguably the biggest hockey scouting event of the year
Embarrassing analys from TSN 🫣 Team Canada lacked discipline and responsible defense. With every goal against the players lifted their arms and looked at their teammate 🤷♂️. If that last knee-check had been against a canadien player...... Team CZE was great, well deserved win.
Knee or no knee... I believe that this particular part of play took appx. 1 second... ONE second out of total 3,600 seconds of the hockey game does NOT decide its fate... Blaming a loss on a ref is cheap and pathetic... And it does not fit the Canadian hockey spirit at all...
One foul doesn`t decide a game... It was 3:3, coming from 3:1 down and anything could`ve happened. Show some class by giving credit where it`s due. Never saw Canadians make such excuses, especially after admitting they didn`t play well throughout... "He went through the body"? Pause at 1:02 or 1:05 there was almost no body to body contact on that foul. If he`d hit the body, the leg surely wouldn`t fly off like that, would it? Boudin`s not worth mentioning, clearly a dangerous foul that could lead to injuries! Imagine McDavid being on the receiving end of such play in a crucial game! You`d ask for 10 game suspension.
He went for the body, the other player movement made the end result : half body- leg. But sure let's act like the canadian player stick out his leg to go after him...
So, I'm Czech... We tend to be really humble unlike Canadians in TSN. I think all the world (especially Europe) will laugh at you if you'll continue saying that the calls were arguable. All the important calls were incredibly accurate at least according to the European standards and the IIHF. Also, you need to consider that this is junior hockey. No one can argue the first 5 minute call. That was terrible. 5 minutes all the way. The goalie was pushed by the forward, so no-goal was correct. Even the last foul was a clear foul. They have even considered 5 minutes again, which was correct and I agree with the call of 2 minutes in the end. I understand that it is a tough loss to swallow because it happened again. But actually we played our safe game. We knew that Canadians have a bad discipline and have problems in defence.
The first call wasn't even knee on knee though lmao did we not watch the same game or replays? Also we Canadians like to laugh about how much you guys don't like being hit, both hits wouldn't have been so bad if the Czechs just took it properly
@@supershot9729 Doesn't need to be knee on knee for that call by IIHF refs. Once they see that leg out/extended and make contact, they'll call that knee every time.
I couldn't stand listening to these four last night. That kneeing call was being made all night long, to both teams. The Czechs dug in and won while the Canucks got stupid. One hotshot player had to slew foot the guy. There was absolutely no reason to hit the guy at all. The play was over, the puck was down the ice already.
This postgame was a complete embarrasment on TSN. No wonder we no longer understand hockey when this is the level of competence explaining the game to us. We need integrity and adult voices, not this.
No, officiating did not cost Canada. The officials were the same for both teams during the game and during the tournament. They did however place themselves in a precarious position to have a tough quarter final game against a very good team because of their own poor play during the tournament. They were unable to score, lollygagged and dragged their backsides against Latvia including in overtime, were totally undisciplined during the tournament, and failed to adjust to the officiating - and have no one to blame but themselves, and their coaches. There needs to be a 100% change behind the bench for Minneapolis. Not only did they play poorly through the tournament, they played so poorly the team is fortunate the Russians were not in this tournament because had the Russians been in the tournament this team might not have made the quarter finals. And on officiating, this business of players mouthing off towards the referees during the tournament needs to end. More than once player conduct could have attracted have misconducts. For their undisciplined play and behaviour I blame the coaching staff as well as the players. Practically berating officials during a game creates no love for Canadian players by the referees. Referees remember. They talk. When players berate and disrespect officials, who like everyone else on the ice are trying to do the best they can, don’t be surprised from time to time if one of those close calls are made against them, or that the opponents get the benefit of the doubt in close calls that occur in a split second. It happens. Other than the third period of tonight’s game, they played a poor tournament overall, and deserve to be out, not because they didn’t try and play hard, and not because of officiating, but because they played poorly and put themselves in a position they created. And as for the the coaching staff, hopefully this was their last junior tournament.
lol, maybe we can point at the fact that this team doesn’t have any game breaking talent. A good Canadian team doesn’t need help from refs to beat Czechia. USA dominated them, this is one of the worst all time WJC rosters by talent in Canadian history.
That was clear kneeing and deserved penalty. Canadian player didn´t even try to hit with his shoulder. Referee made right decision, these commentators must be blind.
What I find utterly ridiculous is that they hardly practiced. How can you be a coach of Team Canada and not practice? After the loss to the Americans, you don't practice? Absolutely one of the worst coaches I've ever seen.
Blaming the refs is insane. On both calls they only hit legs, not upper body. And both plays were unnecessary. Not to mention how dirty team Canada played against the USA…..
As an American from Buffalo, this game was just horrific for Canada. I did not get why Canada did not play Parekh Sennecke Cristall and Misa. They rather play guys like Pinelli Gibson Gauthier and Rehkopf all 4 should not play for Canada anymore it was just bad management overall I was puzzled when the coach benched Martone against USA but then he plays well this game that kid is going to be a stud. This team had no scoring just by watching the game against USA they could not get anything going. Bad discipline at the end and then you can't blame the refs even though these analyst were saying I find it bias but again IIHF rules are different than the NHL rules each referee sees it differently on their own accord unfortunately.
Is it me or are they not talking about one of the key factors to why Canada lost? Poor decision making made Canada lose the game. You can't afford scoring an own goal and giving up a goal when you have the puck in the offensive zone with 10 seconds left of a period🤦♂
We were playing badly all tourny really, at least in comparison to how we typically do, idk why every talking head is afraid to mention that and focus on it

Both kneeing penalties were called correctly. Neither hit made any contact with the body. If you can't break down a game objectively, maybe you shouldn't be sitting on a national broadcast panel.
I am Czech so I am biased. I can see the second foul as beeing controversial. But the knee on Sikora looked really bad. It looked like Major and game to me. Otherwise it was not all bad for Canada, for example the goalie was very good.
Canada plays like that and these "professionals" are blaming refs. You might as well just get couple fans commentating and it wouldn't be any different.
I studied all the fouls in detail and I must say that the referees were fair to both sides (both discussed fouls were clearly with the most energy to the leg - this is also whistled in the NHL) - the problem is that the Canadians were previously used to the fact that the referees did not allow them to exclude players too much (that was a known fact). I noticed that the Canadians were constantly falling and wanted to force a foul on the referees, but the referees did not jump on them. It's a shame that these "experts" in the studio have no sense of fair play.
This is the worst commentary I have ever heard. You could argue a little bit with the major one, but the last one is a penalty in every universe. Such a group of salty clowns. Unprofesional.
I tell you what... . What kind of people would boo on someone, who was brutally fouled by a Canadian player...?! How stupid and unfair you have to be. That was the biggest disgrace of the canadian crowd. Both kneeings were clear fouls. Point. And the 4th goal was a karma for all those booing. The worse and most unfair fans I have ever seen in my life. Good you lost. Shame on you.
It started with Team Canada, selecgting a terrible coach. Selected a team that has NEVER been a team! They often played as individuals! Yes the refs were poor, but the team was poor!
Horrified from the day Hockey Canada re-directed the program after losing control of the sex scandal, there should have been no way the management and coaching staff should have been put in place. Although Cameron's nepotism should have no place in our game; the players did their best. The mountain was just too high to climb and the grumbling too hard to ignore.
I believe there's something wrong in Canadian hockey from the moments kids start to play. For some reason smartness isn't promoted. The last 10 years the Canadians have been outsmarted on the ice.
🇸🇪The point is that they want to get rid of dangerous tackles in the sport. And he gives the referee a chance to send him off. Don't tackle like that, he doesn't have to. Follow the rules… even if it’s a soft penalty.
Watching it Live i didnt think it was a penalty at the end that lead to the game winner. But come on man, this team was so flawed this tournament. It didnt start tonight, it just finished there.
It’s not a knee… time to visit the eye doctor. The upper bodies barely touched. That was a desperate dirty play, and they figured they could get away with it because it was the last minute…..pretty pathetic…..Czechia has been clearly the better team than Canada for the last three years and had it not been for Bedard’s amazing play maybe they don’t get that Gold as they were not the best team in that tournament even though they won.
Not complicted folks: Cameron and management iced a team of grinders and hack and choppers like they were icing a team for a best of 7 CHL/OHL series. Just don't ice players who are Claude Lemieux when the tourney needs teams that are Mario Lemieux or Pierre Turgeon. Next year dress 6 more skill guys, you score more goals and you don't face Czechia. Oh, also don't bring Cameron back? He never had them practice which is weird? Team needed to practice, I don't buy that they had fatigue. You think CZE, SWE, FIN aren't tired? Shake up management, shake up coaching, go YOUNG. Get young people in charge and behind the bench. What a waste of two years...first time since 80s Canada leaves in quarters. Thanks Dave Cameron and thanks Brent Seabrook, this is your team, enjoy it!
As far as I understand, Finnish ice hockey referees always act professionally and are discreet. It doesn't matter if the knee tackle is to the balls or the knee, it's ugly and shouldn't be allowed.

One thing I hate about TSN (and other sports channels): they have analysts that seem not to read over the rules in the various sports that they cover.
Kneeing is under Rule 50 in the IIHF Official Rulebook:
Kneeing is the act of a Player leading with their knee and IN SOME CASES extending their leg outwards to make contact with their opponent.

Bob does not know the rules.

Canadian logic:
1st Kneeing = Thats not a penalty
2nd Kneeing = Thats a penalty, and a Major one
3rd Kneeing = Thats not a penalty
First: it's not a major
Second : is a minor
Third : is not a penalty.
Hell, that player didn't do anything, the Canadian ran into him, so why are you booing him.

As far as I understand, Finnish ice hockey referees always act professionally and are discreet. It doesn't matter if the knee tackle is to the balls or the knee, it's ugly and shouldn't be allowed.
Thats just level of hockey in Canada. Dont get mad, get better.
@tsn this is embarrassing. Tell your announcers to stop crying and get over it. Blaming everybody but themselves. Brutal and showing no accountability. Were the refs bad against USA and Latvia too??
This team sucked. Too many good players left off roster. I bet a friend $100 they would get knocked out. Bittersweet to collect. Our best runs over teams in this tournie.
Why bet your friend at worse odds than you’d get on a bet site?
@@Simonnnnnnnify Yeah sure if I was a habitual gambler.
