Spoilers for Yume Nikki's ending ⚠️ I like to think these animations take place in an AU where Madotsuki is still depressed and somewhat isolated but mentally stable enough to not want to unalive herself, and uses chaotic humor, video games and music to cope.
These animations are so nice, and just perfect for making Yume Nikki relevant post-undertale. Even though fans of Yume Nikki should have been behind UT from the start. Seems like the reverse is happening, though. I'm kinda surprised how many Undertale fans have NEVER heard of this. Can't say for sure but it wouldn't be a shock if Toby Fox said Yume Nikki was an inspiration.
