Hey John. I'm a 15 year old scout in Ireland and I've found your videos have helped me with my knots more than anythint else over the 11 years I've been at this. Every year my country has a scout competition which is very lashing based. I'll be my patrols leader and I was wondering if you could do a video on a perfect square lashing and the method for it, if thats in your line and if its convenient.

Your knot tutorials are nicely done. Very helpful. I wish you would have gone slower with the bowline around the tree though. I’m having difficulty with that one. Tying one around yourself is also one I’ve yet to get right. I’ll watch this a few more times, maybe I’ll get it. 👏👍

Hey, great content! Appreciate your videos. One suggestion if I may: I find it difficult to follow what you're doing when you face the camera. If the camera angle had the same perspective as you do when you're tying, I think I could understand what you're doing a lot more easily. The spatial rotation is tricky.

Good video. What would be examples of why I would need a water or running bowline?
A water bowline is used in wet conditions when a regular bowline may swell and bind up. A running bowline is used if you need a noose style knot that cinches down on an object. Hope this helps.
I learned this method in the army about 30 years ago, it's so much better than what I was taught as a child with the whole rabbit comes out of the hole and around the tree back in the hole. I wouldn't know how to do that one now. I did know a climber that could tie a bowline like it was a magic trick, and I don't know how it was done.
There is probably half a dozen different ways of tying it. I find this way easier to teach.
@@OutdoorAcademyAustralia Yeah, only one I use. US army: teach it so any 18 year old can learn it. That's just better preparedness. And I did, and it stuck

What’s the best knot for adding length to your hammock rope?
I have a Hennessy Hammock, comes with leads on both ends tied into what they call the “Hennessy Sock” and I need more length to reach some trees at times. Any advice would be much appreciated-And thank you for everything you’ve taught me so far! 🙏

The eskimo bowline is also nice. To tie it I bring the line clockwise around the object that Im tying to, then I use the overhand flip method to tie it. And if you want you can tie it to be a quick release.
