New Balance 890v7 - First Run

- Today, I went for a first run in the New Balance 890v7. This is a shoe that I was quite happy to pass over last year, but this year's version went through quite an update. The redesign is well done, and the use of knit materials feels as good as it looks. Shoe ending with 90 in the New Balance universe are intended for faster days, and that was certainly the case for this Revlite Ground Contact foam shoe.
But it wasn't all good. The shoe, as a faster day shoe, felt a bit stiff and unforgiving. At some points in the run, it bothered me near the ball of the foot. Other times, I felt like the shoe was too hard near the heel. But this discomforts were always fleeting. So I'm hoping that these are just break in issues. Stay tuned to see how this shoe does after some more miles.
Thanks for watching! Leave a comment to let me know you stopped by!

Just bought these today. Most comfy shoe I’ve ever put on!!!
I'm glad you enjoy!
Dude you inspire me! Bout to do my first 5K in a hour. Keep it up
Heck yeah, bro! Keep us posted on how you did!
Good luck!
Evening Vlog.....love it!
mixing it up.
I've put a few miles on my pair and I agree they are quite stiff. They are a significant departure from the 890v6 and Vazee Pace that came before it. They took over 2oz off v6 and I think that explains a lot of how this shoe feels. Also, that translucent external heel counter is reflective! TL;DR these are a 6mm version of the 1400.
ahh. i love that it's reflective. i didn't realize that!
I was thinking how these would compare with the 1400, as the 1400 seems to be the NB racing shoes, while these have the more daily runner look.
This is the first New Balance that's peaked my interest in a while. Looking forward to the next update.
New Balance has really stepped up last year and into this year
@@kofuzi yes definitely
agree with everything you said, based on trying them on in a store. I really love the design of the shoes. But it was very firm on foot. I think I'll wait for your 100 mile review of this shoe before making decision. If they soften up after broken in, then I may buy it. But if not... they're just too firm for me. I wouldn't mind own them for casual wear though 😂
They are in the firm side. We'll see if that changes over time
Great footage and epic music combo today 👍
Thank you! The music is a bit over the top, but I went with it
Snow...yup, blizzard conditions where I am. I have race tomorrow and hope the roads will be drivable
good luck!
Hi bro, I was wondering how u shoot ur videos nowadays. It is amazing!
I've been using the Insta360 One X

First! Great shoe!
Nice.
Jesus Christ: walks on water
kofuzi: hold my beer (runs on water)
Hahahaha!
Tried them in the store.Found them to be dead and no bounce.Yes very light and good looking.
that's the stiffness of the shoe i was talking about. it works out on the roads at speed.
Definitely a little stiff. I've ran in the revlite foam before so I guess I knew what I was getting. I don't think it really "breaks" in but its still fun to run fast miles in
That's what I was afraid of. But I suppose that's what it's meant to be, take it or leave it
I love this shoe TOP
it's really quite a beauty
would love to see a vid comparison of this and the zante pursuit.. they're both light weight fast shoes from nb with different design approach. 😀
hmmm. we'll see.
@kofuzi .....890v7 vs Pursuit or Revlite vs Freshfoam..... and Revlite is for sure not my cup of tea.....
I think the 890v7, Pursuit and Beacon is a good same brand three-shoe rotation. Beacon for long and recovery runs, Pursuit for regular and tempo runs, 890v7 for speedwork and shorter races.
Hello Kofuzi, 890 v8 released with a significant update !
Have any thoughts reviewing them? thanks!
Which watch do you wear these days? Need to update from old Garmin. Use an iPhone. Should I go new Garmin or Apple Watch 4? Thanks! Can’t wait to see you in Next%. I’ll bet Nike sends you a pair!!
I've been using an Apple Watch. It's not the best running watch, but it is the best watch to live with overall.
Great review. Which shoe would you recommend for a 95kg neutral runner looking for a 5k - 1:40 HM daily go to?
Pegasus 35. New Balance Beacon. Epic React.
Hi Kofuzi from Argentina.
What shoe do you recomend to a half marathon for a 70 kg neutral runner??
Thanks Man!!
Zoom fly Flyknit. Vaporfly. Zoom streak 7. Adios 4. Pegasus Turbo.
@@kofuzi Thank You...In that order?
@Kofuzi please help. I am a broke university student who prioritizes saving up my hard earned money for paying off student loans and rents, etc, than purchasing expensive shoes. I would describe myself as a beginner runner, and my usual range is 5KM. I would like to run a lot more often, and I was wondering what kind of shoes I can purchase for under $100 CAD or $75 USD. I've searched in outlets and Winners (Canadian equivalent to TJ MAXX), but I've come up short every time. I would like a decent shoe without compromising style, but I would take what I can get. I like NIKE's flyknit range but I can't afford those unless they hit the clearance pretty hard. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Keep up your great work. I admire your work ethic.
ANYONE, and not just Kofuzi, who is well versed in running footwear, are welcome to give me recommendation or tell me to lower my expectations lol
zoom fly SP or zoom fly v1. pegasus 35 or even pegasus 34 if you can find it. odyssey react v1 may also work.
@@kofuzi Thanks for your response. I'll definitely look into pegasus 35/34. I've heard that React cushion is kind of gimmicky for real running, much like the ultra boost, so I think I'll lean towards the pegasus range.
Solereview has a good round-up of inexpensive but proper running shoes. www.solereview.com/best-affordable-running-shoes-below-100/
Sixth! Thanks Kofuzi!
yo
So how is it compared to Zante Pursuit? Specs wise they seem to be in the same spot.
The ZP is noticeably softer and a little bit narrower, though the knit can stretch a lot in both shoes. The 890v7 has an elastic section inside the midfoot area that holds the tongue in place. I feel that gives the 890 a little more midfoot hold. The heel areas are quite similar. The ZP has full outsole coverage (it's clear coloured) whereas the 890 is mostly exposed foam. The 890 is about 0.5oz lighter per shoe.
my pace is 8.5 minutes per mile and I mostly run 5 to 10 miles per day. Do you recommend this one? I love how this one look though.
It could be good for your faster workout days. It would depend on what else you have in your closet. But if you are looking for a single daily trainer to do it all, I'm not sure this is it. In the NB world, id probably look more to the Beacon
When u edit out the selfie stick but don't edit selfie stick shadow🤔😂
I don't edit out anything
@@kofuzi 🤨😂
Can this shoe go any distance? Or just for speedwork?
A good question. We'll see
@@kofuzi i'll be wait rof the "after 100 miles"
this one or the Kinvara 10?
I haven't run in the 10, only the 9. I liked the everrun more than the revlite in the 890. But the Kinvara keeps putting a hint of stability in the shoes that I find uncomfortable.
Will you be trying the Sketchers GoRun Razor 3?
No
I’ve got the new Balance 880 do you no what the last two numbers mean? Is it a fast shoe or training shoe? Thanks
80 is for high mileage cushioning

Is this a spike? A racing shoe? Or a trainer?
Something in between a trainer and racer
My Achilles always hurts with exposed heel cups like these
Haven’t tried a shoe with an exposed heel cup, but not crazy about the looks. Really am enjoying running in the New Balance Beacon.
Which shoes have you been running in lately?
It's a very good shoe. Hoping that it stays good for the next version
What shoe did u you run your 20 miler in?
this one. stay tuned for monday's video
I bought a pair just because of the music.
What was the epic music playing during the running footage?
😆
splash those puddles XD!
Always
