    Hi Alannah, thanks for the video. I was just wondering if having an experience such as shadowing is a must in order to get into the university? And it may differ by the universities but do they mostly consider the grades or is it more like experience and doing good in the interview? Hoping to hear a reply back! Thank you

    Thanks for such an informative video!!! This really helps with deciding on what to do :D
    How long are you expecting to take to pay back loans (only if you want to answer, kinda personal aha)? Putting money aside, do you think doing dental school in Australia leads to a better/more fun overall experience (lifestyle-wise, etc..) compared to what you would have got in Canada?
    Also, since school starts in January, does that mean you are starting much earlier compared to students in Canada?
    Thanks for the help!

      Hey Yusuf! Thanks for watching 😊
      Good question! I am hoping to take no longer than 5 years to pay it off and aiming for 3 but we will see how that goes 🤞🏻
      I definitely think that doing dentistry in Australia has given me an amazing experience and lifestyle, to the point that if I were to go back in time and were given the chance to study in Canada or Australia I would at this point choose Australia again. I think that the life experience is truly worth it. I also feel that the schools in Australia give really good school-life balance which I am not sure is the same in Canada.
      And your last question depends on when you apply/are accepted. If you apply in your third year of undergrad (which you can do), you would be able to finish your undergrad in 3 years and start dental school in January of what would have been your 4th year of undergrad! On the other hand, if you apply during/directly after your 4th year of undergrad you would be starting a few months after Canadian dental school as they would start that September of that year and you would begin the following January. I hope that's not too confusing.
      But this was one reason I chose Australia over the US, because I applied in the summer of 2017 and was accepted in October 2017, I was able to start in January 2018 rather than September 2018. Hope this helps and didn't confuse you more lol

    I belive the real decision comes down to: 1) re-apply to canadian schools or 2) attend australian dental schools.

    Amazing video and I’m so happy for you that you’re graduating soon 🥳. I’m considering it seriously but the only thing is the big amount of debt. I really love the career and prefer it over medicine but I’ve heard that dentists make 120k on average which will put a big burden on me after graduating with 400k debt . I would be so happy to hear your opinion

    • @alannahanita-marie
      @alannahanita-marie  3 роки тому

      I think that if you really want to do it then it is worth it, and if you work hard enough after graduating you will be able to pay back your loans in a reasonable amount of time (If only I could get back to you after years of working lol). 😊 Whether I studied in Canada or in Australia I would have loans to pay off, it will just take a little extra time and work for me this way.

    Have you heard about 5 year programs like Griffith U and how they can give 1st year course credits for undergrad courses already taken? Do you have an idea of where you want to work in the future? If Canada, which province?

    • @alannahanita-marie
      @alannahanita-marie  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Yacov! Yes, I have heard of that and I'm sure its on a case by case basis depending on whether the undergrad class is equivalent to theirs? It would be so good though!
      I will definitely be working in Canada and I am currently trying to decide between Ontario or British Columbia, we will see! 😊

Did you find the marking in AUS fair? What happens if you do poorly? Is there remediation/safety nets rather than having to redo the entire year?

      @@yacs746 That's amazing! I hope you get in! If I knew about the option earlier I would have considered the 5 year programs as well. I definitely understand that concern and it's a good point to bring up! I don't think it's impossible to get into a specialty in Canada but obviously much more difficult. But yes, like Kaho mentioned, there are other options like applying to the US, and we do know someone who got accepted in the states for prosthodontics! I don't think I am missing out mainly because I can't see myself specializing directly out of dental school. If anything, I hope to work for a few years to truly see what I like before considering a specialty. 😊 It depends on whether you really want to specialize or not!

    Hii, I'm an undergrad student in florida and was interested in applying for dental school in Australia, what are the requirements to join because in my school there isn't a major related to dentistry, I only did the required classes to apply for dental school in the united states, but I want to know if it's possible ti head towards Australia

      Hey Javier! You can find all of the pre-requisites for each dental school in Australia on OzTREKK's website: oztrekk.com/programs/dentistry/
      I feel like most of the required courses for dental schools in the states will also apply to what you need for Australia :)
