- What is the difference between lack and lack of?
My students are often unsure of how to use the word "lack" properly. In this video I will guide you to discover the difference between lack and lack of for yourself! I will show you lots of examples and give you a chance to practice at the end.
The city I grew up in lacked entertainments therefore I was bored to death while living there growing up.
The lack of entertainments in the city I grew up in caused me made a decision to move out back in the day. 😊
Nevi, you got it!! Wonderful job! What city are you from and what is your first language?? Would you like any feedback on your grammar? ☺️
@@YourFavoriteEnglishTeacher: I grew up in a small city named Cirebon, it’s about four hours from Jakarta, the capital city is Indonesia. It’s an old city, the majority people who live in that city is elderly people, so it goes without saying it’s completely boring, so I decided to move out when I was 15 y.o to the capital city to continue my education. 😊 My first language is Bahasa Indonesia. Btw, have you been to Indonesia before? And regarding to a grammar correction, of course, I’d love to Amy..I’d be so happy if you’re willing to do so. 😊 Thanks a bunch 😁
@@nevisuristio7938 wow! I love that I can connect with you from thousands of miles away! I am glad that you were able to move out and continue your education. I have never been to Indonesia, but I have heard wonderful things about it :)
As for some very small grammar things, you mentioned above that your city lacked "entertainments." The word entertainment is non-count, so it cannot be plural. I have a video with common non-count nouns in this video (this is a very common error!): ua-cam.com/video/RHhi0Cd-xHc/v-deo.html
and you also mentioned that the lack of entertainment (good use of lack!) "caused you made a decision"
the word "cause" can be confusing, as it is followed by an infinitive (not a conjugated verb ex. "made"), so you would say "caused me to make a decision." I have a video with the grammar for causative verbs here, which further explains this grammar. ua-cam.com/video/NPsu-Wjh8lE/v-deo.html
At this point I am "nit picking" you and your English is absolutely lovely!! I just like to help where I can, if that is what my students are looking for. Have a wonderful day!!
@@YourFavoriteEnglishTeacher : Thank you so much Amy, I do really appreciate it. Yeahh, as a learner, it's really beneficial to get those corrections, therefore we can learn from them.🙂
