Dawn French is not the last surviving member of the principal cast. James Fleet, who played Hugo, also is still alive.and is five years older than Dawn French.
I speak as an American - Vicar of Dibley was by far the best sitcom ever seen in our country, and it is millions and millions of miles ahead of anything we've done. There have been love affairs between countries and individuals: America loved Jackie Kennedy, we loved Diana, and we loved Alice too - I can't believe it's not butter.
@@FactsVerseUK I can't do that. They were all so good! The silly old lady that was a ghastly cook, but you loved her, the old men just being themselves, the young couple in love and, OH, what the heck, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER!!!!

I love this series. I have a boxed set of all the episodes and loved how at the end of each one, the vicar and Alice would be having a cuppa while the vicar told a joke and Alice would NEVER "get it"
@FactsVerse UK has to be when Gerry oversees the Dibley Faire and thinks Alice's cousin, Reg Dwight, is Elton John, and the whole village becomes Elton John fans.
Yeah I used love when she told Alice jokes that she wouldn't get at initially. I loved how Letitia used to make weirdest food concoctions but no had the heart to tell her she couldn't cook. The Easter episode where she had half of the parish acting as Easter bunnies upon her death and the episode where Geraldine eats like three Christmas dinners with dessert and had to use a wheelbarrow to get home were two of many of my favorite episodes.

I am an American but wish we could come make sit coms like this. Sorry to see almost all of the characters have died. Now I'm going to start watching the series again
I never knew Trevor Peacock wrote songs, especially "Mrs. Brown" for Herman's Hermits. That was a big hit in the US when I was a kid. Trevor Peacock and Liz Smith were both in the 1999 version of "A Christmas Carol" with Patrick Stewart. Liz Smith was Mrs. Dibler, Scrooge's charwoman, and Trevor Peacock was Old Joe, the rag and bone man.
It is shocking that only 2 are left! Another sitcom, Dad's Army, featuring older actors, they have all passed and did so some time ago, but to have only James Fleet and Dawn French still alive is sad. Especially Emma Chambers who died so young.

Dawn French also played the 2nd Fat Lady in the Harry Potter Series. One of the funniest scenes in the Vicar of Dibley was in the Animals episode when she and Alice talk about Alice's pet budgie named Carrot.
