I visited the museum in Mulhouse as a child and seeing all the Bugattis there got the impression "Bugatti must have been a really common and widespread car brand back in the day". I kind of wondered why they had totally disappeared at that point. Only much later I learned that Bugatti has always been just a luxury and racing brand and never really got into mass production, and the museum in Mulhouse had just acquired an exceptionally large number of Bugattis.
Fun fact: Bugatti's streamlined cars helped to inspire Sir Nigel Gresley, the Chief Mechanical Engineer for the London & North Eastern Railway, to design his famous Class A4 4-6-2 Pacific type steam locomotives, which also includes the Mallard, the fastest steam train in the world.
From 1933 to 1937 Bugatti built a number of petrol railcars for French railways État, Alsace-Lorraine and PLM. With the economic crisis there was not much of a market for luxury cars but there was a movement towards fast, small, lightweight unit trains such as the Flying Hamburger in Germany or the Pioneer Zephyr in the USA. Bugatti used the 8-cylinder petrol engine developed for its luxury cars and combined that with a hydro-mechanical transmission and specially developed 8-wheel bogies in a streamlined body. The driver sat in a tiny little cab on the roof above the engines. Some of them ran until 1958, but in the end they were considered uneconomical and expensive to operate and maintain, while offering only a small seating capacity. ua-cam.com/video/2QV4wy7rGt8/v-deo.html
The type 57 sc was actually called Atlantic because one of Jean’s friends, who was a pilot, crashed his plane in the Atlantic Ocean, and when Jean found out about it, he decided to pay his respects to him that way.
I would love to see a evolution of Formula one cars from every major regulation change to every championship winning cars of every team + love ur vids keep the incredible vids up
Sad fact : The Bugatti Type 41 Royale was made by Ettore to honor his brother's death after he committed suicide. His brother was depressed after World War II after the Germans destroyed his sculptures.
Yes thanks you so much for this! Also best out of Lamborghini Koenigsegg and Ferrari for last. Also I hope part 2 has the Chiron Supersport 300+ the fastest production car in the world with actual proof of its top speed.

The price you paid for a type 35 in the late 20s, a racing car you could drive on the road, would have bought you a large house in central London.
thats a lot of money
