    Haven’t done any astrophotography in years. Used to have just a 4” Mak-Cas that I hooked my Nikon up to, and it took stunning photos of planets and larger deep sky objects. Got an 8” Dob a while ago, and waiting for it to warm up a bit before lugging it out.
    Nice channel. Thanks.

    I got all the attachments for my Orion XT8. Using an older canon rebel t1i. I was unable to get the camera to focus on the moon unless I attached my Barlow. Got some nice shots, but would love not be so zoomed in due to the Barlow. I tried to work with the connections to get a 25mm lens to attach, but nothing would fit together right. Only the Barlow would work. Seems like the camera needs a telescope lens attached to get it to focus with this setup. Any suggestions to fix this problem?

    Question..I have a 8 inch Dobsonian, with the T ring etc etc, and I am going to buy a second hand DSLR to attach to it. Now, what second hand one should I go for ? because there seems to be a massive selection out there with all varying specs..is it best to get one with the highest pixel count on the detector? like there's 18 megapixels versus lower ones around 12 and so on, or is the lenses inside more important..I really need some advice on this..too many options....

    • @AmateurAstronomyStormchasing
      @AmateurAstronomyStormchasing  4 роки тому

      It is daunting when first looking at cameras hah. Higher megapixels do make a difference in the long run, but 18 is just fine. Most newer cameras have higher mp counts anyways. A good entry level Canon or Nikon is hard to beat, such as a Canon T3i or Nikon 3400. Whatever brand you start with, just be sure to stick with it!

      Thank you! And yes, motorized mounts are mostly for deep sky objects, but are also very helpful with capturing the planets as well. But without a motorized mount it is certainly possibly to get some great images of the planets and definitely the moon. Using just my dob I have managed to get some fairly decent shots of some planets and the moon... a lot of the magic comes from stacking and editing!

      Yep, 90% of the reason I sold all my astro gear about 10 years ago. Light pollution was already bad before then, and getting visibly worse, year on year. Even if I get to a dark area here in central Scotland, it's surrounded by orange glow bubbles from the towns and cities. Being a relatively small island, it's hard to get far away from any large town or city in the UK, without being in the ocean.
