I own a 2020 Ford Explorer and I’m dealing with the exact same problem. I replaced the front half shaft speed sensor hoping that would fix my problem but no luck.
I live in the Chicago area
How can I contact you to find out where’s your shop located?

The manufacturers are being squeezed tighter and tighter by the EPA with new fuel economy and emission standards forcing them to implement all of these expensive systems in an attempt to meet those standards. Its getting to the point that even if the government doesn't mandate EV only vehicle production we will be forced into them anyway because ICE vehicles won't be viable. Its sad, and infuriates me.

Nissan had a tsb for clicking from front axles. The fix was to put grease the splines. I have people who own Nissan reach out all the time and say my video on that tsb helped them and fixed it. I did it to the explorers at the dealer. Fixed it.

Why does this issue happen? I noticed mine is slightly disconnected and the transmission pan has oil on it.. car has 45k on odometer so it should be covered under power train. Still shitty. Love the vehicle but quality is shit.

Thanks for this, I see a lot of front axle boots coming apart also. Our DPW sends the police vehicles to Ford for warranty replacement, however, I’ve been waiting for the new units to get written up for that “clicking” you mentioned. Thanks to you, I now know I can grease the axle splines to repair. When I worked for Lexus, the GX 470’s used to bind the rear drive shaft. At a stop, the truck would sometimes lurch forward as the shaft splines moved. Same repair idea there. Thanks again 👍👍

I used to be a t case engineer. Lots of silly things done for minute fuel economy gains. Thanks CAFE.
The only worthwhile savings imo were disconnecting at the hub like a super duty. Partial driveline disconnect on that explorer obv. Wasn't worth it for 0.2 mpg. We used to say the same thing about that stupid fa actuator on gm trucks.

Bought a 2020 explorer a little over 2 years ago. After about 3 months, the AWD system started having issues. Vehicles won't allow cruise control, stability control, and can't change the drive mode. I changed the half shaft speed sensor, and it was okay for a day or two, and it's still been having the same issue. Would this possibility be the root of the issue? I really dont want to pay ford $200+ for a diagnostic. Thanks for the help.

Hello Rich: Thank you such for the educational and informative video on the Ford AWD intermediate shaft + the TSB. I personally find this cat & mouse + hidden BS extremely distasteful & sneaky. What I don’t understand is why the manufacturer sends you to school & you see this crap on a daily basis & they refuse to listen to you ( the mechanics on the line every day ) but they still keep pumping out this garbage every minute of the day & they know that it's defective. Rich since our are now on the other side of the desk I know in my heart that you feel for some of your customers because of this kinky crap. In all of these vehicle manufacturers I wish some of these supposed engineers would get off their high horse & remove their heads out of there butts & finally listen to someone. Just because you may not have an engineering degree doesn't mean that you don't know what you are talking about. Terrific video sir, God Bless, & my best to the family. TMP from N.J.

It's a bureaucracy issue, it takes a bunch of steps, meetings, approvals, etc. to make any running changes. In addition, they typically want to use up whatever stock they have, even if it's problematic, rather than toss it and start fresh. Another Ford channel pointed out that he was buying the redesigned 5.4 3V cam phasers from Ford parts while brand new trucks were still being shipped with the old ones. I get that they'd lose a bunch of money dumping potentially thousands of parts, but sticking customers with parts that they know will fail or cause customer complaints is kind of crappy of them. They don't seem to think it matters as people keep buying F150s, but the fact that they had to drop all passenger cars except the Mustang should have given them a clue that quality problems turn customers away. They claim it was lack of demand for cars, but Hyundai/Kia, Toyota and Honda are selling lots of cars. The real reason is people had too many bad experiences and walked away. Same for GM. Chrysler has dropped the 200 and some smaller models and only runs the Charger/300/Challenger platform. It's hard to tell if they'll ever invest in a redesign on those aging models as once they go small turbo to meet EPA regulations, the reliability will drop even more.

I have a 2021 that is leaking on the driver's side intermediate shaft to the driver's side inner cv axle. It is enough to sling grease radially off the axle. Dealership refuses to warranty saying that leakage is normal. I feel that any cv axle leakage is not normal. What can i say to make my point?

I don't own a 2020 explorer but do service an awful lot of police cruisers that had the FADA now they don't .....I'd would be pissed if I paid for something(the disconnect) then someone took it away from me and I was not compensated for the loss of functionality!.

Just bought a 2020 ST. We love it, I called ford to ask for history of out of the ordinary maintenance. They said the only thing that was out of the ordinary oil changes, filters and rotations was that the transmission Was hesitating a bit but it was 0.8qt low on fluid. So after adding fluid the issue hasnt come back. I wonder if this was why the fluid was low. I dont see any oil anywhere under the car very clean 50k miles. Subscribing to learn more. Hello sir and many thanks for all the effort you offer.
I have 2021 Explorer Limited 4WD, I have updated all the systems including the AWD module to the latest version without noticing the issue you're discussing now.
Besides, I don't have the mechanical issue of leaking oil till this moment (the vehicle has almost 30K miles in it).
Will this software update makes any issue, keeping in mind I didn't do any wire cut as indicated in the TSB you mentioned here.
In case this software update makes any problem, how can I solve it or can I downgrade it?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm glad you mentioned the Chevy trailblazer/envoy/rainier/ascender (all GM) they all used this set up as well and also had lots of problems with the actuator/axle disconnect. If you had to replace the front differential or oil pan on one of those with the inline 6 it was a pain in the ass as the front differential was bolted to the side of the oil pan and an intermediate shaft would run through the oil pan. This sounds like a case of engineer Johnny.

Watching all of your videos about the oil leak related to the hub actuator, i pretty much already know where its coming from 😁. What are the chances the Tamiami service center knows about the TSB? The TSB focuses on the dash wrench light and not on an oil leak but i suppose the techs will find the TSB when searching for parts to fix the leak, correct? Ford corporate deserves the loses 📉 for not following up on the TSB & not acting on it correctly, I also had the same issues with Daewoo America when they was having issues with 98-00 Daewoo leganza, & Lanos airbags throwing codes all over ,there fix was replacement of the airbags & the airbag module,.....guess what the very same issues was happening to the vehicles with the replacement parts ,turns out I was right, it was the fuses that was defective & tarnishing & turning black & created resistance 🤣🤣🤣 literally a cheap 50 cent fuse that was imported from Japan was the issue & they spent thousands on each vehicle, I just replaced the fuses with the US made "LF" little fuse& the issues totally disappeared, they also had issues with the camshaft sensors being defective & causing codes as well as actual electrical fires 🔥 & lead to a federal recall being issued, I found the issue originally when it happened in the prototype Daewoo leganza Black& White edition with the 2.2 liter Holden built engine, it was also happening on the 2.0 GM /Daewoo built engines as well ,the part that was failing was made in Mexico by Delphi,GM 10456506, the ones made in USA didn't have the issues as well as Korea & Australia,Daewoo America corporate actually screwed over most of the customers in the US & Canada, meanwhile back in Korea it was handled correctly, my test vehicle was one of the first ones to actually have the electrical fire 🔥, but I actually extinguished it with a bottle of Coca Cola before any major damage was done to the timing belt & cover from catching fire ,the harness was destroyed as well, I still kept & got all the original defective parts ,these same sensors also failed on GM model vehicles, as well as Isuzu ,Suzuki,Holden, Opel ,Vauxhall& even Honda vehicles that used sensors from the same plant in Mexico
