The Featherweight was an absolute bargain. A white machine can be very hard to find. One was selling here in Tassie on Marketplace for 1200 dollars. I am very envious 😂. Regards Sharee.

I recently learned about you through the Roxie sisters. I am a journaler but enjoy their journal of stitchery videos. Years ago I did embroidery, cross stitch, crewel, and crafty sewing. My interest has been renewed. Since cataract surgery my vision is better, which helps. I love paper and fabric. Could you please tell me how you soak your linens or point me to a video of yours. Your videos are enjoyable and I look forward to them. Blessings.

I was down south (Invercargill, New Zealand) a couple weeks ago and one of the op shops had unpopular doilies in bags for $5 a bag. I brought one for my neice to start her slow stitching journey. About 10 in the bag, but good way to move on spares. Or ones you don't like.

Lovely hauls! You get different designs than i normally see here in the U.S. As for the Singer, i would just look at it as a gift from the Gods and not even bother with what it might be worth. Don’t make it easy to steal when it’s on display, though. 😊😊😊

The Featherweight machine has a devoted bunch of avid collectors……she says pointing to herself…….i got what I thought was a bargain during that dark period of isolation in 2020….paid about $600.
Mine came in a carry case with all the accessories, and is black.
Works like a dream, such a great sewing machine. Aluminium body thus the light weight. The motor is a little different to most in that it requires a special lubricant to work. If you Google it, you will most likely find a shop in the US that still sells all the accessories and oils and manuals so restoration of your machine would be quite easy.
I adore the vintage singer machine, I have this as well as a hand crank model and my mother’s 1960s machine that I learnt to sew on. Vintage machines being non computerised are easily serviced by the owner, not much can go wrong with these fabulous things.
So yes in short, you got quite a bargain, if you wanted to run it, check out the tutorials from the featherweight shop in the US, so you don’t burn out the motor……that would be a complete disaster.
Your shop would be my happy place, I am from Melbourne so sadly not going to be a regular drop in but I do enjoy your snippets of life.
( oh and about 8 years ago I too had to place my mother in care, unfortunately our family is very dysfunctional so it was a stressful awful time for me. She is doing well, it was the right decision and happily due to some fantastic outside professionals getting Involved the stress was reduced and we are all managing not to loose our minds in navigating this time of our lives)
I am now into my sixties, so I do understand where you are emotionally right now, it’s a great period of change, but what woman does not go through all the changes all,the time?
I am now retired, living in the country at the base of the great dividing range, having moved here from the seaside suburbs.
I do love my patch of bush, but only after a lot of emotional ups and downs…….it does settle down.
Well if you are still reading this I congratulate you, I only meant to tell you about your fab find.🤣🤣🤣🤣 oops.

Lovely haul! And I’m a believer in the restorative benefits of the sea too! It makes me sad to think of your box of items you won’t use or sell - I’ve found happy uses even for synthetic fabrics in my stitchery projects whether it’s making Suffolk puffs (some of the flimsier fabrics work beautifully) or using them to add texture or wrap things in some of my Fleur Woods inspired pieces. Here in Melbourne I live close to a place called the Reverse Art Truck and I can access amazing fabric samples from all over the world (I share haul videos too) and I used to only get cottons and linens but now I get a much more diverse range of fabrics as they inspire my creativity such as breaking down on woven piece into fibres to use. So excited Fleur will be visiting with you! I’m so grateful to be attending her retreat again in the southern highlands next year and also have just signed up for a Melbourne workshop this year! Woot! Cheers, Christine

Don’t worry the fabrics / textiles I buy that don’t suit me are passed on to others who can appreciate them. I just don’t include them in my kits or products I sell. I really like to only offer things I would love to buy.

How exciting your new shop! I am also obsessed with doilies and old linen every since I inherited my Mothers doiles many years ago.( My Mother passed away many years ago). So I kept them and then started looking in antique stores for more to make things with. Then I found your channel! Thanks for sharing Bec love your inspiration.

🤗❤ to you! I'm 53 and the last 2 years have been so topsy turvy with my sons going to college, starting new jobs, one is engaged and planning a wedding. The other is starting a new job while finishing his Master's. It goes by so fast! BUT, after a season, there will be new events to look forward to and new little ones to help take care of.
I feel your pain with the tension in your neck and shoulders. I get it too when I'm stressed or working something I'm really focused on.
Try not to get too bogged down in what has past. The future is BRIGHT!
    😁

Wow Bec .. great video. First up I was eyeing off the featherweight as soon as you were in your sewing room. I have a friend that collects them and I think you got an absolute bargain. Same friend and I have been collecting and swapping vintage ribbons, lace, tags and buttons for about 20 years now so I also have a lovely personal collection. Your sewing basket was a wonderful haul plus your garage stuff! I really can’t wait for the new shop to open so I can come in and admire all your little treasures. Nothing like a dip in the ocean to clear the mind. Take care .. xx

Already received email from Fleur (on her mail list) and put my name down for the Newcastle workshop. Look forward to being able to register once you sort out a price. I assumed the workshop would be at your new shop ?

Having gone through this already(my late 30’s), you seem to be doing it the right way. You are owning your feelings and swimming out the blues and anxiety. Your new channel will be a great outlet as well. Love seeing your surroundings. Love your haul. ❤❤❤❤❤

I'd say you got a real bargain with the Featherweight. How exciting to have Fleur coming to the shop later this year! And what a load of treasures you acquired recently! I'm a bit jealous. I've never seen those narrow oblong embroidered linens - tray cloths? - that would work so great in the type of needle book you make. I wonder if that was something popular in Oz that never made it here to the States. Oh, and all those hankies - I've become something of a collector of those lately too. 😁

    • @Sewbecurated
      @Sewbecurated  4 місяці тому

Isn’t it funny how different linens were popular in different places! I think the little rectangular doileys are called sandwich tray doileys. They are not as easily found as round ones - that’s for sure!

There are a couple of FB groups, one is Vintage Sewing Machines Australia and New Zealand. The other one is Vintage and Antique Singer Sewing Machines and Products, this is predominantly US based. I have my mother’s 1954ish?, Singer which has the knee control, so I struggle to use the knee lift on my machine (muscle memory). I also have my little Singer machine, a gift in 1965 when I was 11.

Is it missing the bobbin or the bobbin case. The latter is expensive to replace.

It is missing the bobbin case but I think I can afford to invest in one after the great price I got my machine for!
