I love color all colors! I love swatching all of my inks, pens, pencils, gels, pastes, glitters, etc, etc, etc. I like your idea of the ring, it reminds me of the Pantone Ring Swatches. Love your canvas. You’ve given me so many great ideas! Thank you for making this video!
Simply gorgeous!! I LOVE that butterfly canvas. The wax added that special "ZING" to the butterflies. Thank you for showing how you swatch your ink colors. Your videos are always amazing. I generally don't catch the lives, but I do watch them on the replay. 🦋
A couple of years ago I did all my SSS inks just like you have, as well as my Gina Ks. I did them with an acrylic block which I keep in a box with extra homemade swatch strips. I now have a bunch of newer inks so you have motivated me to do a new batch. I keep them on a ring in the drawer with the ink. Thanks for the inspiration.
I’ve been wanting to swatch for ages but was worried about how long it would take. I’m glad to hear it wasn’t too long. The butterfly wall art is beautiful! Also something on my to do list but it always looked so intimidating. Thank you for showing how you did yours. 🦋🦋
I label everything with my P-touch. In fact it lives on my craft station so that I can grab it whenever I am labeling my stamps sets in my inventory book and in my stamp filing drawer. I use it to label all the drawers that hold my sequins, and embellishments. If it can be labeled I will do it😀
I love those inks too and your swatches are great. The butterflies are gorgeous. I never would have thought to use the ink spray to color a canvas but it turned out so well. ❤️
I had this butterfly embossing folder on my cart n just left it there now I know exactly why! I needed this inspiration 😍 your blending is absolutely beautiful!
That canvas is amazing!!! Now I want one of those!! And I've always been drawn to the color green! I have no idea why!!! I love all of your videos. You really do inspire us to make beautiful things! Plus, as I have said before...your bubbly and positive attitude makes me yearn for more of your videos! Thank you for always sharing your crafty ideas!
I'm always looking for ways to swatch my inks and paints, and you certainly delivered in this video. Thank you! Also, THAT BUTTERFLY CANVAS! It's so beautiful, and clever. I know what's going in my craft space soon, and probably in my friends', too. 🙂
This is absolutely gorgeous! I love it. Your butterfly canvas is awesome! Swatches are great too but can’t get over the beauty of your artwork. It will look beautiful in your space🌈
I have been inking in a notebook, but, like you said, I don’t really refer to it much. I love the swatch system from SSS & am anxious to get some ordered.
Hi Nichol! I found you recently through flosstube and then this video popped up in my feed. I've been a card maker for many many years and recently have taken a break from it because I rediscovered my passion for cross stitch. I love the butterfly canvas you made in this video! I'm a butterfly lover anyway and love the rainbow effect you made with the butterflies. I'm going to attempt something similar, but maybe in a shadow box, soon. I have the same label maker and love it. I also like to have everything labeled and like the way it looks. Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
Love the butterfly canvas! I will make something similar for a friend... so will now purchase the Tim Holtz gilded wax. Thanks for the great idea and your video. 🦋
I love your swatches, and especially your butterfly canvas. I’m planning to swatch all of my inks onto a ring system because the binder doesn’t work for me as well as I thought it would. I find I need to pull them out of the little pocket and I’m constantly cutting my cuticles on the plastic. I think I’m going to add a double stamped image as well since I seem to do that quite often with my Misti. (And maybe a blended area too?). As to your labeling question, I have been told I have nice handwriting but prefer to use either my label maker or, when doing a large project like this, I just do it on my computer, run the whole sheet of paper through my big Xyron, and use my trimmer to cut them apart. I can type much faster on the computer so it takes less time. Thanks so much for sharing this. I’d love to see how y swatch your Zigs, if you do, and which of the new Zig colors you recommend. I have no idea how to even find out which ones are the new ones.
Nichol, I think that the color swatches are such a great idea and yours turned out so pretty. Love, love, love the butterfly canvas; I think it has wonderful color and movement and would look great wherever you put it. I made a 3-d beach canvas years ago when we lived on the South Carolina coast--I enjoyed having it while we lived there but felt it wouldn't be quite right here in AZ so I passed it on to a SC friend.
The swatching was inspiring, I think I'll try the ring idea!! The canvas is gorgeous!! I have done collage frame art with quilling and punch art, as well as shadowbox art with die cuts, but never art on canvas. I added it to my crafty bucket list!! Thanks for sharing your talent and inspiring others!!🥰🥰
Thank Nichol for posting this!!! I absolutely love the swatches and the butterfly art!! Wow!! I need to make one!!! It is so gorgeous! You are so creative!!
You are such a chicken! I'm teasing you, I hope you know that. I would not want to make that mess in my home either. I have been watching your videos for several years now, and I love your videos. You explain all your steps really well. Please keep making videos for us all. Thank you for all your hard work, you make, making a joy! Thank you Nicole ❤
OMG, Nichol - LOVE this project !! I do keep ink swatches in binders, but I also have found that I really don't use the binders when choosing inks. And I also do not have ANY artwork or projects on display in my craft area. SO I think I will do a similar project that you have shown us here..... it's just fantastic!
I swatched my inks (I don't have very many) and put them in binders and I never open it either! I think I will try your method and see if it works better for me. I plan on buying the SSS inks slowly over time in groups of three so it will be easy to add the swatches to the binder ring as I add inks to my collection. I also did some butterfly canvas projects for my bathroom about seven years ago. Nothing as gorgeous as yours though! I just chose lots of different scrapbook papers I had in my stash and used a butterfly punch and lined them in rows on my painted canvases. I did two of them and hung them vertically. They still look pretty good!
Your project is so lovley!! and all this time i did not know about the swatching from SSS i just received my last set of the 60 and that is a great idea!! thank you so much for all your wonderful inspiration each week and I started X-stitching again
This canvas is just beautiful, Nichol. I do swatch my inks. It helps when I'm trying to match cardstock or Copic colors. I use the ring system too. If it needs a label, I use the label maker. My handwriting isn't great. Sometimes even I can't read it. LOL
I love this swatch set! I try to swatch because the labels are a little incorrect. I have tried the binder but noticed I never open the binder. So, I’m planning on changing that and want to try a disc bound system because rings are difficult for me to open. This project is gorgeous, too. Thanks for sharing 😊💜🎨
and oh, yes - I will be working on making new ink swatches to keep on a ring..... it looks SO much easier & quicker to use when choosing your colors! .
I absolutely am inspired by this project. It's so beautiful and now I have an excuse to get some guilding wax! Lol! Also, I wad swatching my oxide inks and labeling them last night. When I was finished with one set I looked at and realized how happy it makes me to be organized. Lol, it's the little things.
How many colors of hearts do you have? Love it. I love doing art on canvas using different mediums. I will have to try this butterfly one. Thanks Nichol. ❤️
I have the same label maker. I’d like to know how to make labels within “wasting” so much tape in between the different labels. Ur heating the glitzy stuff when you’re heating the butterflies over it; that’s why it wouldn’t come off ur block. How many of what sizes did u use? Would u please list the products I use? The guiding & the spray u use on the canvas u sprayed “outside” & the size of the canvas size?
Love watching all you do, QUESTION??? I bought print pink posh shaker pumpkin & acorn I was wondering if there would be anyway you would make the shaker out of one of them ??? The way the die is cut I can’t figure it out ????? Or forward me a video of one being put together?? Thanks soooo much !!
What a wonderful project! I would love to create one to hang in my new craft studio. The new inks from Simon look luscious. And yes, I think getting organized in the beginning before the swatching begins is the way to approach getting it done in a quick and efficient way. Even when I create a card, if I get everything ready and in order of process the card comes together easier. My favorite color of ink? Gosh, it's hard to say, because I simply love all colors. I tend to decorate with neutrals because I'm originally from the southwest. I now live in coastal South Carolina so I tell people my decor style is Coastal Carolina meets Southwest Sonoran *Haha* cools and warms do go together. Did I hear you say you keep your inks in your Ikea drawers rather then put them in one of the stand up organizers? Are there dividers inside the drawers? If there is a video that shows that, would you mind leaving me a link. Thank you again for sharing your beautiful work.
I love this so much. I am going to try one too. Just bought the inks and the butterflies. Thanks so much for this fabulous inspiration. I wonder if you could tell me a bit more about how you prepped the canvas? I believe you said it was 10x10 and you sprayed salvaged patina distress oxide - correct? Was it a fairly light application? Sorry so many questions 🥴
Love, love, love it! And, I would love to make one for my sister’s new home. Could you please tell me about the storage container that the little hearts are in? I did not see that listed. I also want all the new SSS inks, but that’s such an investment ☹️ Thanks for sharing your beautiful project. Have great day.
Hi, does anyone know what that container is at the end that's holding the heart embellishments and such, or is it a set? I didn't see it in the product list. I need that kind of organization in my life lol.
Can you give us more info in the swatch ring you bought other than you got it on Amazon. I think it is important to know so it fits the holes on the swatch & equally important to have enough room on the ring so you can see colors you want to use on your project. Like does that shade of yellow look good with which purple. If you can give us that info I would be grateful. Thank you. I did not see that info in any of the comments below.
Swatching inks, paints, markers, crayons, sprays, etc., is a pro move.
Simply gorgeous!! I LOVE that butterfly canvas. The wax added that special "ZING" to the butterflies. Thank you for showing how you swatch your ink colors. Your videos are always amazing. I generally don't catch the lives, but I do watch them on the replay. 🦋
Thank you so much!

yay! Happy swatching!
That butterfly canvas is delightful!
Thank you Renee!
I think this is one of my very favorite projects you’ve created 🥰🥰🥰
Wow! Thank you Deneen!❤️
I love this idea. I don't have any art in my crafting area. I'm thinking all my layering die cut flowers and foliage. Thank you for the inspiration.
I’ve been wanting to swatch for ages but was worried about how long it would take. I’m glad to hear it wasn’t too long. The butterfly wall art is beautiful! Also something on my to do list but it always looked so intimidating. Thank you for showing how you did yours. 🦋🦋
Glad it was helpful!
Absolutely love all the butterflies...l have to try them all over again. Thanks for sharing. 💕🌺💕
This is absolutely gorgeous! Love ALL the colors!
Laura
I absolutely love this canvas 💖It is gorgeous Nichol 🌺
Love the butterfly project, sooo pretty. Thank you, Nichol.
Glad you like it!

Absolutely gorgeous 💕💕💕
Thank you so much!!
Just gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
I love the idea of a project to display for a change…it’s beautiful and i will attempt to do this for myself. Thanks.
You are so welcome!
So fun! I may have to do one of these with my Grand daughter. She would love this!
Thank you Brenda!

I am freaking obsessed w/ my label maker🤣 I must say it at least once a week…I love my label maker!!!!!!
Me too!!
Really love your swatching and your butterfly canvas. I don't swatch as I only have 4 colours of ink. 😊
Just did my SSS pawsatively saturated inks this past weekend. I put the trios together on one swatch. Love these inks.
I used the waffle Flower Swatch stamps
OH! I love that!!! WF has some great swatching products!
Gorgeous.
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful fantastic video . Thank you .
Thank you!

Truly amazing. How do you clean dust off to keep it cleaned.
I'll use a feather duster of some sort.
What a wonderful project! I would love to create one to hang in my new craft studio. The new inks from Simon look luscious. No video (yet!) but I use these in the drawers to hold and organize: amzn.to/3Pup6DT
What font style did you use on your label maker? I like to label all my stuff too and I like the look of that one :)
I love this so much. I am going to try one too. Just bought the inks and the butterflies. Thanks so much for this fabulous inspiration. Very light application. I did it outside so the mess would be out there and not it my studio.

I too would like to know about the storage container. TFS🧡
Here you go: amzn.to/39YkCqx
Thanks
You are SO kind! Thank you sweet friend! ❤️
I have a question, why do you swatch the other 3 patterns in addition to the solid image? Just asking :)
I'm already swatching one and it's not any more work to swatch the patterns. You can use the additional spaces any way you want. :)
❤️❤️❤️
Are there 60 SSS ink pads? You store them all in your IKEA drawers??
Yes, there are 60 now and yes I store them in drawers.
Do you think these inks better than Lawn Fawn!?
*like
❤❤❤
sorry - me again..... while I love almost any color - my favorites are blues, greens & teals.
Hi, does anyone know what that container is at the end that's holding the heart embellishments and such, or is it a set? I didn't see it in the product list. I need that kind of organization in my life lol.
