Best of luck to you sir, we share a common dream. Only you are achieving it, didn't think a stranger would inspire me as much as you have. Appreciate it, and be safe.
You're probably on the trail, but good luck, dude! Have lot's of fun and enjoy the experience, the share it with those of us that can't make it on those trails. All the best from Romania!
I’ve been waiting for this video to drop! I met Same Same at the NC/GA border a few weeks ago while I was conditioning for the PCT. He gave me a little spoiler on your plans xD. I hope y’all cross paths on the AT, it’d be a neat reunion for the three of you. I’m starting the PCT on the 14th, super psyched! Good luck on your journey, super ambitious of you! You can do it!
Hey Lucas, no way that's incredible haha! Small world. Thanks for the kind words man, I'm pretty hyped to give it a shot. Super cool you are gonna give the PCT a go, best of luck to you man!
Rats! Almost FIRST! ☺ Hey Chris! So excited for you! You’ve worked hard and trained hard and planned for this most of your life! You are READY!! Let the adventure begin… AGAIN! Love you son!
Chris: It sounds like we have similar goals for the year. I started an AT outside-in flip flop on 1 Feb and did the 900+miles up to NorVA. I'll start my CDT NOBO thru on 23 April. After the CDT, I *may* complete the AT flip-flop. We'll see. I did an AT/PCT Dual in 2019, so I have some idea what's involved. But, I don't believe in looking beyond the trail one is on. I won't meet you, if you stay on schedule, but I wish you all success! And, of course, I'll look for your reports on the trail conditions, especially in the San Juans! Feral
Hey Rad, I wish you good luck and strong feet. Maybe you can explain what your secret weapons are when the moral/motivation drops. For sure something I struggled with on the pct. Stoked to see your journey. BamBam
Hey BamBam good to hear from you again! Thanks brother. I would love to delve into the mental challenge a little more, and maybe will do a vid on it at some point once I have worked it out a little more on trail this time around. I anticipate being a lot more isolated for this thru, so hopefully will find some good ways to cope lol. Hope you are doing well man!
27 miles average on the AT is rough...not saying impossible but damn. The one gear item I don't get is the backpack. No mesh pocket for quick access? Where do you keep your water handy? Good luck!
Sorry for the delay in getting back with ya! That is the only downside to the Ascensionist as a backpacking bag, but thankfully I had a friend sew a super durable water bottle pocket on the side that has worked great. Survived the whole CDT and all the AT so far.
woah woah woah. 😹is the creator of my *fav* movie *to measure a mile* posting another video?!😺😺👏👏👏 i’m *genuinely* very excited to say the least.😹😹😹 *c’mon* bro! woooo!
Oh wow! I watched your PCT trail documentary and loved it. I wish you the best of luck. By the way, I had a question. What were the emotions you felt when you finished the PCT?
Thanks for the kind words! The emotions felt at the end of a thru hike are honestly super hard to sum up. Not trying to brush off your question, but I sum it up in an interview done by the John Freakin Muir Pod a couple months ago in more words than I can type out here haha. (ua-cam.com/video/V3wsec4BSto/v-deo.html, starting about 1:41:43).
@@chriscartermedia Okay! Super happy for you that you get to go on all 3. that's my dream for when I'm older and your documentary was by far my favorite out of all I've seen
I ended up getting size large Kahtoola microspikes instead of the trail crampons actually. Found them for a good deal and they are lighter. Should be sufficient for the San Juans.
I love BeWildlings meals I buy online! They're lightweight, delicious, easy to make and no mess cleanup! Perfect! They also sell breakfast meals, desserts and snack bags of fruits and nut varieties for quick meals on the go. Love them!!!
My trail family doesn't like it as much as I do but that's on them.💀😂🤣 If I don't carry like 5 layers of clothes with me when I backpack I freeze to death but it is because I haven't found the right sleeping bag.
hey bro, if it’s possible, could you do a bit of an *extensive* video about your *food* and show like some stuff your taking and your methods. surprisingly, ppl don’t explain their food methods very well. i just find it *super* fun to watch videos about food at camps or on a trail etc.😹😹😹😹 *edit* well i just finished the video and realized your already gone.😹so nvm.
Hey bro! No worries haha. I agree, a lot of gear videos only focus on their base weight and not the consumables. I could probably go into that at with a video at some point, but my diet on trail is quite simple. I usually do just granola bars and snacks for breakfast (really don’t like firing up the stove in the morning), some sort of tortilla wraps with tuna or PB for lunch, and then Knorr Sides, with Idahoan potatoes for dinner, or a freeze-dried meal if I’m lucky enough. This trail I’ll thankfully be getting some help from ReadyWise freeze-dried meals which is baller, and they’ll help to diversify my dinners a little haha. Hope that helps!
Just a quick gear question: with a base weight of 13 pounds what would be the actual weight you're going to carry during the day, having food and water included?
Typo on the trail length graphic: AT = 2,190 miles not 2,120.

Thought we would never see a video after the masterpiece "to measure a mile"! So exciteeed
Thanks Xanthi, appreciate the kind words. Hoping to put something fun together for these trips!
@@chriscartermedia that's for sure but no stress though😊
Excellent video....this would make for a fine interview on Tools For Nomads :) way to go Rad!
Yesss let's make it happen!
I recently decided to undergo laser eye surgery to cut 1 ounce of my baseweight. #Gramweenie
This is gonna be amazing. 'To measure a mile' is incredible, stay safe & good luck!
Appreciate the kind words!
Was so excited when I randomly saw you had new videos. Love the content!

Can't wait to follow your adventure. Walk on brother.
Good luck. Sounds like a tough yet great journey. Trust you will make it all the way.

I like the spoon- and it's multipurpose! It can be used as a fire starter too! Can't wait to follow your journey!
Haha thanks Jan! Yes in a pinch I may have to use it for some kindling 😂
Wow both in the same year! Nice. I’m hoping to go on my first thru-hike this summer on the Buckeye Trail. But I need to seriously update my gear.
Have a great time! Stay safe and happy trails!!
Thanks Debra!

Thanks Wendy!

SOOOO EXCITED!
Hey Chris, what size crampons did you get?
I ended up getting size large Kahtoola microspikes instead of the trail crampons actually. Found them for a good deal and they are lighter. Should be sufficient for the San Juans.
For reference I’ll be wearing a size 10.5 Hoka Speedgoat. A medium should fit regular 10.5 shoes but Hokas have so much cushion the large fit better.
Wazee, tuko! :)

Cool load out have fun and be safe.... if you say “clutch” one more time I’m going to lose my mind though.....
I guess clutch translates to cool hip loose and groovy

Your Lighterpack Weight for the Big 4 is wrong you have to include the Raincover for your Backpack OK
5.686 lbs

Rockin?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You can't thru-hike the AT in three months.
It's been done.
You can try🤘
Good luck.
Recently finished the AT in 3 mo. 5 days. Partner did it in exactly 3 months. It definitely can be done!
