8yo or above . . definitely 10yo or above. You get entertainment, fun, education, learning, and a broadening of your horizons and imagination for what is possible - all of these are intangible and priceless.
I was a child onces and i was in a course that implemented this models and i got to code them, i made the robot tank but it didn't have the turret sadly, yet i made also the cocodryle and partially alpha rex, then the finalnday come and got sick, now i love programing, and seeing this lego set, it gives to me a nostalgic vibe.
Amazing! This is my 5 year old son's first intro to Lego robotics an he is now hooked! Great job on all of them but the crocodile got belly laughs. He's going to be talking about that for DAYS.
That is basically what is happening here - the ultrasound sensor (eyes) acts as a motion / distance sensor of sorts and that triggers a number of moves / behaviours.
These are just the 4 basic robots that come with the NXT Mindstorms kit, the instructions for which are part of the NXT software that you install onto your PC. You could either download the NXT software yourself or try to find the instructions online somewhere?
I am thinking about buying the Lego Mindstorm starter kit. Question for you. Did you write any program in it to act certain way? or everything is preinstalled etc?
Thanks skullboy You should go get your own Mindstorms kit - these are the 4 basic robots included out of the box so it'll be easy to build and program them all yourself.
Wonderful video, Mark Bruce. I'd like to know if we could integrate that crocodile with a motion sensor and pre-define a set of moves when the sensor goes off. Thanks.
If you have a solid programming background (I have none) that you may find these Lego systems a little basic, yes. However, as Cameron says people have created some very complex programmed machines out of the same systems, and there is scope to integrate reasonably complex logic into them. From memory I think there is an Arduino project to supply a custom Arduino board that can interface with and control these Lego control Bricks, and so you can program the Ardunio in any way you wish. Good luck Jeremy Borg
I forget what the name of the app is - just do a search for "NXT Remote Control" on Google Play app store and you should find a bunch of them that you can try out and use - some of them are better in certain situations / uses than others.
***** I tend to disagree. Let's look at the facts here. By comparison of the technical specifications, the EV3 is significantly more powerful than the NXT; it has a better processor (NXT has an Atmel 32-bit ARM7 processor while EV3 has an ARM9 processor), better operation speed (EV3 operates at 480 Mbits a second, NXT operates at 12 MBits a second), more RAM (NXT has 256KB of Flash RAM and 64KB of RAM while EV3 has 16MB of Flash and 64MB of RAM), and the OS of EV3s are Linux-based, while the NXT is proprietary. EV3 also has a MicroSD Card reader (up to 32GB) and a USB host port (for wi-fi, daisy chaining, etc.), while the NXT simply... doesn't. When we come to motors and sensors, the EV3 also comes out ahead. Both units have encoded motor support (degree monitoring), but the EV3 has 4 ports compared to the NXT's 3. As for sensors, both bricks have 4 ports, and can support both digital and analog sensors; however, EV3 bricks can receive such data at 460.8 MBits a second, while NXT can only register data at 9600 bits a second, which causes a bit of a discrepancy when using the backwards-compatibility function of the EV3. There doesn't appear to be any support for Power Functions/RCX motors or communication with RCX or Power Functions devices with EV3 just yet, but if you don't have either of those anyway, that shouldn't be much of a problem. NXT didn't start out with these things, either. EV3 also has more buttons on its brick, which is quite handy for people who like to use the buttons. It's also a very good thing because of how the UI the EV3 uses works. As for NXT looking better... well, that's a matter of personal taste, isn't it? **shrug** I really don't have anything more to say about that. Overall, EV3 takes the vast majority of what NXT did and greatly improves on it. Also, since LEGO seems to still be in support of modifications (software and hardware) to their product, I'm certain eventually EV3 will have those remaining bases covered. Having used at least the NXT 1.0 for years, I strongly recommend EV3. NXT is still good, and I wouldn't say otherwise; even the original _Robotics Invention System_ stuff still sees some good use, and that was released about 17 years ago. But if each robot kit were standing on their own, EV3 gives you a lot more options than its predecessors do.
Superman Gris the NXT, like many robots, does not work on its own. You use a software to program one. In this video he is using Bluetooth to control his NXT. so, if you're connected to another robot you could control it.
I just got my first Lego Mindstorms kit, the EV3, and I have no knowledge at all on how to program my robot. I see pictures on the programming page, but I don't really know what they mean. Is there any way that you could help me? You do not have to.
From what I read looks like the EV3 could be controlled by an Android phone. I am using App Inventor 2 and I am wondering if that software would control the EV3 because in the LEGO Palette it lists components labelled NXT.
There are quite a few NXT remote control apps on the Android Play store - some are better than others in different situations - I forget what the name of this one is though sorry. You should try a few out to see which you prefer.
dear mark bruce, based on your opinion which age of people would like to play this robots? can i know what is the benefit of playing this robot? besides you get entertain and fun, what else is that?
Hello mark step through your youtube channel and I liked the robot # 4 I sent this to know if you help me with a link to know how to build this robot please appreciate your help very much thank you!
Absolutely wonderful with the classical music. Love it.

finally a mindstorms video without terrible music :)
I was about 10 to 13 when I played with them the most
They were a BLAST!
I have found mine unopened today
I want to build these, could you please share the PDF or a video where I can get the steps to build these bots?
Amazing!! I´m working on the humanoid robot, thanks for the video
Cheers Amanda - I'm glad this spiked your son's interest :)
Eae man, to com saudade da minha ex namorada, terça feira terca feira vou visitar o meu amor, é mentira é mentira seu amor ta com outro

Tips:
Separate the pieces by color/type when you are buliding an long model.
Fantastic!
Which app did you use as a remote control for your first robot?
Make it dance! That would be a great video NXT dance.
These are just the 4 basic robots that come with the NXT Mindstorms kit, the instructions for which are part of the NXT software that you install onto your PC. You could either download the NXT software yourself or try to find the instructions online somewhere?
It was fun watching him build :(
Hello how are you ?
I bought this robot but does have 4 programs.
you would have them so I can download ?
Thank you
my favorite robot is the one that flings the balls! *completely unrelated side note* The music at the beginning reminds me of Durarara...
I am thinking about buying the Lego Mindstorm starter kit. Question for you. Did you write any program in it to act certain way? or everything is preinstalled etc?
I have the NXT 1.0been thinking about upgrading just not sure as too which one. The NXT 2.0 or the EV3.
Ev3
Nxt ev3 is buggy
Thanks skullboy

Dear Bruce, how to connect the robot with smart-phone touch control?
thank
Andi
I have made others myself (see other videos) but did make it pretty clear that this is just the 4 Basic NXT Robots - I didn't represent otherwise
Wonderful video, Mark Bruce. I'd like to know if we could integrate that crocodile with a motion sensor and pre-define a set of moves when the sensor goes off.
Thanks.
We just now got the NXT 2.0 - is there an app for the iphone to control it bluetooth? I'm still trying to figure that out
Yes there are lots of aps for Android and iPhone to control the Lego NXT
You cannot use IOS without jailbreak
There Soooo Many Apps In Ios And Android
I have quite a solid programming background and would like to start experimenting with robots as a hobby. are the mindstorms too basic?

Thanks for the detailed reply and sorry for the late answer :)
I like it how the video is called 4 BASIC robots but it's actually not that easy
Nice... For the walking robot,is it possible to make one that bend the knees when walking like we do?
I forget what the name of the app is - just do a search for "NXT Remote Control" on Google Play app store and you should find a bunch of them that you can try out and use - some of them are better in certain situations / uses than others.
Yes, the parts in the box are from a single Lego NXT Mindstorms kit.
Thankyou for sharing. Inspiring.
No that design modification is also included in the original NXT package
I'm not sure if I should get EVE3 or NXT 2.0 what should I get
I personally like the nxt better
Get both!
EVE3 and NXT are both complicated and makes you think hard, but i would say the nxt is easier to accomplish something with. and it looks cooler...
***** XD buy wood sticks and bring it on~~
Eve3 its not bad if yu just want to try out
***** I tend to disagree. Let's look at the facts here.

I'm not a computer/robot/electricity smart guy i dont know like anything but can this like control other robots near you?
