In 2007 Dad bought me my first car - a 2000 plate K11 Nissan Micra Sport. It was a peach, 24,000 miles from new, top spec, and in amazing condition. I drove it. I used it as my daily driver up until 2015, racking up over 85,000 miles. Then I met Mrs JC and fancied something a bit more ... impressive.
I parked the car in the garage and left it under a cover for 10 years. NOW - fast forward to 2024 - and Dad suggested it was time to get the old girl back on the road for Rustival 2 in September BUT - is it too far gone? Are we wasting our time?
We have got it out of the garage and to dads house BUT it wouldn't idle properly
However! ... It's now fixed and work began on other bits.
In this video which is a bit of a MEGA UPDATE Dad talks us through how busy he has been the past two weeks getting the car nearly finished

This is great news. I remember watching Pistons! and it sounding like the welding may scupper the project. Great to know that this has not been the case and she should hopefully still make Rustival.

The wee flap is usually there to stop the fuel coming out if you decide to put it on the roof in a field due to overly exuberant cornering ;)

Youre poor dad he should be out on a cruise in the carribean not mucking about with cars. Back in the day people would take the micky out of these micras noddy car. In 2024 we all wish we had a simple reliable car like the micra
I absolutely can tell you Dad would genuinely prefer to be in the garage tinkering than on a cruise ship! 🤣 - they really are blooming good little cars
@@JonCoupland yeah we didn't appreciate what we had really back in the 80s and 90s aslong as people had gte or gsi or xr on the boot all was okay. Not only modern cars expensive to repair when they go wrong they also rust worse than the older cars aswell.
Glad you kept the cap from the tank Jon. You never know when it will come in handy! Seriously though, the update was a good reminder on the issue of spares availability and the compatibility of some aftermarket items.

The main takeaway is….. leave him alone to get on with stuff, and buy decent parts when available even if they’re not cheap !
Great that it’s steadily been revived from top to bottom and will make it to Rustival 2.
I think the rot and muck up in the back of the wheelarch and fuel filler are testiment to the wisdom of sticking a hose spray or jetwash up and under your car every year and having a good clearout of mud and salt regularly !

I remember grans Micra had to have a rear wiper arm as some *(insert word of choice here)* snapped it off... and walked over the car... so sad really as she adored that car, and it was vandalised so many times.
Edit: and you're still tempting me... I'm half thinking of selling my old Merc and getting a K11!

That's only a temporary thing so I know where they are - new period correct number plates are coming and will be stuck on and now screwed 😁👍

I took my one off my rover 114 and had it sandblasted and painted before it got to that stage

Bloomin’ good video. Enjoyed it. 😅still Dad seems to be after the museum Micra’s not meaning well….🫣 That arch did not look that bad; I suppose treat it now to stop the rust it will extend its life… And maybe Japan can yield a clear header tank? Just thinking out loud.
