本当に本当に日本で生まれ育ってこういう作品を産める国に生まれてよかったって思います。
the reveal that the letters were for Ann the whole time was done really well. in the first half of the movie i remember thinking why her mom were writing the letters and who they were for. not once did i think they were for her until her mom said “nothing is more important than you”. at that point i had a tiny bit of suspicion that the letters were for Ann but i was thinking more of recommendations to jobs or schools. the scene where Ann was throwing a “tantrum” had me tearing up and the inevitable death of her mom made me cry. by that point i honestly forgot about the letters lmao. then boom, bombshell dropped. when i realised the letters were for Ann the whole time my tears did not stop flowing. i, a grown man that didnt even cry to the death of ironman(at the time my favourite superhero), spent a good 10 mins crying while looking at a paused screen on my pc. i had to hold back tears as i called my mom and talked to her. funnily enough, spending time with my mom was the only thing i could think about as i cried. after i finally resumed the episode, second bombshell hits. the entire time Violet was holding back her tears. that reveal just reopened the floodgates of my eyes. man i couldn’t stop crying especially since i’ve watched her growth from an emotionless girl to a girl with emotions for 10 straight episodes. that is what you call character development.
i think to this day, no other form of media has made me feel the things episode 10 of Violet Evergardens made me felt(there probably is i just dont remember them lol) and to do all that in just 20 mins is incredible. i still believe its one of the few 10/10 pieces of media to exist in this world.
