      Please don't 3D print a mouthpiece. Fork over the $30 for a yamaha 4C, Brilhart Ebolin, Clark Fobes Debut, J&D Hite Premiere etc. or just don't bother. 3D printed mouthpieces function a very small percentage of the time, and if you try that is a full day commitment to printing and sanding boring black ABS blobs with no guarantee that any of them will actually play. It's surprisingly temperamental. If you buy one of those, however, you can support your local music store and try all of the ones they have.

    Unlike most people here, I find it to be most intriguing. I mean, why not have a small novelty like this so you can stick it in a backpack and play it around school? and you could even practice scale development on the go without having to bring such a load with you. Thank you for the video!

      well, about the portability: have a curved soprano... (or even a sopranino) the sound is AWESOME and you can actually practice a regular sax fingering with those.
      that verona sucks... (if they'd actually placed a normal sax fingering, it would be less shitty, I mean, look at the timber of this plastic shit)

    Hmm since a lot of people couldnt afford a brass saxophone, this could be an affordable alternative way to introduce those people before they got serious, well if the price is not too close to cheapest Yamaha brass sax that is. Granted, the tone is not as good as high end Selmer. But they could perfect their basic technique first like tonguing, staccato, or vibrato because basically in woodwinds putting the right stresses on the notes is very important.

    • @wanaan
      @wanaan 6 років тому +1

      Not too sure if that's the right idea. It makes similar sound, but do note that you play them very differently. This thing is played like a recorder, not a saxophone. But it can definitely get someone hooked on that tone.

      SorielShipperHenry You may not know this, but in my area I have some neighbors who shocked me when they said that they had elementary kids play real instruments. Like clarinets and saxophones, etc. I wouldn't think 10 or so of these would be soooo bad for a school financially. Depends on the states per people spending in schools.

    • @abtinmahdavi5903

    • @Fretfeeler
      @Fretfeeler 5 років тому +15

      Not when a Recorder is easier to play, more versatile, is fully chromatic and in tune. 99.9% of people are simply too lazy to *actually* learn how to play it, spending 10-20x as much on an instrument that doesn't even have accurate intonation won't change that. The Recorder *is* a "real instrument", just because *you* can't play it properly doesn't change that!

    i started playing the recorder about a year ago, it's cheap, similar fingerings to sax, and if you get a plastic one it has the same advantages. plus, no reeeds and less moving parts to break. and it is a legitimate instrument with a chromatic scale and nice selection of classical music.

Is it a real instrument? and they are like ya it can play 2 1/2 octaves properly and it has all the flats and sharps. 7 dollars and you can literally play anything you want

    This is an interesting little instrument. Like any instrument--even a "casual" one--I'd expect to have to spend some time working with it before getting the best results. This video is just an off-the-cuff demo but it give some idea of how it might sound after a little practice. I have to wonder, though, how the top end notes sound; G to C in the second octave. I've watched a few other Venova videos and people tend not to play that high. My guess is that those notes are very hard to control.

      @@RobertYourell Ok, thank you. Then this instrument is limited in comparison to flute isn't?

    • @RobertYourell
      @RobertYourell 5 років тому

      @@sustainwind9340 I think you're right. The sax, clarinet and flute have two registers, and the top register covers more than an octave (and the clarinet's range is somewhat larger even in the lower register) plus altissimo notes that are more difficult to play. So there's the lower and upper registers plus altissimo notes. Now I'm wondering if the Venova plays altissimo notes. Probably, but I'd like to hear if they sound good.

    Does it use its own mouthpiece or is it a soprano mouthpiece?

    I don't see any advantages over a xaphoon. Are the fingerings different?

    • @DellaStreet123
      @DellaStreet123 5 років тому

      Yes, Xaphoon overblows into the duodecime (like a clarinet) and you have to bend down the second octave g to play and f# because otherwise it falls under the table. Venova overblows into the octave, like a saxophone. This contraception, which I haven't tried myself, uses recorder fingering and is, because of all that meandering tube, able to overblow like a sax.

    Genuine question. Why does every single review I've found on youtube swap the reed for another one? How am I supposed to get into this instrument if I don't have a spare cane reed? Why doesn't anyone review the actual instrument just out of the box? Am I to think the synthetic reed is THAT bad?

    • @alxie
      @alxie Рік тому +1

      The synthetic reed that comes with the instrument is dull / hard / doesn't produce good sound at the extremities of the scale, especially with the stock mouthpiece, which has a very narrow opening. I'm an experienced sax player and had difficulty playing a simple E with the stock reed. Bought a few soprano medium La Voz reeds and the Venova became much more responsive, with a brighter sound and great intonation.

      Btw, you can buy spare reeds at your local woodwind store. Individual reeds are very cheap.

  • @ZipplyZane
    @ZipplyZane 5 років тому +1

    I actually think it sounds pretty nice. I just suspect I would sound bad on it. I was a clarinetist in high school and we never learned vibrato. I never learned how to change my embouchure and intonation to sound good on a sax. And I'm guessing this guy is a really good sax player to make this instrument sound this good.
    Still, it is intriguing. I wonder if any with a more sax fingering style exist...

      You can use a Bb clarinet mouthpiece (just wrap something around the neck to be able to use it).

      Tate Hanson No.. I recommend the clarinet cause it's fingerings are the easiest to pick up out of reeded instruments.

      comicpilots Clarinet fingerings vary in diferent registers. With a sax, you just pop the octave key and you've got the same note 1 octave up. Just something to consider😉🎷

    • @riverfreakingsong
      @riverfreakingsong 7 років тому

      oh true, i didnt even think about that and i play both clarinet and saxophone, but either one of those are easier than picking up an oboe or a bassoon without have experience with a reed instrument lol

      You need soprano sax reeds. If you want something that takes clarinet reeds, you have to look for instruments marketed as "chalumeau", "clarineau" or "saxonett".
