"We come with a Yamaha mouthpiece, a *liga-hiatuchu* , a synthetic reed- "
I can imagine this kind of instrument to be 3D printable at some point.
Looking forward to seeing the result of this! Success?
The chances of better intonation are very good!
DAVID MELLA the mouthpiece can be printed out of 3d printed plastic.
Please don't 3D print a mouthpiece. Fork over the $30 for a yamaha 4C, Brilhart Ebolin, Clark Fobes Debut, J&D Hite Premiere etc. or just don't bother. 3D printed mouthpieces function a very small percentage of the time, and if you try that is a full day commitment to printing and sanding boring black ABS blobs with no guarantee that any of them will actually play. It's surprisingly temperamental. If you buy one of those, however, you can support your local music store and try all of the ones they have.
@@TheAvgCommentator It's always posibble to finish the mouthpiece by hand you know.
Unlike most people here, I find it to be most intriguing. I mean, why not have a small novelty like this so you can stick it in a backpack and play it around school? and you could even practice scale development on the go without having to bring such a load with you. Thank you for the video!
I completely agree. It's a cute little instrument to take anywhere and have fun.
It doesn't use Sax fingerings so...
well, about the portability: have a curved soprano... (or even a sopranino) the sound is AWESOME and you can actually practice a regular sax fingering with those.
that verona sucks... (if they'd actually placed a normal sax fingering, it would be less shitty, I mean, look at the timber of this plastic shit)
They play a normal German RECORDER fingering with the exception of the octave key ;). This is about making a RECORDER sound like a sax.
That's why you get a xaphoon, they're like $40
It's $107. Do you expect it to have great intonation? Like he said, it's a casual instrument. It's not designed or marketed as something to be played in a more serious setting.
Or anywhere other than a school for the deaf.
Oh get off your high horse. It's obviously not a professional Selmer or Yamaha horn.
Hahahhahahhahah
You can adjust the intonation with your mouth...
I mean I saw some good videos here on youtube with this instrument but they were loaded with special effects from some music software.
1:25 he's a robot. illuminati confirmed
Xavier Gonzalez true
That made me laugh.
Those darned sax robots! They'll make human sax damn near impossible.
a ligustbaubgsanchur
Yamaha mouthpiece, [REDACTED], synthetic reed,
I play recorder. I'm not a pro musician. I'm a casual player. I'm getting one.
I’m a beginner alto sax player and I’m getting one
# ## a roblox player, I’m getting ###
2:00 Oh my gosh! Axel F! Who doesn't like that song?! I love it! :D
Great overview, Mike! We are excited to have a casual option for those interested in learning more about wind instruments or having an on-the-go option for practice. Let us know if you have any questions!
Cobra and wicker basket are extra.
Lawrence Fairbairn that's hilarious
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
That's good stuff! lmao
totally underrated comment 👏👏👏👏
Not at all, I loved it!
I think is actually a really cool thing! I am getting one!
Thanks for your order Luciana! We've shipped your Venova out and it will be with you tomorrow
why not just make one from a carrot ?
check out the national vegetable orchestra, I'm not making it up
make that the London vegetable orchestra, forgot the name hahaha

At some point you’ll need to eat the carrot.
Hmm since a lot of people couldnt afford a brass saxophone, this could be an affordable alternative way to introduce those people before they got serious, well if the price is not too close to cheapest Yamaha brass sax that is. Granted, the tone is not as good as high end Selmer. But they could perfect their basic technique first like tonguing, staccato, or vibrato because basically in woodwinds putting the right stresses on the notes is very important.
Not too sure if that's the right idea. It makes similar sound, but do note that you play them very differently. This thing is played like a recorder, not a saxophone. But it can definitely get someone hooked on that tone.
Savin Wangtal he didn't mention anything about fingerings. He's talking about the mouthpiece and producing a tone.
This sounds nothing like my alto sax. Js.🙂
Oleo at the end!
This is amazing. My eyes still can't believe what my ears heard.
Looks awesome!
Give it to a homeless saxophonist who has no sax and i bet he'll get $100 per day
It has such an oddly beautiful sound.
Schools should buy sets of these instead of pushing recorders! Much more beneficial and a better introduction to music!
That's a great idea, but since these cost about a hundred dollars, it would get pretty expensive as to a more cheap recorder.
SorielShipperHenry You may not know this, but in my area I have some neighbors who shocked me when they said that they had elementary kids play real instruments. Like clarinets and saxophones, etc. I wouldn't think 10 or so of these would be soooo bad for a school financially. Depends on the states per people spending in schools.
That’s good but your not considering that they require reeds too, which are expensive, and around little kids will break a lot
Not when a Recorder is easier to play, more versatile, is fully chromatic and in tune. 99.9% of people are simply too lazy to *actually* learn how to play it, spending 10-20x as much on an instrument that doesn't even have accurate intonation won't change that. The Recorder *is* a "real instrument", just because *you* can't play it properly doesn't change that!
Tarner Szear my elementrary school started band and orchestra in 4th grade.
Going to buy one of theses.
0:00 Indiana Jones
1:43 Pink Panther
2:00 Axel F
2:09 Oleo
I love his song..❣️❣️
Amazing song choice! Dr. Jones would be proud!
OMG! 😍 What a beauty!!
I think its amazing
I've heard plenty of people sound worse on a Selmer 😂
Steve Whiteley lmao
Whats with the hate? Its good
=O
@@rudys.artous5477 nah selmer kinda sucks
Selmer has a competitor to this instrument?
sounds like a more expensive kazoo
Then I need one
Nah m8 you dont know shit
@@georges.1216 Dude its a joke you think he was being serious?
@@papabootleg1085 did he told you that or what?
@@georges.1216 No he didn't tell me but I can tell because I have a sense of humor unlike you
i started playing the recorder about a year ago, it's cheap, similar fingerings to sax, and if you get a plastic one it has the same advantages. plus, no reeeds and less moving parts to break. and it is a legitimate instrument with a chromatic scale and nice selection of classical music.
couldnt agree more, i started playing the recorder 3 years ago, the first time I saw it was at a music store Sam Ash in the OC Area and i asked. Is it a real instrument? and they are like ya it can play 2 1/2 octaves properly and it has all the flats and sharps. 7 dollars and you can literally play anything you want
1:25 "with a mouthpiece, a lig-eiaac-ure..."
He played oleo, but can he play the Giant steps solo at full tempo?
how is so cute! (a instrument)
Herminie Granger an*
Fat Panda yeah that's the problem with this comment?
Mate Nain it should be, "how is it so cute! (the instrument).
Herminie Granger *hermione
This is an interesting little instrument. Like any instrument--even a "casual" one--I'd expect to have to spend some time working with it before getting the best results. This video is just an off-the-cuff demo but it give some idea of how it might sound after a little practice. I have to wonder, though, how the top end notes sound; G to C in the second octave. I've watched a few other Venova videos and people tend not to play that high. My guess is that those notes are very hard to control.
“If you look at the bottom here we’ve got a SQUUUUUIGLY body.” 😂😂😂
oleo was a nice touch at the end, although I'd be interested to hear how that handles the changes.
You sound a lot like Jan Garbarek on that thing, and not at all in a bad way! Intonation is a little wild, but I bet it could be tamed. This makes me really want one!
How good is it when played in the B flat scale..?
2:00 So sorry, but the theme "Axel F" is not in that note-pattern. But you make this mini-pseudo-sax instrument sound great. Prior sax experience?
2017: year of the Venova. :)
does it support any soprano mouthpiece?
How does it compare in terms of playability with Xaphoon? Also what reed did you use as a replacement for the plastic one? Thanks.
Nice
Can it produce the middle eastern scales/tones ? Like Clarient or Oboe ?
Does it use a soprano sax mouthpiece. I bought a soprano sax and it ended up being a scam, but I got 2 other great mouthpieces for it. I was wondering if those would work on this
You said that the buttons are layed out like a recorder. I'm a old alto and soprano sax player. Will I be able to play this like a soprano sax?
Hi Mike, i'd like to know if the last theme is really 'Voleo' from Magic Malik ? or if another artist created a theme with this chorus before Malik..
Could you send me the music for the beginning indiana jones piece? I just got a venova and I would love to learn this!
or a link
Cool
Can i use my alto mouthpiece?
Will it fit?
Can normal soprano sax reeds used for Venova? How different it is to play Venova vs soprano sax in terms of embrochure ?
Where do you get notes for this? I see there are different ones than on normal recorder.
I'm more concerned about the key and fingerings. He said it was in the key of 'C'. Is that correct? Also, he said that it had recorder fingerings, is that a recorder in "C' or in 'F'? Thanks.
Which instrument cane reeds you used instead of the stock synthetic one?
What is the song he played after talking about the Sax.
I'm a Freshman in highschool, and I can say that I have had the unique honor of playing on a Selmer, for almost a quarter, it is evem mote strange thinking about it now because my school is not a rich one, we're quite poor by sone standards, but I can just say that it was the best sax I've ever played on, and very well may ever play on
Wait Ive been playing one thats labelled as a "Conn" is that what that is? Its a bit old but I havent had any actual problems with it for months
Thanks for video. I just got one and would like to by a real read for it. But it's a C soprano and I can't find C soprano reeds. Will Bb reeds work. Please let me know which reed you switched to. Thanks again
Ninety-nine percent sure they are using soprano sax mouthpieces on these (with reeds for those), so yes, you are using a Bb instrument mouthpiece on it.
Is it difficult to play te venova?
very, very easy overall
Sounds ok.
What size cane reed did you use? I've never played before ..
Why is everybody comparing this to a sax? Its not a sax its a Venova: a recorder type playing style with a saxish sound to it. I think it sounds great being just that plastic thingy. I might by one for fun purpases. :)
"...with a saxish sound..."
Why are you comparing this to a sax??
ChrisJ Fox It uses fucking Soprano saxophone reeds and a saxophone mouth piece, furthermore, it sounds like a saxophone.
@@BrianJames0964quack i was joking. I actually agree with OP that it sounds saxish, not exactly like a sax.
ChrisJ Fox lmao I didn’t even mean to reply to you. It was for OP
How can You make a melcodica sound like a saxphone?
Is that essentially a 4C soprano mouthpiece?
It's very intriguing and I understand how valuable this could be but it just doesn't have the same warmth as a traditional woodwind instrument
is it available on Hong Kong?
How did you clean the Venova? Ist didn't for me
What is the song at 2:02
Who else wants Sax.co UK to play Flight of The Bumblebee?
edit:OMG thank you all for getting me to the top of the comment section!
Maverick FNAF ME!
I'm not sure that thing has enough octaves to play it
I have one. It's fun to play but it ain't easy. Furthermore inserting a real wood reed is mandatory. The original resin reed is quite useless.
i feel you and i changed the reed to vandoren #3
hey btw do you having a hard time to hit low F? i'm kinda stuck there tho
also F# G# and A# sound kind weird
As a Soprano saxophonist, I’ve found that synthetic reeds are fine as long as you get the right type. Personally I prefer a Legere Signature. I have no doubt that one of those could still make a good sound on the Venova
Sir I am a saxophone player from since I was a kid and the first instrument I ever played was a recorder so I have no doubt I can play this, my question to you is could this be played in a concert or a pep or jazz band or would such a band accept this as an instrument, Not that this is a deal breaker but I was never the less curious. It is my wifes intention to get me this for V-Day.
I've watched a few videos of these things but I've yet to see anyone play all the way up to the high C. I'm guessing it's either hard to produce the note at all or takes iron embouchure to tune it in. I'll know soon enough; I've got one being delivered tomorrow.
ubizmo could you share what you found out please?
my name is messed up ? Sure. I was right. It takes iron embouchure to get the high notes at all and to tune them. Also, the cross fingerings for the sharps and flats are pretty useless, even on the lower notes. Getting those notes is 90% embouchure. It's not like a recorder at all.
Would any soprano mouth piece fit it?
Jordz Van 6299 I believe so
What sheet music , will it support?
Can it do falls.
I just bought Venova and wonder how I mute this instrument, would you kindly suggest some ideas? thanks :)
Stop blowing into it. Seriously, though, play in a walk-in closet full of clothes with the door shut.
1:26
Sounds like a smashing hit.
Ya know the one.
Nice invoation! but can they make it out out brass? I Am willing to pay more. This sound so toy like.
Whts the last song he played
Doesn't it have all the 3 registers (base, middle & high registers)? Please share this information. Thank you
They said it plays two octaves and has two registers, much like a sax or clarinet.
@@RobertYourell Ok, thank you. Then this instrument is limited in comparison to flute isn't?
@@sustainwind9340 I think you're right. The sax, clarinet and flute have two registers, and the top register covers more than an octave (and the clarinet's range is somewhat larger even in the lower register) plus altissimo notes that are more difficult to play. So there's the lower and upper registers plus altissimo notes. Now I'm wondering if the Venova plays altissimo notes. Probably, but I'd like to hear if they sound good.
Does it use its own mouthpiece or is it a soprano mouthpiece?
I don't see any advantages over a xaphoon. Are the fingerings different?
Yes, Xaphoon overblows into the duodecime (like a clarinet) and you have to bend down the second octave g to play and f# because otherwise it falls under the table. Venova overblows into the octave, like a saxophone. This contraception, which I haven't tried myself, uses recorder fingering and is, because of all that meandering tube, able to overblow like a sax.
1:26 A GLITCH IN THE MATRIX.
*i do kinda want one though.
Genuine question. Why does every single review I've found on youtube swap the reed for another one? How am I supposed to get into this instrument if I don't have a spare cane reed? Why doesn't anyone review the actual instrument just out of the box? Am I to think the synthetic reed is THAT bad?
The synthetic reed that comes with the instrument is dull / hard / doesn't produce good sound at the extremities of the scale, especially with the stock mouthpiece, which has a very narrow opening. I'm an experienced sax player and had difficulty playing a simple E with the stock reed. Bought a few soprano medium La Voz reeds and the Venova became much more responsive, with a brighter sound and great intonation.
Btw, you can buy spare reeds at your local woodwind store. Individual reeds are very cheap.
What size Reed
I actually think it sounds pretty nice. I just suspect I would sound bad on it. I was a clarinetist in high school and we never learned vibrato. I never learned how to change my embouchure and intonation to sound good on a sax. And I'm guessing this guy is a really good sax player to make this instrument sound this good.
Still, it is intriguing. I wonder if any with a more sax fingering style exist...
You can use a Bb clarinet mouthpiece (just wrap something around the neck to be able to use it).
would you recommend this as a starter reed instrument? i play trumpet but would like to play reeded instruments
Tate Hanson No.. I recommend the clarinet cause it's fingerings are the easiest to pick up out of reeded instruments.
comicpilots Clarinet fingerings vary in diferent registers. With a sax, you just pop the octave key and you've got the same note 1 octave up. Just something to consider😉🎷
oh true, i didnt even think about that and i play both clarinet and saxophone, but either one of those are easier than picking up an oboe or a bassoon without have experience with a reed instrument lol
Sharp
Wait, does this come with the mouthpiece?
Yes it does
Sax .co.uk that's lit
does it use soprano reeds or can i use a clarinet reed?
You need soprano sax reeds. If you want something that takes clarinet reeds, you have to look for instruments marketed as "chalumeau", "clarineau" or "saxonett".
minuto 2:00 qué canción es?
Is a soprano or alto mouthpiece
It sounds like it would be good for beginners.
can you use recorder sheet music with venova?
yes, as long as it is within 2 octaves
Does somebody know the music in the beginning?
Laser Imai Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark I think.
Would this be appropriate for a middle school child with special needs that can play a recorder but is not yet ready for a saxophone or other brass instrument? Could she play the same music as the band with this instrument?
Legit the only Yamaha instrument I can afford 😂
Yamaha plastic recorders would be less expensive.
What was the song after pink panther
nickolas alaniz crazy frog
That was so sweet that he ended with oleo
Perfect for playing the pink panther song and absolutely nothing else.
I saw an ad for this. It looked weird so I googled it. I think I hate it, but I also really want one.
where can i buy this if im in the us?
