I’m pretty sure dislikes don’t change the algorithm because one time I got cringe gacha life videos on my fyp, and I started to dislike them, but they kept coming, then I chose the “don’t reccomend content” button and it worked. Medium sized story short: You’re using the wrong button

You should try this but with the “Do Not Recommend Channel” button. It should stop you from getting a video from the same channel, making it have more variety.

@@Mr_Tophatt I used it on one of Lankybox’s videos to get rid of Lankybox, the scourge that plagues this platform and drowns the iPad kids in their endless loud noises and editing effects. I can confirm it works.
By clicking the skip button it goes to a related video it has nothing to do with your algorithm and what it's recommended

the reason why the algorithm works like this is because of three things: reference starvation, engagement recommendation, and continuation videos. reference starvation is when you start a new youtube channel and you have no watched videos. thats why it gave you that error at the beginning. if it has no references to previous videos youve watched it has no idea what to recommend you. contributing to this, views only really seem to matter in the algorithm's mind, and if you dislike a video, it wont matter! contributing to THIS factor, youtube will recommend continuing videos (via integer or upload date with a similar title) made by the same channel at the top of the next up list. all of this makes it so that you could get stuck in a loop as long as how many videos a channel has uploaded. hooray!

The Next button will almost always be related to the previous content you consumed, especially if it's a list in the series. The best method to actually "dislike" every single video would be to individually click "Not interested" on the UA-cam homepage on every video, refresh, and then keep doing so until you find the most obscure videos. The dislike button doesn't do much of anything to counteract the fact you keep on watching the same videos as well (especially since hate-watching is a very real marketing tactic). If you never click a video, it won't know what to recommend you, so avoid doing so at all costs after you are forced to watch the first video.
TL;DR, use the "Not Interested" button on every video on the homepage, refresh, and keep doing so for as long as you want for the best results.

the problem with youtubes algorithm is that it can start you off with reccomending you some video but then you could get sucked into a rabbit hole that feeds you that exact content forever so youll never escape that type of content unless you actively search for other things

Eleven has that doctors handwriting. Also... you know that the play next button plays the next video that is most similar to the video you are watching right now...? To get the algorithm to work, you need to refresh the home page pick a video from the then go back to the home page and pick a vid from there and so on and so on.

So when I like a video, UA-cam stops recommending me these types of videos, but when you dislike a video, it shows you the same stuff over and over again.

youtube doesnt care about the dislike buttons. they recommend your videos based on which type you spend the most watching and the one you click on the most. since you kept clicking at the same type of video it thought you wanted to watch more of these videos but then you sometimes got lucky and got something slightly different

You needed to go back to the homepage after each dislike. youtube chooses the "watch next" video when you watch one
if you look at the side bar on YT, the first video is usually one of the same channels you're watching. the skip button just goes to that video
This Genuinely Shows How Flawed The Algorithm Can Be.
You did this incorrectly, disliking a video does not make the next video different, its already set before you dislike, and by watching next, you're teaching the algorithm that you like this type of content. The most accurate way to do this would have been to dislike, and then reset your home page, and click on a random video on the FYP
Disliking and liking is basically the same from the perspective of the algorythm. This video would have been way shorter if you used the "not interesting" button. Also the sidebar will most of the time feature videos from the sale Channel wich makes you waste even more time. Still banger video

Yeah, I do think it is ignoring your dislikes when clicking next. You're expecting it to work like TikTok, except the next button counts as a scroll. That UA-cam is creating a feed of videos to keep you mindlessly engaged.
But UA-cam's algorithm is not like that. It's based on expecting people to choose which video they want to watch next. And you are picking the next recommended video--the top one on the right column. That's usually a related video. So it thinks you really like videos like that.
It expects you to go back and pick a different video from your Recommended if you don't like a video.

try not staying on the video for so long, shortcut to skip a video is shift+n. Just keep your mouse on the dislike button and speedrun 1000 videos and see where you end up. You can always talk about the videos after. Just dont give some videos more watch time than others or youtube will start recomending those more.
