Absolutely, amazing doing that in a metal concert.
The trust between them is evident. It runs as deep as their friendship. The original album version isn't a duet, but I prefer this version, as they meld together so well, vocally.
Shoutout to the orchestra playing/reading sheet music with all those stage lights going on!

This, for me, is SYMPHONIC METAL. Out of this world that performace.
Really hard to argue that much of anything else is more symphonic & metal - great arrangement and performance by all artists!
Also Ghost Love Score from Nightwish.
The Retrospect show was definitely one of the best shows I've ever been.

Brilliance is something that is rarely attained. But this performance shows what it looks and sounds like. Excellent. Simone and Floor together are amazing.

What a wonderful song, just stunning. Another one worth looking at for you is Within Temptation, Somewhere, featuring Anneke from the Gathering........basically another 2 powerful Dutch singers.

Take look at this Epica live show called Retrospect ( their 10th anniversary show) with orchestra and choir on stage! The Show lasts for about 3 hours, you won't be dissapointed.

This Epica concert with the choir and the Symphony orchestra was really one of a kind. It is clear Floor and Simone get along very well. Great song by 2 of my favorite singers. This was a 3 hour show with live orchestra and choir for their 10th anniversary. Simone and Floor did 2 songs. The other one was “stabat mater dolorosa”. Thank you for this reaction.

Simone Simons, Epica's singer, was 3-4 months pregnant at the time.....she's married to the keyboardist of Kamelot.....the lead guitar player is Mark Jansen (no relation to Floor) is the founder of Epica, and, was Floor's bandmate in After Forever.....
My preferred live version of Sancta Terra. Epic duet, epic singers and epic live show. The whole show this video is based on lasted 3 hours and Simone was 3 months pregnant.

May have already been suggested, but Einar Selvik ft. Tina Guo on Vikings Suite with the Sinfonietta Cracovia and the Polish Radio Choir is wonderful. Conducted by Trevor Morris. So much passion and connection while bridging older traditional with symphony and a bit of modern rockishness vibes...surely worth the watch..!

Every time I hear this it reminds me of "The Flower Duet (Lakme)" by Delibes, I'm pretty sure whoever wrote this song/duet was influenced by this piece by Delibes.
I am glad you got around to listen to this one. Love it. I agree with many others that you will probably also like a classical piece from this same concert. Stabat mater dolorosa. Just Floor and Simone (with sheet music) harmonizing in this duet with just the Orchestra backing them. The audience is completely silent until the end. It is just so good.
Anyone who loves music can only bow to the performances of the musicians - a feast for the senses and ears. Those who claim heavy metal music is doomed to die will be belied. The opposite seems to be the case: We experiencing a golden age of this kind of music.that has been decleared dead with floor jansen at the helm

I loved this song the first time I heard it- a feast for the eyes & ears.
Simone and Floor were flatmates at one point during their early years and today still BFF's.
EPICA!! Super League Symphonic Metal band (and yes they are Dutch)... They are masters of contrast and worth checking out. Anything from their Retrospect show (the show you saw in this vid) is excellent material to watch - and sooooo much more... e.g. their latest album 'Omega'
The Netherlands are so full of Talented ladies Floor, Simone, Miss Montreal, Emma Heesters, OG3ne the 3 Dutch sisters that won The Voice of Holland in 2014.

Hi! Today was the day, i still was waiting for this reaction, i was sure you will do it because you like both singers, i really enjoy this reaction! I like this song, this 2 voices blend so well together like they where made to sing together. You can see this 2 women like each other, they are friends since many years. In the last 1 1/2 year i hear many songs and see many live performances from EPICA and i fell in love with this band. My absolute favorite is Nightwish but than comes Epica! They have many great songs, i hope we see some more Epica reactions of you. Bye!

Two best friends and two angels...YES!!! I always say I may never make it to those Pearl Gates but at least I can say I have heard what angels sound like, just divine!!!!! BTW Simone was pregnant at the time of this concert so props to her for lasting 2+ hours in this 10 year anniversary celebration.

@@okiejohn3925 I saw somebody with experience in the feild on another reaction say that there was minimum 6 guys working the stage.
@@paulriddle7818 - Likely that Epica lost money on that show with the cost of production (maybe they made up for it with DVD sales?) but they created an epic(a) piece of history!
You totally have to react to the other Floor collab in that very same show: Stabat Mater Dolorosa.
After that you can check out anything else from this Retrospect show, it was really a once in a lifetime concert

They are longtime good friends, and it can be seen well here.
Simone is a little restrained in her headbanging, as she is just short of starting to show her pregnancy.
There is a point in the song that I find reminiscent of The Flower Duet from Léo Delibes' Lakmé, in the way Floor and Simone's voices intertwine.
At the same event, they sang the Pergolesi setting of Stabat Mater, which was awesome, and which I'm sure you'll enjoy.
Simone takes the Soprano part and Floor, although she is also a soprano, takes the Alto - a great credit to her range!
It is amazing how the audience, metalheads all, were totally silent and absorbed and drowning in the performance.
I hope you record your reaction to that, as I'd love to be able to share in it. I can never experience it for the first time again, but I can recapture a little of the feeling, seeing it in others.
It's hard to imagine how long ago this was! It was like 2012-2013 - something like that.

Epica is a great band....you should check out Cry for the Moon if you like a backing of an orchestra as well as choir backup vocals 😄 Also there is a great duet that Within Temptation (Sharon Den Adel) has with Anneke van Giersbergen the former lead singer of the band The Gathering called Somewhere off of the Black Symphony DVD.
She did Cry for the moon 2 months ago.

I believe I read Simone and Floor used to be roommates. They are BFFs for sure.
I'd say their combo was "fire," but that's not quite accurate. It's more like a flamethrower. Or perhaps an atomic bomb. On a side note, I'm told there were probably no fewer than four sound guys working the show to get everything sounding the way it's supposed to.
Easily - four isn't uncommon for a larger rock band, so to mic up, balance and mix individually mic'ed full choir, orchestra, and rock band would be nearer 200 than 100 channels (possibly more) and would need combining into sets (like soprano, alto, tenors baritones and basses in the choral group), then those sets balanced into full groups (choir, orchestra, band, lead vocals) for the final mixing stage. I did it for a while on a much smaller scale (we thought having 16 channels was a really great arrangement and were more used to 8), and I'd expect it to be an all-day job for the evening show. So soundcheck would start at maybe 9am and be busy all day and into the evening.
The result was well worth it though.
I'd have given a leg or one of any organ I have a spare of to have been in either orchestra or choir for that - I have done both (violinist and bass chorister) to a decent standard, but never for this kind of show.

Anneke also sang in that concert.
Floor and Simone have been friends for years, and were roommates for awhile. Can you imagine being their next door neighbor? Me either!!
