What a great city tour of Clarksdale! I only wish you had done this sooner when I was teaching Music Appreciation. I had no idea how important Clarksdale was to the blues, and certainly no idea that Bessie Smith, a classical blues singer (not Delta blues) died in Clarksdale! Wonderful commentary and appropriate music tracks!
Yes. Bessie Smith came to a pretty horrible end. You can read about it in her Wikipedia entry. There are some interesting parallels to the death of Jayne Mansfield 30 years later.
I was hoping Robert Johnson’s original recordings were public domain now, considering he’s been deceased for almost 100 years. But apparently his family holds the rights to the music, as well as his likeness. Only 3 pictures exist and copyright violations are aggressively pursued by the family so I didn’t even dare put up his picture.
I just recently subscribed to your channel and I like it. Any chance you're going to do all of highway 161, which would include my hometown of Mound Bayou
Unfortunately, we were unable to cover all of the sections of 161 due to time constraints. But at some point, we’d like to go back and cover all of the old sections of US 61. I just don’t know when we’ll have time to do it.
I love some Sam Cooke! " Another Saturday night " and " Bring it home to me " are my favorite.

Thank you like I always say there's only one Mississippi and they got the musicians to prove it 🎙️🎸🎶🇺🇸
That was a cool ride! Thanks!
That is unfortunate that the main line of US 61 doesn't run through the town anymore. Looks like a nice town.
Thanks Jason for sharing. I like the music beds as they fit in with the Blues theme of te video.
