The indication here is that the Dutch athlete made the first mistake, but if you watch closely the British athlete tried to squeeze between two athletes knowing there wasn't a clear path, but that doesn't negate the Dutch athlete's obvious retaliation.
Looks like there was some pushing from the British athlete too, but you're absolutely right.
Should have been better relay so we could analyze it.

4:51 - Brit slams into the Dutch turning him sideways, Dutch pushed back but because of his size pushes the Brit into the Swiss taking them out with the Italian taking evasive maneuver.
Pity he did that after running a great lap.
Yeah that is what I was thinking. Overtaking nearly everybody but then ruins everything by pushing them.

The British guy tried to elbow his way through when he didn't have enough space, and the Dutch guy shoved him in response. The shove was a complete over-reaction but the British guy made contact first. I think the British guy (and thus his whole team) should have been officially disqualified (just to have it on record) and the Dutch guy should have suspended for a year, to send a message.
Where the hell is polish team ?! Even Turkey is there.

Final lap drama what a joke the shove was on the 3rd leg dummy
There was considerable drama in the final lap due to the fact that the Dutch anchor dueled with and passed the leader. In fact, with the looming possibility of a disqualification this finish was even more dramatic.

Well 20 years is too hard, u didnt saw what happened before. But what I saw on video he should get an atletics ban for at least 6 months, and yes im actually dutch. What he did over there was way across the line, he didnt even got back to him for checking he's okay. He should read the book 'fair play' first before flying back to holland.

If you watch the preceding 20 seconds at slow speed, you can see that the British athlete was unsportsmanlike himself, elbowing and shouldering the Dutch athlete, he was just a lot more mild and discrete. When you're stuck on the inside, it's called being "boxed in" and you're not allowed to elbow your way out.

That shover should be disqualified and fined for disrupting the race and putting his fellow athletes in danger. Such a negative person. So aggressive.
