This is a standout track. My favorite rappers from the early days are Rakim, Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, Kool Keith, NWA and EPMD. I've followed EPMD and both Erick and Parrish's solo albums throughout their career, and I can honestly say that this is Erick's most personal record. I don't think he ever did a song like this, and I'm really glad that he did, because its beautiful and it shows that he has a greater range beyond the classic hip-hop braggadocio style that he and Parrish mastered. I hope that he can continue to express himself like this because it adds an extra dimension to his work. Its very powerful to hear the authenticity of the lyrics, and the beat furthers it perfectly.
I know that Erick had the courage recently to make some of his other personal struggles public. If he finds it cathartic to write about what he went through, he could share his wisdom and his story to help others going through the same thing, that would be another powerful song/album as well.
