Hey folks - I've just dropped a few more vintage/retro style logo tutorials for Photoshop - go and check them out in my videos section! They look awesome!
if you select the object you are trying to center and the background at the same time. At the top, there are buttons that center it for you! great tutorial!
I searched for this tutorial, very helpfull and clear to understand (not to fast like some other tutorials on YT). Thank you and kind regards from The Netherlands!
Great tutorial and straight forward... Please, I don't know what is wrong, after making selection on my rectangle and I clicked on the ellipse, my ellipse is not selected. Thereby, cut is not visible for me to use... Help!!
Thanks for posting this. I followed your steps and was very pleased with the result, and I learned a few new tricks. The graphics designer who told you nothing is black is correct. True black is no color at all, hence RGB 0,0,0 or #000000. I've been using #090909 for black backgrounds for years. The only thing I use true black with is printable versions. The logo I made here was an army green background (#002200) with smoke white text (#F2F2F2). I think it adds to that vintage feel. The steps I tried to skip were rasterizing the circles and cutting them to break them up. If you make the background color of the rectangle the same as the background color of the image, it hides them anyway. That worked until I went to make a version of the logo with a transparent background. Then I had to go back and do it right. Now I'm glad you included those steps.
I don’t understand how to make the upside down text flip? I used the ‘Path Selection Tool’ but all it did was center the word and delete some of the letters. Are we supposed to hold down a key while using the tool?
hey master i just wanna say a BIG thank you for sharing please the crtl key and selecting the little rectangle mine is not showing please is there any other way that can be done i mean the marching ants is not showing thanks
Great tutorial, I know it sounds silly but presumably if I want to use it on photos etc I turn off the black background merge the layers together and save as a PNG?
Great tutorial! My only question I have is I made my logo and now Im trying to export as a PNG so I can print on T's, but when I get rid of the black background it shows the bar in the middle that I used to make my shape. How do I keep the circle shape I created while blending the bar so it doesnt show up when I export as a PNG?
@@GeekTutorials1 Thank you, but that simply does not work on my iMac using the latest PS versions (It used to work just fine, but now ONLY draws from outsude, away from edge of circle no matter what keys are pressed).
Why do i not have all these custom shapes? I have 4 folders, like leaves and boats. And when I click on the little "cog" or whatever you call it, I have a much smaller option box not a long list like you. help?
GREAT TUTORIAL!!! - But can not get the Crown downloads. I followed the link then search, but all the Free are not Free, at least where I looked. At any rate this video is still a great help for my students :) Rob
I tried to do this and create a hi res transparent logo but when I erased the background to do that there was still black in the top and bottom of the center circle
To get rulers up, simply press "Ctrl R" on a Windows machine. "Cmd R" on a Mac. Maybe select a circle and move it with your arrow keys? I hold Shift and move my shapes with the arrow keys to move them in larger increments as well.
how to do this on 11:36 I already click the (ctrl k) does not work theirs no dash line on the rectangle, also it says: "workspace changes will take effect the next time you start Photoshop" plss help me. BTW I'm using Photoshop 2019
Do a Google search for 'free Photoshop brushes' - and include a category in your search to narrow them down. You will be able to download an .abr file. That is the file you need to import to Photoshop.
Also - these guys are my friends. I do some work with them and they have awesome shapes for download. Some free, some for a small price tag. Brilliant stuff! www.heritagetype.com/?ref=geektutorials
11:56 I do not have an option to "cut" it is not bold as yours is......... also i cannot see my words on top of my rectangle unless i lower the opacity on the right side... how can i change that? is it bc i didn't chose black as my background but burgundy??? please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @geek tutorials

Hey mate - sounds like you are on the right track. Make sure you have a transparent background rather than the black. And yes - save it as a PNG file.
@@GeekTutorials1 Got it sorted buddy, made a new logo for my photography thanks ever so much for the tutorial :-)

Great instruct -= Thanks! BUT HOW can I draw the circle from the CENTER rather than from the outside???? There MUST be a shortcut key.
From memory, hold Alt and then draw your shape.

Do a Google search for "Photoshop Shapes Free" and you can actually download more shapes to Photoshop.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍amazing tutorial
Amazing tutorial! However I tried going back to change the color of the circles and it won't let me. Any ideas?
Try double clicking on each of the circle layers and add a colour overlay effect.
@@GeekTutorials1 OMG it worked. Thank you so much! I'm a complete noob when it comes to photoshop. You have my sub good sir :)

How do I get the custom one instead of default? Is it a certain template to download?
Is that the shapes you're talking about?
I tried to do this and create a hi res transparent logo but when I erased the background to do that there was still black in the top and bottom of the center circle
Maybe start with a transparent background and go from there
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH, KEEP IT UP
Thank you very helpful tutorial and easy to understand for beginners.
how did you get the ruler on your the top of your screen and how are you able to move your circle because when i try to it will not allow me to do so?
To get rulers up, simply press "Ctrl R" on a Windows machine. "Cmd R" on a Mac.
Maybe select a circle and move it with your arrow keys? I hold Shift and move my shapes with the arrow keys to move them in larger increments as well.

Simple yet great logo
top tutorial
Ummm how do I get the rectangle to cut on a Mac my control P doesn’t do anything but bring up the menu
Real Rare try Command and then double click on the rectangle
it's better to create a mask than to cut. That way if you don't like it, it's easier to fix. Cutting is destructive editing.
Thank you for making this, it was really helpfull! :)
I love this movie.
Thank you!
THANK U SO MUCH BRO . U TAUGHT TOO MUCH
cant type on bottom of circle
Thanks )
The Crown Shape download link is dead.
Apologises. Any crown shape will still work.
HOW DO YOU MAKE THAT LETTER SOUTHSIDE WIDE SPACING? I CANNOT DO
Adjust the 'tracking' in your font properties panel. A quick Google search will show you where that button is.
when im trying to cut 12:29 it says that the layer is not editable
Maybe right-click on the layer and Rasterize it?
love your video but i can't download the shapes any suggestions?
Judy download another set of shapes and use a slightly different shape. Or use a free crown vector. Heaps online to download
great video! thanks
The video was really helpful

I mean what photoshop version did he used?
CC 2018
So for some reason i cant cut out the circle bits at the side? anyone got any ideas?
Edit: Trying to make this logo for my football tipping service.
Make sure you have the correct layer selected.
got it working, just had to select 1 layer or circle not both layers.
cant find custom shape tool
Hold your mouse down on the Rectangle tool in your toolbox. It will be hiding there.
Why it is thick when i draw circle ?
Your stroke could be set to a high number?
@@GeekTutorials1 I just follow all of what your doing , I draw I rectangle the inner circle changes the color
How much do you charge to make a logo?
Depends how complex. But generally speaking, one like this is $50AUD
How do you get the pink guides? I don't know how to automatically get those guides
In your View menu, turn on your Smart Guides
@@GeekTutorials1 Does not work
@@NabeelAhmad-yv3ro What isn't working for you? Smart Guides or the logo?
@@GeekTutorials1 Those pinks guidelines won't show up i even turned on Smart Guide
@@NabeelAhmad-yv3ro Have a look at the Adobe help page to diagnose the issue. helpx.adobe.com/au/photoshop/how-to/align-space-objects.html
how to turn on the purple line when you move objects?
These are you "Smart Guides." Go to your View menu to turn them on.
