Its funny the sounds and things stored in ones brain. This was my grandmother washer down to every detail , that licking sound cam back to me immediately and I am 69. Use watch her wash back in the 1950s as a kid the agitator rips kinda of rounded toward the bottom if I recall. Funny it was nostalgic and even somewhat comforting to see and hear it again . LOL
Nice Machine , as soon as I saw it it brought back memories to me , My Grandmother had one just like it, When you mentioned how quite, as Iwatched this I could recall in the back of my mind that clicking noise, and how it sounded , Its funny how a picture or a sound ir even a smell can trigger a memory,, Very nice !
Very interesting and to think this is nearly 70 years old and it's still working just shows that things were made to last way back then. I would love to visit a museum of any kind that has old electronic machines alike, old TVs and other. WOW.
Have you ever listened to a old tube stereo? They are better than 90% of today's solid state stereos! I collect old electronics and especially tube amps. It doesn't matter how rusty or dirty they look, it's crazy.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and happy to hear it brought back pleasant memories! My earliest memories of my grandmother are, in fact, "helping" her do the laundry at the age of three.
HI I have a 1948 Sears Catalogue showing this machine. $114.95 with gravity drain,$119.95 with pump.$11.50 down with easy terms. THANKS for showing this.
Just finding this video. Very cool. The cost adjusted for inflation is around $1,200. Comparable to what we would pay for a washer today that would be lucky to survive five years.
Hello and sorry for the late reply ... yes, the wringer can be removed. I suppose if you had a separate spin dryer/extractor, you could use that in place of the wringer (if that's what you were thinking.)
Hello...I have another video you might like to watch, of my Maytag wringer washer. Probably it's like the one you speak of ... Maytag Wringer washer August 13, 2011. There is no requirement to oil those motors. For the wringer, there should be a little grease on the wringer post (looks like a pipe when you remove the wringer head from the tub.) It sounds to me like there was an excess amount of oil/grease on the wringer post when your son removed it for transportation.
Is that what is left of a label on the front…If so you might get a new one find an old add in magazine and have a label made…love your machine and what fun you have... too bad more people cant enjoy this lifestyle..
Yours looks better than mine. but mine was only $40. It has a squeak that has me concerned. I had to attach a ground onto mine because it would give me a tickle if I touched it while it 's on.
Hmm...can you figure out from where the squeak is originating? These machines are direct-drive, rather than belt-driven, so it wouldn't be a belt. Is your pump operational?

Yes I remember this one, it is like the one my Mother had in the 1950s.
The war year models had bakelite agitators. They needed the metals for planes.

Can you fill this manually with buckets of water?
Absolutely. That's how a lot of people, especially on the farm, did it.

I made a decal myself using the graphic from the original instruction manual. Video can be seen at ua-cam.com/video/xDSQFzG8FXw/v-deo.html

Is the agitator original or is it new? It looks new
Original agitator - cast aluminum with a bakelite cap.
