  • Which is the Best Diesel Heater for a van or Campervan
    Eberspacher, Webasto, Autoterm or even a Chinese Diesel Heater?
    Winter Vanlife is here and the question is often raised, which is the best diesel heater on the market, which heater should you choose?
    I have a look at the Eberspacher Airtronic S2 D2L, Webasto Air Top 2000 STC including Thermo Connect, Planar / Autoterm 2KW heater and also Chinese Diesel Heaters, such as Triclicks, Vevor, Maxpeedingrods diesel heaters.
    Which should you buy?
    Which heater have I bought?

    Slowly turning it into a stealth camper van / day van with bed. I will also need something for cooking, cooling, sleeping, drinking ?? Choices to be made.
    I have lots more to do though, I have a new electrical system, using Victron components and a Lithium LIFEPO4 battery, so I obviously need to install some power devices. I have a new sound system, with Focal speakers and ibus 2.1 amp, Playstation PS4, which will be removable, TV's on headrests.

    Wall mart has the Hcalory diesel heaters on sale today 3/10/23, for 89.99 for the black one and the white one, I bought both, the black one is nicely made I disassembled it and it has a heat-resistant outer shell made of durable plastic the aluminum was poured and was quality built, the inner burner tube was made of stainless steel very nice, lots of heat and runs nicely. the white one has an aluminum outer shell that is made perfectly the heater is 95% the same the only difference is the burner tube is steel not stainless and works the same with a lot of heat.

    My conversion company recommended my Chinese heater. They have been fitting them for 4 years and not one complaint.
    All in £525, half of which was fitting, I have only had it for 4 months, so I can not comment on reliability.
    So far so good though.

    Good review thank you. Quick question - If one was to install a diesel heater in one’s motorhome, would it normally be installed in such a manner that it will drive its heat through the existing heat duct system around the vehicle? The reason I ask is that our Hymer’s existing duct system directs heat also into the double floor to the water tanks etc for the purpose of winter living and prevent water from freezing etc. I would imagine that one would lose that crucial benefit, if the diesel heater wasn’t using the existing duct layout?

    • @StaycationLifestyle
      @StaycationLifestyle  Рік тому

      Diesel heaters generally use their own ducting system separate from the existing ducting. The air flow of the diesel heater will likely be far lower than the Motorhomes standard system and likely not enough to supply the whole system. There could also be potential safety issue with backflow. Personally I would keep the 2 separate

    I just finished installing and running a webasto 2000stc in my full time 28ft trailer,,works great, outlet heat from duct around 240 deg,

    The best option and value is Lavaner, but virtually no one has heard of them. They are top quality Chinese manufacture using world sourced parts, and they have an "Alpine" version that auto corrects for elevation (Barometric pressure).

    • @StaycationLifestyle
      @StaycationLifestyle  Рік тому

      The Alpine is 5kw and too big for a small van

    • @davids.4760
      @davids.4760 Рік тому +1

      @@StaycationLifestyle Lavaner makes a 2KW model, but it is not altitude adjusting. Having said that, I initially believed that 5KW would overheat my camper too. Mine is a truck camper with about 200 Cu Ft of interior volume. That is much less than a typical van. My experience has been that the 5KW is perfect. In warmer weather it simply runs very low and quiet. In very cold weather (and I do travel in very cold weather), having the 5KW allows the camper tp stay warm without overworking the heater. Again, just my experience. Two examples of the quality of the Lavaner are: #1: the ECU is completely epoxy encapsulated. There is no open circuitry like you find in typical CDH. #2: The glow plugs used in the heater are Japanese, made by Kyocera, not Chinese. The bearings in the fan appear to be better too. Lots of upgraded parts. Even the housing components are more robust. The Alpine version costs in the $500 range the last time I looked. Anyway, I have no ties to Lavaner. I just like their products, and thought I would mention it. I wish they had a better distribution in the US. Their Canadian distributer is really good, but the US distributer kind of sucks. It's better to contact the Chinese rep directly. Sorry to interrupt the conversation.

    I've run these for years and the problem is people buy heater that's to big for there van and then run very low temperature and they coke up , buy 2kw and run them flat out often and they decoke themselves no issues even eberspacher have problems eberspacher are having heaters built-in China do the matches you can run china heater for 4/5 yes no problems. It cost you £140 for a service on eberspacher make's no sense these big companies charge what they do. I welcome the Chinese doing the knock off heater for £80 a time big companies will realize that aren't putting up with them taking the piss 😡 I could rant all day short story is I've had no issues at all 😅 make sure it's the nylon pipe not the crappy stuff they send 4mm o/side diameter 1.5/2 inside diameter be fine 🙂

  • @AJ-qn6gd
    @AJ-qn6gd 8 місяців тому

    Don’t fit a Chinese diesel heater under your van as the electrics are not sealed, should be ok inside the van. Some of the fitting kits supplied can be very cheaply made especially the fuel pipe and exhaust pipe is only single skinned so get very hot, a potential problem if camping in log dry grass, mufflers tend not to be seem welded so leak gasses. If I were fitting a Chinese heater I’d seriously think about buying better fittings.
    Will look for your fitting video 👍🏻. I bit the (expensive) bullet and had an Eberspacher professionally fitted in our T5 which has performed great for just over a year now, no regrets.

      Any diesel engine , even a small heater , needs to run hot to work efficiently.
      A diesel car/van wouldn't run efficiently if constantly used for short trips .
      A 5 kw heater of any kind will easily heat a large 3 bedroom home . It's miles too big for a small space , car/van etc & would have to be turned right down which quickly clogs them up .

    You seem to be ignoring the moral dimension of deciding which heater to purchase.
    Planar production may have been relocated, but the profits still flow in to Russia - that's the pariah state currently committing war crimes in Crimea. As for the Chinese knock-offs - all those "brands" benefit from IP theft from western companies that have invested in R&D, design and marketing.
    EDIT: Sorry, that should read Ukraine, not Crimea.
