"Mr Main Event got you swimming in the shallow end of the talent pool." Is a shot at Cassper Nyovest. Cause he'd just filled up South Africa's largest concert arena.
They first collaborated on a song called The Saga by Anatii. AKA references the song his contribution to the subsequent success of "The Saga" on Composure in the line "I'm the reason niggas had The Saga on repeat/ now you wanna charge me 80 thousand for a beat". To give a bit of context to the time period, Anatii had already established himself and a prolific producer and contributed as an artist and producer to quite a few hit songs in SA however he hadn't necessarily blown up as a soloist himself so AKA may have seen his appearance on Anatii's single as a good look for the "homie. Later when AKA wanted to get a beat from Anatii (i assume) he was expecting a "fair" price because of AKA's contribution to the success of The Saga. This caused a falling out between the 2, until they met in LA during the 2016 or 2017 BET Awards where they squashed their beef and eventually recorded a full project together called "Don't Forget To Pray".
Cassper got 24 awards from his debut album only and he was only 24 by then😁AKA got awards but I think Cass has more especially coz he(AKA) hasn't released an album as an artist since 2014 except for BCWYWF which was a duo with Anatii.Cassper cleaned out last year at the South African hip hop awards bagging 5 awards in one night. AKA has been dominating radio with singles and he is a talented man who's been consistent.I'm not saying AKA isn't scooping awards all I'm saying is Cassper might be scooping more coz he's taking advantage of all the things AKA is not doing.

Also the dynamic between Casper and AKA is quite an interesting one. The reason why AKA is so highly regarded (besides his clear talent for making hits) is because he's been in "the game" for years. His first big single as a soloist called Victory Lap dropped in 2011 (if i'm not mistake) in a time when english speaking rappers were far and few between...in fact i could say he was the only one at that level and he has survived all these years navigating the slow and arduous growth of hip hop in SA and this feat alone put him at the top of the food chain as far as hip hop goes in SA. The problem during these years however in that the corporate world in SA hadn't seen hip hop or any of their stars as bankable so there wasn't as much money in "the game" as there is today...enter Casper Nyovest who at the time hadn't broken into the industry at all but was known (mostly because he was the protege of rapper HHP, who was the biggest rapper in the country at the time). In 2013 Casper dropped his first of many big hits, Gusheshe (which is SA slang for the BMW 325i ) off his debut album. This would catapult him into the mainstream and his follow up single Doc Shebeleza (the name of a kwaito star from the 90's) would cement him as a big fucken deal. This is when, i think, things started to get shaky between the 2. Casper would become the first artist to really put hip hop in SA on the big stage in all arenas. He would be the first hip hop artist (that we know of) to score million Rand deals, the first to go gold in a matter of months and the first the go platinum EVER. He ushered SA hip hop into a new big money era and i think this may have fucked with AKA a bit. AKA was the king and had been so for years so his ego was HUGE but here was this guy who had been around but never been a threat to his position now becoming the most successful (according to the numbers) rapper SA has seen thus far. It seemed like an inevitable clash of 2 huge personalities with 2 huge egos. I can't definitively say i understand all the mechanics of their relationship or their beef but i think their history is a good indication of why they began to have a disdain for one another.

Yeah I get why you say he sound commercialised. He really does on the real. But he's still the baddest in S.A. personally, on the S.A. hip hop scene. AKA and Anatii gel very well together. Every song they do together is very well organised and collected.
They squashed the beef and did a joint EP Afterwards. This is one of the songs in the EP

So dude the thing is that aka was popping before Cassper and when Cassper came in was like a threat to aka's throne. So yeah bro I'm not sure what started the beef but it's just about who's the best. So far it seems to me that Cassper is winning cause he sells more music and his concerts are lit and filled up. However I like aka's music to me it's more viby and It can lighten up my mood better. And of course I like it cause he was here before Cassper and I found Cassper annoying and seeking attention at first with his pony tail but now I fux with his music, he has found his identity. So yeah

I don't think the Cassper and AKA beef is still going.. it's really just the fan base still talking about these things.
