I’m frequently mistaken for a Geordie - I’m from Middlesbrough - which was in Yorkshire at the time of my birth - since moving down to Somerset, people meeting me for the first time think that I’m a Geordie - even when I tell them that I’m not! “You come from Middlesbrough? Then you’re a Geordie!”. We’re actually Smoggies!

I remember spending the whole Sunday afternoon at and inside St James's two days after Sir Bobby died. I stood in the queue with two Spanish lads who had flown over from Barcelona, both were wearing Barcelona shirts with Sir Bobby on them, they also had flowers. In that queue there were Mackems with their Sunderland shirts on, Boro fans the same and the number of other different strips on display clearly showed just how much Bobby was loved by the footballing world and how far ordinary people were prepared to travel to pay their respects. The whole of the Leazes end eventually was covered in flowers, shirts and messages of love for one of our own but also from football fans all over the world. Anyone who understands football in the North East will know about our rivalry with the Makems yet on that day we stood shoulder to shoulder in our appreciation for man who could transcend our differences. 11 yrs leter its bringing a lump to my throat just typing this. #ripsirbobby #theresonlyonebobbyrobsononebobbyrobson
I have a daughter who is an Insurance Broker in London and she was a great friend of the son of Bobby Robson. At every home game in the capital she used to receive Match tickets to Newcastle matches. She was always treated like royalty.

I'm glad Bobbys' fellow Geordies know how loved he is, and was, all across the world, but especially at home in England. We are Bradford City fans, and we idolise Bobby Robson. A true, TRUE legend of England. A man we all admired and loved. As you say, one of your own. As a football fan, it's incredibly special when you get the chance to say "he's one of our own" about a man or a player who is deeply loved.
Whilst working as a match day Paramedic at B’ham City, I met Sir Bobby, now I do not generally hero worship many in football but it was an honour to speak with such a great man. He was happy to chew the fat and he laughed at my pain having to work at B’ham being a staunch Villa fan. He was happy to write and sign a short note to my young son (now in his 30s!) he still has it to this day. He was a man of the people, honest, genuine, a true Englishman and a proud Geordie.
As a Liverpool fan I have to agree with the Geordie lads in that Bobby Robson was universally loved and respected and a true gentleman of the game. The game of football is poorer for his passing and he will always be remembered. RIP Sir Bobby.

Nice tribute song for Sir Bobby Robson and his Foundation. When Bobby died, it was like losing me Granda all over again. I had a little bubble at the end of the song too. I'm a Geordie who grew up doon sooth and watching Auf Weidersehen Pet always reminded me of home. I never get sick of watching it to this day. I was saddened to hear that as well as Bomber and Wayne, Herr Grunwald, Arthur Pringle and Kenny Ames have also passed on. God Bless you Sir Bobby and Auf Weidersehen Pet to all.

Anyway, we didnt claim Bobby, he may have been born outside of whatever the grey boundary lines are but he worshiped at the same Geordie church as the rest of us from childhood.
