Ferrari 812 Competizione review | 819bhp, £450,000 limited edition track tested | Autocar

- The Ferrari 812 Competizione is one of Ferrari's special edition variants of its big V12 super GT car. The regular 812 Superfast is, well, super and fast, but this adds 30bhp and a whole raft of equipment to make it even more special.
The big 6.5-litre V12 revs more highly, for a start - to 9500rpm. It brings spectacular performance - 0-62mph in 2.9sec and a top speed of 211mph (more technical data below). That engine needs more cooling so more cooling it gets, via a bigger grille at the front and bigger vents including those around the strap that runs across the bonnet.
Behind the cabin there is an opaque deck with vortex-inducing carbon fibre fins to make the most of the rear spoiler that runs the entire width of the car, while the exhausts now run straight through to the very edges of the car too which gives more under-body room for a massive diffuser.
The Competizione wears massive front tyres and the suspension has been tweaked to compensate for its dizzying agility, including the latest-generation of Ferrari's active rear steer system, which can allow the rear tyres to toe-in under braking, enhancing stability.
Only 999 examples of the 812 Competizione coupe will be produced - with 599 convertible Apertas following later. Join Autocar's Matt Prior as he tests the car at Ferrari's Fiorano test track.

There is simply nothing like an Italian V12
its the last Hurrah Enzo would be proud
Aston V12? BMW V12? AMG V12? Cosworth V12?
A V12 is a V12
@@addj7093 😑
@@addj7093 Drive a Ferrari V12 and see if you still have that same opinion. Aston V12's are somewhat lazy in comparison to Ferrari V12's. 820hp from a naturally aspirated 6.5L V12 is insane.
@@addj7093 Aston v12s are two mondeo engines welded together 😂
Matt manages to combine useful information with a sense of how this car drives in the hands of an experienced (and fortunate) normal person. Stuff like the cold weather and wear characteristics of the Cup 2R tyres is the kind of thing people talk about in a track day paddock.
Front engined V12 Ferraris are simply in other league. Thanks Matt!!!
The F12 Berlinetta is absolutely spectacular in its design and performance and it’s one of my favorite Ferraris ever. The 812 Superfast was already an amazing successor to it and now this 812 Competizione is just the pinnacle of it all, with improved aero and more powerful engine. With all the hybrid / electric models that are coming out, it’s cool to still have a naturally aspirated V12 by Ferrari. Though I fear it could be one of the last cars to feature such a beautiful engine, for us petrolheads to enjoy.
If I were in a position to get a Ferrari, it would have to be a front-engined naturally aspirated V-12, of which this is the ultimate. Love it. Mr Prior, you are a lucky lucky lucky man
this is NA? the fisrt NA again after 458?
The car with the best traction to take off best is still a Porsche 911 turbo (of cars with comparable performance), and that one has the engine in the rear, and so putting weight on the back wheels & perfect traction for launch.. Therefore that car does a quicker quarter mile than this Ferrari even, well it's very close but this car is 3x as expensive & limited, no passenger seats in the back & this car has 820hp compared to 650hp for the porsche lol.
Love the Troy McClure intro. And the 812 Competizione!
Matt's giggle when he revs up is the explanation how good that V12 is. Great video Sir
thank god matt did this one. thanks for the upload. made my day!
What a piece of automotive art! Thank you for the video.
Got to love another one of Matt's chilled reviews. As much as I enjoy other reviewers, ex-racing drivers or whatever, just holding the camera and pointing it at this beautiful machine while Matt explains away is what you don't get with other reviewers. Just gives us time to take in all the beautiful angles. Cheers matey
Thank you Matt for this beautiful video and amazing sound... V12 NA are music to the ears ❤️..
Probably the last pure V12 Ferrari.
Grazie V12.
That sharky greyish silver with yellow stripe... 😍😍😍 What a SPEC.... 👌👌👌
Fantastic job on this Matt!
I really don't understand why in every car review, the camera spends 90% of the time staring at the driver. Put the damn cockpit view on for more than 2 seconds. I don't care what the driver looks like.
journalism ego.
He needs to be seen as the one driving
Nice Video man, love the 812 Competizione.
Those gear changes were so sharp I could feel them through my screen
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. One of the best Supercars on sale
Good video.Well done for choosing that car.
Another great Ferrari video from Autocar
Very cool video and both cars have badass specs!
They really stepped it up with this one . Beautiful
Fantastic review, you lucky bastard, what a car. Great video, very very enjoyable.
Thank you to Ferrari for keeping the NA V12 dream alive even now... in 2021... bravo!
i love the back end of this thing so much
Gorgeous!
Troy what?
Great video btw! Cheers!
I gotta say: the 812 Competizione is, IMHO, a pinnacle car for me. Nothing beats a V12 N/A engine for truly epic sounds, and Ferrari's rendition is THE best. Ciao!
Definite lottery win this car - absolutely gorgeous and a big italian V12 is something to treasure, even if you never will be able to use all that power!
Why would you not be able to use it?
I love the matt from 9 minutes
9:01 I honestly don't think I have seen a transmission that has changed gear so quickly. Absolutely unbelievable!
Never heared of Porsche? Even faster
Great video. Great car.
So basically what happened was everyone complained about supercars being too easy to drive, Ferrari said cool, here's the TdF, and everyone cried and said they were just saying that to seem hardcore.
This sounds AMAZING, long live Ferrari V12s! ❤️
Wonderful machine❤️
That snap at 9:48 made me jump let alone Matt. 😂
God Damn, I'd love to Review THAT!
Thanks for the uncomplicated, plain-spoken review of this exciting machine.
Best looking ferrari in decades. Jesus christ. Need Harris to abuse this thing around track.
Harris will never say that a Ferrari is a good car, it's a Porsche fanboy
@@urbsfrancesco you obviously haven't watched many Harris videos.
@@HoratioHoodoo nah he's.porsche through and through he has sense .
@@paulthomson9014 He loves this car.
Looks like a full on facelift to the 812 looks. I like it. Maybe they should facelift the 812 superfast standard car too those rear tail lights are gorgeous.
If in youtube setting you enable comments, it says [music] and [applause] while hearing the sound of this beauty
AHAHAHAHA best intro ever! love Troy Mclure reference 😂
Stunning car
Lovely review. Hell of a car. Something about it looks kind of concept car to me but I love it.
I think it’s the large body panels with consequently fewer panel gap lines running around the car - namely, around the taillights and around the headlights, though I think the headlights’ panel gap is there over the wheel arch, hidden by reflections and shadows a bit.
I’m guessing the standard tires are pirelli’s , and those Michelin’s are optional???
I raced karts when younger & have always had at least one high performance car at home, currently a 991 GT3. I drove a regular 812 two years back & it scared me half to death. Already way way too fast for the road. Lovely car, but honestly you can never use even half that performance, let one of these monsters.
Not sure why it scared you , having driven 812 I found to be a great GT car, very stable, yes fast but very capable car, my 600 LT is far more intimidating tbh 👍
There are things called racetracks. Just because a car is fast for the road doesnt mean it cant be used properly.
TBH on the road you dont need anything more than a 300hp focus RS.
@@Stratocasterhead51 yep agree
@@brentpowell7889 Nice bro that u have that car, how did you become rich if I may ask? :) I'm always looking for tips 😁😁
Epic Ferrari, epic sound.
Fallen out of Ferrari but this is them ATG their superb best again. Car sounds amazing!
Those exhausts are going to keep those rear tires hot.
I think that's the idea.
From the front that strap thingy makes it look like the bonnet’s open.
The red 812 is one of the best looking cars I have ever seen. That includes Pagani’s. What a looker..
Masterpiece
Gorgeous. This is what car fans want. Manufacturers please take note. This is what we fell in love with
Beautiful car
Love the Troy McClure ref.
Ain't no car manufacturer in the world makes a better sounding Naturally Aspirated V12 Engine than *Ferrari* 🙌🏾
I actually prefer the look of the F12 TDF. I know the added aero on this car is all functional but I think it just makes it look a tad overdone.
The TDF is one of the best looking cars in recent years. They did start with the F12 which is better looking than an 812 though!
Nice car! But how does it compare to the F12 TDF? I don’t think this car sounds or looks as good as the TDF but I need to wait until I see and hear it in person to make an judgement. I hope the OPF Filter didn't ruin the music coming from that Ferrari V12 engine.
I like how there’s pirellis on the rendering of the gray and yellow car but there’s Michelin’s on the car that’s being driven
"Since 1895" Damn how old is this guy.
dream car
This with a Novitec exhaust will be nuts.
Thats a very good looking car!
I want drive this for one day 😩
Now that’s a Ferrari!😎
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW ! ! ! ! AWESOME ! ! ! AMAZING ! ! ! ! ! FANTASTIC ! ! ! TOP ! ! ! SUPER ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Best Ferrari out now. None of the electric nonsense. Just pure theatre 🙌🏽🤌🏽🔥
that v12 sound
Fantastic car!!!!
Brilliant thx
Very much enjoyed the hand-held-camera look-around at the start as well
V12 symphony touches my soul
Droooooool what a car
No mention of the 9500 RPM rev range. I thought that was supposed to be the highlight of this car.
Lovely car, love a front engined Ferrari, just don’t think it looks as good as the standard 812, shortening the look of the bonnet wasn’t the best idea imo.
Love love
Nice review.
Very fish eyed with the hand held.
Way better looking than the 812 Superfast. What an engine. What a car..
Fantastic motor and I’m glad he up’ed his game on the review! Nice one sir!
Can't get over 812 compitizione 🔥🔥😈😈😈❤❤👑👑👑👑💜💜
King
It’s actually a good price, especially considering it’s going to go way up after being sold
Is it required for a ferrari owner to attend any ferrari event to buy a limited edition model like 812 competizione
To me the best Ferrari with this Engine is the F12. It's my favourite Ferrari.
The F12 has a slightly different engine. The F12berlinetta and F12tdf use a 6.3L V12, the 812 Superfast and 812 Competizione use a 6.5L V12.
i actually dont like that it doesn’t have a rear window 🙈
What does TDF stands for...Tiff Needell..?? .😄😄
Another tough day in the office Matt! Bet they made you eat tasty pasta too...
Absolutely incredible car to watch being driven let alone driving in real life. Some day!!!
So glad this is happening. When someone says a corvette is now competing with Ferrari’s we can say not even close
Overall YES but when it comes to the 8 cylinders the z06 is DEFINITELY a competitor.....
Fantastic review. I've seen a few videos where Ferrari are chaperoning journalists like this, with a pace car. I wonder if this is because some inexperienced drivers cost Ferrari a few cars?
The independent rear steer sounds like very British humour, but I'm sure it's great. Never warmed to the front design of the F12/812 which would bother me I had a squillion pounds laying around, which I don't.
It is not 20 bhp over the regular car, it's still 30 bhp over the regular car. The 812 has 789 bhp and 800 ps, while this has 830 ps and 819 bhp.
What is the car's weight?
google?
Clearly using the Ferrari b-roll track footage as it's cloudy when Matt was driving 😅
Starting this with a Simpsons reference like that warms my heart.
Wow
F12tdf is still the best in my book. I feel like they’ve overdone this. Also what happened to a good old fashioned rear window?
I think the 599 GTO is the best one of the lot 😄
@@P_M21 it’s an absolute classic, that’s for sure
@@P_M21 yes the last race derived v12
but i think this looks better then the 812 sf
I love both. If I had to choose one, probably would be the F12tdf. But the 812 Competizione is so amazing, definitely better than the 812 Superfast
First thing to change is to put exhausts on!!!
I’ll buy 2
I still think the TDF was the wilder of the two. It also looked more unique and special imo.
tdf is harder to drive... this is more gt car
@@rudranewaz6664depends on how hard you wanna drive it! 99% of people won’t get anywhere near the tdfs limits, therefore it’s a baseless comment.
