Shooting 360-degree or virtual-reality videos might seem complicated, but it's not super difficult. I wanted to create this video because I had hard time finding a lot of good videos explaining the basic process when I was trying to figure out how to do it. I hope this adds to an ever growing list of good videos to watch when you're starting to make spherical videos.
Here is the overview video I shot in 360 degrees so that you can get a feel for how it works: • LEARN to SHOOT in 360 ...

Step 1: Spend $3,000!
@Terry 20 you: ive only 10 dollars
Me:I'VE 5 DOLALRS YOUR RICH
I have 0 bucks :(
I have -1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 dollars :(
Terry 20 I have 21! >:D
@Terry20 lol
So all we need is a $500 stand to hold $2000 worth of GoPro cameras as well as a $500 software :)
Exactly lol.
yeah lol, very expensive
Nope. All you need is $600 and you buy a 360Fly 4K camera.
Hey Chris, I was being sarcastic about the cost. Some channels get free cameras from the companies and sound like it is so easy for others to make 360 videos. I own a dual Kodak SP360 4K now and very happy with them. Software needs a little improvement but works great. i have made some great videos. I don't want to sound like promoting my channel but check them out and let me know what you think. It may even give you an idea what Kodak cameras can do also. I will check yours for 360fly videos!
No the software is $750.
It's 2 years later. What's the cost of this tech now?
Thanks!
1% cheaper
$2999
3 years
Is 4 years ago made :/
Great job! I just got an Insta360 Air and I couldn't figure out how to edit footage off of the camera and how to upload it to UA-cam in 360. This answers pretty much everything. Thanks!
Check this how to upload on youtube

Thank you so much! You very clearly explained how -the mystery that 360 video/VR can be- works. I wish more people knew how to explain things like this!
Thanks. This was exactly what I needed as great starting place to learn 360 Video, editing, etc. Appreciate your effort very much.
Great vid! Lots of info packed into those 18 minutes. No wasted moments or digression. Well done!
Brilliant video, you covered all the important bits. Thanks
Great video! I am actually writing about how we could use this "relatively" new technology to enhance education. Keep doing what you are doing, the Internet thanks you.
Great video. Thanks for being generous and sharing your knowledge and experience. Great teaching style.
How can you not like this video. It's very punctual, nice guy, informative, and inspiring. Makes me want to do it even tho I've never thought of doing it. Just ran across the video randomly on UA-cam.
Nice intro to the world of 360 filming. Thanks for the info and for sharing your experience!
finally I found a video about 360 filming that explains well! thank you for this! :-)
Excellent introduction to what it takes. Thank you.
Well done! My first intro video on this great technique. Clear and easy to follow.
Great video. 5 years ago hope your doing good. Great presentation. 📡👽🇺🇸 I SEE EVERYTHING NOW.
Thanks for the video! It was long but super informative and I'm so eager to create some epic travel vlogs! You have helped me so much! I appreciate your time and effort it took to make this video. I'll check out some more of your videos on your channel.
great video & tons of information well explained. Thanks guys... keep doing the good work ✌🏻
Great summary & tutorial! Thanks!
Thank you. I first saw this technology in 2018 when a National Park Ranger had shot the 360 footage and I watched with a cell phone as a VR experience. It was very cool. The American Battlefield Trust has 360 videos on UA-cam. They are great. I would love to create them, but it is not a cheap hobby. Clear instructions on the video.
Always very complete!! Thanks for all the tips! Someday it will be necessary to use :)
four years later...
Super ahead of your time!! You're absolutely brilliant. Thanks for sharing this with the world
Thank you for your video. very helpful and hopefully, I can put somethings together for my first VR
Fantastic tutorial Rob.
Thanks Rob! I wish all tutorial videos could be this good.
Thank you for this. Making life easier. Fun to watch if you like this sort of thing.
Great intro to the work flow, Buddy! Thank you!
That was very informative. Good information. This gives us a stepping stone as to the things we need. Thanks for sharing. The 360 world is in its infant stage. You have the set up to capitalize on it. Its hard to find a lot of 360 videos and some are to grainy and blurry to appreciate.
Thank you so much!! :) can't wait to actually learn all this stuff better!
I just met the Ricoh Theta and making things with that one. Save up some money and get the gopros!
Thanks again!
this video definitely answered a lot of my questions, thank you
Cool explanation!! Fast paced and complete :D Thanks!
Can you stream 360 degrees videos live on UA-cam?
Thanks man! Great Video!
Cool, perfect, just what I need, Tnx Rob!
Thank you very much for this information! Great for you to share - wanted to learn more about the topic. You explain the process very well.
YOU'RE AWESOME!!!! THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO LEARNING HOW TO DO THIS. MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
god bless u for this video....I have been looking everywhere for something like this
Amazing video!
Thank you
Excellent video. Thank you
with the gopro hero4 how do I turn on the 4:3 mode? my avp wont stich the six vids. it groups all six videos into one small screen when I stich them together..
Thank you so much - much of what you said has happened but the basics you cover are the same.
Thx for creating the informative vid👍 very organized walk-thru!
Thank you for this! really helpful!
Oh...he's rich. That explains why 3000 dollars is "cheap".
Hey buddy thanks for the awesome introduction to 360, is there a way to stream this live? Just curious for a project.
Great vid Rob! I think what will really take off is the stereo 3D 360 videos, once the occulus/glyph/vive become more accessible this type of form of storytelling will add to the functionality of those headsets. Check out the Jaunt VR app, they have some pretty cool stereo 360 videos.
Cheers!
+MrKlay Creative - VFX and Filmmaking - I fully agree! I'm excited to test them out in the VR headsets coming out. They're definitely fun and a novelty on the phone or on the computer, but I'd much rather see it (and share it) how it was intended to be seen...
definitely agree
Great video! A resource I will definitely come back to. Thank you!
awesome work, thank you
Amazing walkthrough, cheers
fantastic tutorial!!! THANK YOU
Thanks! great introduction to 360 video!
Great thank you very much. Made quite clear and makes a lot of sense.
Thanks. Helpful tutorial
Great video! Very useful. Thanks!
Man, As simple as it is...I thought my new Samsung Gear 360 required some mental gymnastics, compared to syncing 6 Go Pro's - I can't even afford to think about that. Keep fighting the good fight and Thanks for the vid!
Excellent explanation well done.
Great vid, thanks for the info!
Hi Rob, great video thank you - we are currently looking at the omni rig from go pro - but I am also very interested in the blue rig you have shown, could you give me details on where i can get my hands on this?
Great video man
Awesome tutorial! Love the old mac keyboard haha. I'm using one now. They just won't die.
Thanks mate, great tutorial!
Hey Rob thanks for the video, been playing around with the Ricoh Theta S, which is wonderful. Just wondering, say you want to show a standard video in a 360 UA-cam, so it shows like a big screen, do you know how best to accomplish that? The purpose would be to edit 360 video together with normal video in the same movie...
thank you man! very informative.
3.30am! Great video, thanks.
Huge thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to make this. You're right there is a void in basic workflow info.
I am curious about adding green screen shot footage and if that can be layered on top of the 360.
And can you mix 360 shot footage with zero degree? In other words, can you take a non-360 video and turn it into a 360?
Any thoughts are appreciated.
That is some nice information. Thank you from the Middle East 👍🏼
great video. thanks man
Great info! Thank you so much!🙏🏽👍🏼 Also thought it let you know your video link is down. Was hoping I could see how it turned out 😅
Well done. It helped me a lot. Many thanks.
Damn. I really wish I had the funds to get into this. Crazy expensive. Great video! Thanks!
very nicely explained and just appropriate for a beginner. it was very useful, thanks a lot
this is great.. thank youuuuuuu
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks a ton man.. Really helpful.. Bless you guys..
Very nice video..Thanks a lot
thanks you so much for excellent video. i want to know about the name of that app you mention to bring the data back
Awesome video...looking forward to an advanced workflow video. Maybe on how to create backgrounds in After Effects in 360, how to place graphics, etc.
Cheers!
Just getting into this with Insta 360 One X3, Zoom H3 VR and Oculus Quest 2 and Final Cut Pro. How do you accommodate moving the camera (like walking) and correlating that to how much you can move while having an Oculus Quest 2 on? Do you have any videos about planning movement other than just standing still and looking around in 360 degrees. The goal is to create a short scripted story with the ability of moving around a bit. Is it as simple as figuring out how much space you want the user to be able to move in any direction with the headset on and making sure you use those same measurements when filming; like pretending that you have the virtual guardian when actually filming?
Hi Rob and Jonas! Thanks so much for this video! Your tips are perfect for a amateurs like me! I have a question, can I stich a video with just 3 gopros? I couldn't get 6 so I just recorded videos with 3 but I got good shots from front that was what I wanted to record.
I would appreciate your reply.
Greetings from Colombia.
Luis
Just about to dabble in a 360 video rig but wanted to see if anyone knew whether the Ricoh Theta V (or any other off the shelf option) would work as well as the GoPro option?
thanks for ur detailed explain^^
can you edit that file into a software like after effects. I would love to see 360 motion tracking
this is super cool :D
What about for the video?
Like for example the lego Movie 2 music video 360? How
Great intro! using it in my class!
Thank you for this tut!
That rig surely is under the 3d printing project
Excelente tutorial!!!
Top video liked and subscribed ;)
I wonder if we could just warp the video with adobe software and upload it ... Gonna try that
I noticed on the 360 4K video, the play back is choppy/ strobe like effect. Can this be fixed or is that the max quality? Thx
Thanks SFT
nice example, using in my class!
Hi. How are you. I have a question for you. I dont have alot money. Im thinking about gopro4. You think it work on 4? Or i need a newest gopro version. Also the app you used to edit video. It is work for the 4th generation?
Well you did it watch new arcs are coming soon
Hi, How do you add control button on the screen and upload to UA-cam, thanks
Is it possible to combine standard video and VR video in one video file? Like a modern version of "put on your 3D glasses now"?
good stuff keep it up
You are awesome ! Could you also please do a new video with some 3d audio added to it...they have those special microphones for that nowadays
Hi I have a question, what if we don't want to see the person holding the GoPros, is that possible to do without being in the frame ? Thanks
