The Erik S. Kristensen Memorial Lecture by Roger Carstens 2024

The annual Erik S. Kristensen Memorial Lecture, Wednesday, April 3rd in the Great Hall. This lecture series is jointly sponsored by the U.S. Naval Academy and St. John’s College with funding from the Navy Seals Foundation. Lieutenant Commander Kristensen was a graduate of the Academy and our GI (AGI00). While serving as a Navy Seal he was killed on a search and rescue mission in Afghanistan in 2005.
This year, our speaker is Ambassador Roger Carstens, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs, himself a GI graduate (AGI17). His lecture is entitled “Reclaiming Our Intuition: The Poetic Conduct of War and Diplomacy in the Age of AI.” Ambassador Carstens recently said at an alumni event that the Great Books he read in the program inform his work today. I suspect his lecture will be engaging and timely.
